DOUBLE SHOCKER IN 6A!!!!!

Both Jackson Provine and Madison Central bites the dust last night.
I didn't know the big 7 footer transferred from Madison Central to Grenada. He was the big difference in that Provine win for Grenada.

Grenada upsets Class 6A favorite Provine behind White's triple-double.......................... Clarion ledger
Even in its first year in Class 6A, Provine was considered the favorite to win a state championship.

But a 6-foot-11 Dandy Dozen center and a pesky opposing defense ended that dream Wednesday.

Joniah White posted a triple-double (13 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocks) to lead Grenada to a surprising 67-61 win over Provine in in the semifinals of the MHSAA Class 6A boys basketball state championships at the Mississippi Coliseum. Grenada will play Madison Central/Gulfport in the title game Saturday at 8 p.m.

White, who transferred to Grenada from Madison Central after his junior year, altered shots and clogged up the middle of the lane effectively for the Chargers.

Gulfport upends Madison Central in 6A semis.....................Clarion Ledger
It was a rematch of last year’s boys 6A semifinals.

Just with the exact opposite ending.

Gulfport came back in the second half to stun Madison Central 44-40 in Wednesday’s semifinal round of the Class 6A MHSAA boys state championships.

Gulfport (31-3) will face Grenada at 8 p.m. Saturday for its first title in 12 years.

“It’s funny, (Madison Central coach) Rahim (Lockhart) is one of my better friends,” said Gulfport coach Owen Miller, who lost to Madison Central in a holiday tournament in December. “I hate it was against him (Wednesday), but I guess it was just our turn.”

Dynasty Mode: Callaway captures 3rd-straight title

Mar. 15, 2014

Malik Newman said he’d win four state championships at Callaway.

After Friday night, he’s only one away.

The nation’s top-rated junior helped Callaway (31-1) cruise to an easy 49-33 win against Vicksburg in the MHSAA Class 5A boys state championship at the Mississippi Coliseum in front of an estimated crowd of 6,800. By the fourth quarter, many of those fans headed to the aisles to leave in the midst of a blowout.

The win clinched top-ranked Callaway’s third consecutive state championship and fifth in the last six years. It also secured Callaway’s recent title run among the best ever in basketball-crazy Jackson. Callaway became only the second Jackson Public School team to win three consecutive state championships after Lanier did it in Class 4A from 2005 to 2007.

The title is the first under first-year coach David Sanders, who replaced Wayne Brent when he left for Jackson State.

Congrats to my alma mater, "The Horn Lake High Lady Eagles" on winning the 6A girls championship with a 74-39 beatdown of Olive Branch. Their only lost of the season came at the hands of OB in early January.
