MUSIC 2025

LOL, I came to this thread to see if this joint had already been posted. What is the story behind this? I love the fact that peeps have been getting much recognition in yet another music style that we created and have not always been given the respect that is deserved.

The highlight of this song for me was last weekend. My moms came to my present city for my son's high school graduation. We all hung out with my in-laws. She was decked out and had her boots on. My peeps started singing this very song. Even she at 70 something years old knew what time it was. Yet I was out of the loop. LOL

I had students last summer that was trying to hip me to a popular country song. Maybe this was the one and I just couldn't recall it.

I think "Cowboy Carter's" popularity, viral TikTok challenges, its use in graduations, and a resonance with a cultural need for connection and resilience during political uncertainty, a blend of hip-hop and country vibes, blew the song up like "Happy" by Pharrell Williams. Tailgating this fall at football games is going to be lit up with this song.

This kid is out of Memphis. I've been digging in the crates for more Blues in recent years. There are a number of young cats making their mark in the genre like Christone "Kingfish" Ingram and now this kid--> "EJ Jones." He has a couple of other singles on the tube that are nice as well (hasn't put out full album just yet).

Anyhow, the energy in the video and the music of course captures a side of certain areas in Memphis that I really love (raw, countryhood like but very soulful)...
