Mississippi SWAC schools among smallest athletic budgets in Division 1

All of us know where we stand w/ things, Jay. And because we know what we know, we look @ the absurdity of the words that don't match the broke actions that some spew. :D

For instance, our football stadium seats 15K [2nd largest D-I FCS stadium in Tx] and is expandable to 30K (phase II). Because our system saw the need to sink $$$$ into ALL of our athletic venues and that SAME system built the new phase I athletic venues w/ acceptance of the fact that @ some point, they will say "OUR school doesn't belong w/ those schools anymore and OUR school needs to make the jump to D-I FBS [documented in the A&M BOR Sys meeting minutes]." Those separate facilities for t&f, soccer, et al were no accident. ::read:: They (the System) didn't fund to build all that new shit about PV's campus for us to stay where we are. Most need to look @ that handwriting on the wall.

I swear you post this 3 times a thread on ever other thread since y'all had the dam thing. Ok we get it. Congrats. Whoopy f'n doo for y'all and that cute ass stadium. You still missing the fact that it suits your fan base until it grows large enough for the expansion. What suits our fan base would be something 25k or bigger or have you not realized just yet how many fans we average a year compared to y'all? We can't just be out here building stuff just cause the sky blue, bewild. Gotta take into account fanbase and what would be best for our fans too.

I disagree. I never said "swac" I stated higher education academic/non academic across the board. Quite frankly each and every school in the SWAC is screwed up. I'm not in the business of comparing because we shouldn
t compare. My belief is simple, if GSU figures out how to get $1 million we should at least try to help every other SWAC school get at $500k. To me it's frustrating what HBCUs have become because of state cut backs. More importantly our administrators inability to terminate employment to keep the doors open.

Congrats to JSU on erecting its new 25K seat stadium on campus and congrats on being top-5 SWAC and nationally w/ regards to D-I FCS athletic budgets.

They have enough to be competitive on the SWAC level. Some schools are grossly extravagant ..... coaches with $10 million+ salaries, like gtf out of here.

Why... jsu athletic budget was always around $6.5m to $7.5m as to Alcorn and valley being around what they are now. ALWAYS HAS BEEN.

Jackson State University ushered in a new era of football on Friday, introducing former Tuskegee coach Rick Comegy as the top Tiger.

Comegy, 52, agreed to a four-year contract with a base salary of $155,000 a year, making him the highest-paid coach in JSU history. It also is one of the top three salaries in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, and is nearly double what JSU paid former coach James Bell.
"We did what we had to do to get the coach we had to have," JSU President Ronald Mason Jr. said Friday at a campus news conference attended by nearly 200 administrators, alumni, players and fans.

JSU had to seek alternative funding to close the deal with Comegy, who reportedly earned about $140,000 a year as coach and athletic director at Tuskegee. About $103,000 of Comegy's annual JSU salary will be paid out of the school's athletic department budget, Mason said. The additional $52,000 a year will come from JSU's private Tiger Fund, which subsidizes some athletics projects.

I was under the impression that Jackson State's athletic budget was hovering around the $10 million mark for a few years now. No smack, but I was just under the impression that's how J-State's budget was.

Just was thinking that Jackson State was quietly raising its war chest in the last few years in anticipation of conference realignment.
