It's also amazing how when Comegy was JSU's coach, you'd hear every fat joke and dumb coaching joke in the book, but all of a sudden he's been transformed into the greatest coach in the SWAC and folks can't find a negative thing to say about the man.
Now THAT'S quite telling.

JSU alumni didn't know who james b*ll was but our AD was his close friend. THAT'S who hired Comegy. We just stood behind the man because he was the new coach and we ignored his 0-9 high school coaching record.
To be frank, neither Hughes nor b*ll were coaches to write home about, however Hughes was better at allowing his assistants to do their job whereas james b*ll wanted to control everything.
Don't forget this though....james b*ll never lost to Valley, neither did Hughes.

Firing Huges was not a mistake. Hiring **** was a mistake. Comegy was begging us to hire him in 2003. That was before APR so ya'll need to be happy we didn't hire Comegy then. Ya'll could not even beat ****. Imagine Comegy with Kent and company! ooooh weeeeeeee.

Nope.. we STILL thought that we had the best team in the conference but it was mainly because we knew the rest of ya'll were so bad. Not the change the subject but we keep trying to tell SU how bad they were last year but they won't listen. Our people had the good sense to see that even tho we won the EAST, the team was not good.

I don't see anyone acting like he is the greatest coach, but people do respect him as a winner. As much as my G-Men used to pimp Comegy, we respected him as man who knew how turn losing programs into winning programs.


What he is doing at Valley is quite impressive as far as recruiting. Yes, we knew he could recruit, but most were skeptical about his ability to recruit high profile players to Valley. His very first commit turned down a Big Ten school to go to Itta Bena! That was a great statement for Comegy anyway you slice it. JSU folks who I know personally even gave him props on that. No reason to hate, just respect it.

No JSU fan will ever question Comegy's recruiting skills. Dude can flat foot get them. But like we are doing now, Tuskegee and FAMU folk tried to tell us every chance they got. Comegy learned under Billy Joe. Load up on the best talent, and if who you're playing with fails, find a better player. Totally dependent on talent. A guy like Karl Morgan showed he could look at film and put a plan together to give you fits. That's coaching. He just didn't have enough talent. So if Comegy could coach as well as he recruits, he'd be a beast. You can beat less talented teams like that, but when talent is equal or better, coach gotta be able to make a difference.

Jackson State had talented players on the roster when Comegy arrived. Hell, I remember JSU losing plenty of nail bitters during the Bell era due to horrible coaching. You can't be a bad coach when you turn programs around. Comegy has proved he knows how to win games.

I was on the roster when Comegy first arrived and I can tell you the cupboard was bare. We had a 5'9 wideout who ran a 5.2 running 1st team wideout.

It's not hard to turn a winning program around in the SWAC. As soon as b*ll left, JSU began winning again. This just shows one how bad of a coach james b*ll was.
JSU has always attracted talent. It's just a matter of quality coaching that has kept us from becoming the powerhouse SWAC title winners we should be on a consistent basis. Comegy got us closer, just not close enough. He underachieved with the amount of talent he had.

I agree that Jackson has always attracted talent. Even the 2003 team that went 2-10 was a rough group to deal with. In fact, JSU was one or two plays away from winning 6 or 7 games that season. Powerhouse is wishful thinking. JSU always had and always will have talent, but not to the point of pure dominance. That Louisiana agility, Arkansas technique and Texas strength will always haunt JSU's depth chart. I don't care who the coach is.

Even with a 1-3 record in the title game, Comegy gave JSU a much needed nose job. Now, I expect him to give Valley a face lift.


What is getting on JSU fans nerves is the fact that it seems that many people are acting brand new about Comegy landing solid recruits. Ya'll need to understand that for people like me, it's a total different situation. We all knew he would be able to find some talent for Valley, but we didn't expect him to get the type of kids he is getting right now to commit to Valley in year one. The reason is due to the challenges to get a kid to even consider going to Itta Bena for 4 years.

O'Neil, Lyda, Hale, James, Chatman, Young and that JUCO star lineman from California are solid recruits that we all aren't used to seeing commit to Valley. You have to give Comegy mad props for that.

Tuskegee is no pleasure island either, yet he got talent to go there on a consistent basis, so getting them to come to Itta Bena isn't really that much of a surprise, especially if he promises them a starting job. Comegy only wants to GET them there, but when he does what will he do with them? Heck, they may not even start.
Comegy's a smooth operator when it comes to getting players on campus but doing something completely different than promised once they get there.
 
Negro please, that's any coach. I guarantee you this if he tells any of the kids he is recruiting they can start, he ain't lying. Like I said before, we will have a lot of freshmen starting/playing significant snaps this year. That baptism of fire will pay off in the long run like it did for Morgan.

Yeah right.. You hating now. JSU lost 20 games under Comegy by a TD or less. That would have taken Comegy's record at JSU from approximately 55-35 to approximately 75-15. That type of record is an instant powerhouse but the fact that we lost so many close games is a reflection of Comegy's inability to really coach.

You are correct. We had the best program in the conference but it was not good enough for the Mighty JSU.

We were #1 in the EAST 6 or 8 years, 4 SCG appearances, 1 SCG title. What program in the SWAC did better?

BRUH......we have been saying that he can get talent!!! When he got Casey a month before fall camp I knew he was a good recruiter lol but Casey was never developed here. We had him two years and he continually threw off his back foot. He is one of , if not the best recruiter in the swac but I promise you, if Casey would have had 2 more years of eligibility he would have sucked the talent out of him lol. There are only a few who actually learned to develop themselves ie Rico, Qua, Zach, and Jimmy O. They were just good, comegy had nothing to do with that. However talented they are when they arrive on campus, is exactly how talented they will be when they leave. NO IMPROVEMENT.

If we were not the best team in the SWAC during the Comegy era, who was? SU? :lol: PV? :lol: ASU :lol:

No program in the SWAC was better than JSU while Comegy was at JSU. ..and during that time every team in the conference got a ring except AlaState, Alcorn and Valley. :smh: So we know what teams are automatically out of the running. :lol:
 
The ONLY team I'd say was better than JSU was Grambling under Broadway. That's the ONLY team and coach I'd give those kind of props to.
