HELP

I'm so sick of this talentless broad. I will be happy when her 15 minutes are up because she can sing about as well as my butt can whistle!

And has she ever heard of anything that isn't a sample!

Ashanti is eye candy.

All she doing is singing long hooks off of hip-hop beats that have been jacked themselves.

Yall notice that people are starting to recycle, recyled beats.

I.e Ashanti, Lil Wayne, Lil Romeo, Cash Money etc.
Hip-hop is boo boo now.

The Sample Business

I don't call it the music business anymore, I call it the sample business! It's a shame the music executives are now called sample executives. I agree, Ashanti is a beautiful woman with no talent at all. I don't want to get started on the current sad state of the recording industry because it's definitely not music anymore! I'm a music major and I just can't stand to hear good music get fugged up! Hell even the old school rap is better than this shat that's playing on the radio now!

It's amazing what a computer can do to a voice, hell even a career. Ashanti almost has an Aaliyah quality to her oice on the radio. Soft, smooth, laid back, etc. But I saw her on Apollo and she just walkd around the stage holdin her belly while hollin' the hook into the mic. She was nowhere near the right key (sounded like she went through 2 or 3 different keys trying to find the right one). I heard she did't o much better on the MTV awards.

I'm with pbla. As a music major, the current state of the 'industry' saddens me. I have never been ahuge fan of sampling anyway, but these last few years have made me wanna chnk my radio out the window. They had a discussion about sampling on 97.9 a few months back that asked a question. Is it truly creativity when someone samples a song that was already a hit? If their song becomes a hit, is it because of what they said? Or was it the recycled jam of the track?

Sorry I went off on a tangent. But my jury is still out on Ashanti. I would much rather look at her picture and listen to her on the radio than hear her live.

I agree with everything you said. Just wanted to add: India Arie's first "hit" was a sample. She sucks She needs to stick to coffee houses. Alicia Keys is overrated. I heard she sucked at the Essence too. Lauryn Hill was queen but she's on some other sht now. Erykah and Jill are holding it down.

UGH!!

WOAH - Even Ashanti's SECOND single is a remake??!?!?!?? And she's supposed to be the latest craze? Oh pleeze!! Let go of this flava of the month syndrome people!!!

She'll prolly win gobs of awards, too! Bring back the real talent!! India.Arie send help!!!

I didn't study music in college, but I have studied music over half my life. I can't even listen to this new stuff and enjoy it like I should. All I hear is the jacked beat and the jacked vocal stylings. Why do we like hook singers so much? I swear .... These people are fine for studio work when there aren't any better sounding singers around, but that's about it..

Nate Dogg is a prime example... He sounds great on hooks, but he sounds atrocious live. He should have never made 2 cds...

Butch Cassidy and Kokane - Same as Nate Dogg

Total - Sounded perfectly fine on Biggie's Ready to Die. I had the misfortune of seeing them live. These heifers lip synched the entire performance..

And the latest crop of Mary J. Blige (who has problems herself with tune) imitators need to sit their arse down!

I recommend listening to the following artists to combat this new jack phenomenon:

Roberta Flack
Minnie Ripperton
Patti LaBelle
Phyllis Hymen
Teena Marie

And also

Peabo Bryson
Howard Hewitt
Jeffery Osborne

These performers could hold a mic and sing all night long!!!!

Name one other instrument India Arie plays other than guitar. Her music is boring and uninspiring.

India plays the Guitar, trumpet, Mellophone/F-horn, drums, clarinet. That sista got skills. I believe she played in the Jazz band at some Atlanta high school.

UNINSPIRING!?!?!?! WHAT?!?! That sista talks about TRUE Black Love!!!!! That one song called "Part of My Life" needs to be played to every sista on the planet. She respect black men for who we are, not just bodies (even though I work hard on mine) but for our Soul, Mind, and Spirit.
If you just listened to "Video" then you havent caught all of India.Arie. She is the TRUTH!!!!

U took the dayum words right out of my mouth Sugar....she's just a pretty face and that's it. I mean can you say talentless.

Huh?

Hey Nastynupe...I thought you LIKED Indie Arie!

I remember when she first came out, you dissed the hell out of her..:D

But a month or so later, you came back, started a thread recanting what you said and then gave her props!

Now you dissin' again....

Which is it man??????????

I never have been a fan of the 'hook singer'. What happened real vocal talent? I wasn't a big Jill Scott fan (I liked the music, but she never really just moved me). But the more I listen to her CD's (both the first one and the live one), she is more of a vocalist than any of these industry 'stars' now. Her music isn't anywhere near as popular as theirs, but she can 'sang'. I think Jill would have been a lot more popular if she had a 'figure'.

I never really was an Alicia Keys fan. Everybody wants to give her all these accolades already. Granted, she is a much better vocalist than those mentioned above. But everyone brags on her piano playing. She hasn't shown me much beyond what the mid-level music student has to learn for theory (not hating....speaking the truth). To me the jury is still out on her. I'll have to hear her follow-up album and then I will be able to judge.

FUGG THAT CHICK ALICIA KEYS!!!!!!!!!

She is so Average!!!!!
I dont see what the Hype was/is about her. I know I was tired of seeing her face everywhere. I saw her more times than I saw my kids.

My bad yall.....:D That last message was from me. I am in a computer lab, and I didn't realize that this computer was logged in under his name. Sorry PVSAX99...:) (hey, you got a free post).

Man Teena Marie was the truth on Fire and Desire. That is one of my all time favorite slow jams.

I definitely concur
