Motorcycle Riders

I'm finally legal. Took the MSC and got my endorsement. So what will be a good starter bike for a newbie? I'm looking for something used and cheap. Here is what I'm considering.

2003-Yamaha-V-Star $1800

2001 Yamaha FZ1 - $2200

What are you doing? Are you commuting, trying to join a MC, looking to add a little excitement to your world? What't the purpose of getting the bike? The reason you are getting the bike will impact significantly which bike you should consider.

Me I would't ride either of them but I have been riding for 20 years. Use to feel like the man rolling around 3rd ward on that GSXR 750 did plenty of wheelies out in front of the Galleria. I think I was the reason the make the speed humps bigger aroud TSU. Boy I use to love Holmes Rd. Those were the days. lol

It's something I always wanted to do. I think I will just enjoy the ride more than speed and excitement. I went to a motorcycle shop today and I was like a little kid in that place. I don't wont to rush my purchase, but I feel like I need to get something real soon before I forget what I learned in the MSC. I have never ridden a bike in my life until that course.

Find some people with experience to ride with. That Basic course is just that the basics it's not really enough training to make you safe on the streets. If you don't have or know anyone to ride with, as soon as you get your bike take an advanced training course. That's where you bring your own bike and they teach you how to handle many of the most common issues you will run into on the streets on your bike.

If you go small cc's go cheap as possible. I would love to have a dollar for every time someone told me they just wanted something minimal to put around on. 99% within a 9 Mos were looking for a bigger bike. That kid in a candy shop feeling doesn't go away quietly it cost $ to quiet that down.

Welcome to the 2 wheeled world, your life will never be the same...

It can indeed become a hefty investment. Especially when one desires customization to set one apart from others who may have the same brand/type of bike.

Never!!!

Even when you stop riding that urge will forever be there. Motorcycle riders are different people. To understand...folks have to ride bikes.

I'm seriously considering one of these.

My wife backed off riding and sold her GSXR 1000 some 6 or 7 years ago. But now
I'm thinking about getting her one of these for her birthday coming up soon. It's classifieds as a MC.

I been telling her she needs to get on something or she'sgoing to have to ride with me. She doesn't like ridding on the back. lol

Thanks for the feedback. I went by the Yamaha dealer today to check out that 2003 V-Star cruiser I posted above. I didn't like the feel. I kind of fell in love with those sports tourers. I like the combination of a cruiser and sports bike.

Check out a Harley too. Started out on a Fat Boy and migrated to a Cruiser (Road Glide) if you are going to take long trips.

That's a nice bike right there. @The Founder

Thanks!!!

I chromed out as much as I could. I added a racing exhaust where the outside didn't get hot to the touch. Striped off some of the designs. Added a tinted viser. Put side signals instead of the ones that stuck out. I also cut off the excess rear license plate area. I also have a place where I could add nitro under the side. It's a 600 but changes in the engine that the previous owner did made that sucker fuck some dudes with 1000cc bikes. I also shortened the rear signal lights.

Every piece of metal that could be chromed was chromed.

One additive that's not there was a chrome chain cover. I added that a few weeks later. Also I swapped out the steering tips. They ended up being chromed out later. Then changed the grips to black and yellow.

After you get the bike, start looking for a trailer & then a truck to pull it w/ so you don't have to ask or beg any mf'er to use their raggedy shit :D . And after you waste your $$$ on a single rail bike carrier, you can then skull fvck yourself because you will want a dual rail bike trailer lol. Purchasing a trex or similar can am will completely change your view of what type of trailer to purchase. Cargo box anyone to keep it secure and out of the elements? Priced one of those 55K$ half-ton trucks yet? lol Custom trailers ranging from 3500-9500+$? :D

Like I said earlier, a hefty investment.

If we posting up let's make it do what it do.
This here is my ace:
