CHICAGO (AP) --

Michael Jordan's wife has filed for divorce, seeking to dissolve her 13-year marriage to the world's most famous basketball player, the Chicago Tribune reported on its Web site Monday night.

In a petition filed Friday in circuit court in Waukegan, Ill., Juanita Jordan cited ``irreconcilable differences'' in seeking a dissolution of her marriage to Jordan.

She seeks permanent custody of the couple's three children, the 25,000-square-foot ``marital residence'' in Highland Park and half the couple's property.

The petition listed the couple as J. Vanoy Jordan and M. Jeff Jordan.

``It is the parties' hope that the media respect the family's need and desire for privacy in this painful matter,'' Juanita Jordan's lawyer, Don Schiller, told the Tribune.

The six-page petition says irreconcilable differences have caused ``the irretrievable breakdown'' of Mrs. Jordan's marriage to the basketball superstar and that future attempts at reconciliation ``would be impractical and not in the best interests of the family.''

The couple was married Sept. 2, 1989, in Las Vegas. Their children are Jeffrey, 13, Marques, 11, and Jasmine, 9.

Jordan cited a desire to spend more time with his family when he retired from the Bulls the first time in October 1994 and again in January 1999.

He maintained his Chicago-area residence when he returned to basketball as a front-office executive with the Washington Wizards last season, but his decision to resume his playing career has kept him in Washington full-time.

The petition describes Jordan as ``a well and able-bodied man who is capable of making suitable provisions for the support and maintenance of the Petitioner and for the support and education of the parties' children in a style commensurate with that enjoyed by the parties during marriage.''

Jordan, who was paid more than $30 million in his final season with the Bulls, is one of the world's richest athletes

That man is a professional athlete. He is one the greatest player to ever touch a basketball!! Now, because he is playing in D.C. and can't be home (like he was when he was retired) to watch the kids, you want a divorce!! You didn't complain the other times he was playing. You didn't complain when he went to the Olympics!!

If Mike gives her a divorce, I hope that they signed a <b>Prenup</b> so that she can't try to take him to the cleaners. Give her 30 million, the Chicago house, and tell her bye!! He'll make that 30 million back in endorsements in a few months!! The kids' are already taken care of. Their trust fund has more than most people make in 20 years!!

Really, Juanita is tired of all of Mike's girlfriends and such. She could've been in DC if she wanted to see Mike. Hell, bring the kids too !!!

It was just a matter of time. Thats sad but it happens. I am sure there is a lot more that went on with MJ that was very news worthy and didn't get ugly and I hope this one follows. :eek:

(whatever those differences are).

I applaud her for being able to handle his indiscretions up to this point (but that's the life of a nba icon). I am also grateful that the suit (as it's been filed) isn't slandorous to MJ. She seems to want to be fair....so....

Let me ask this question. What are the numerous indiscretions you speak off? This marriage is not ending soley based upon what Mike has done.

I didn't say it was all M. Jordan's fault. Nowhere in any of my post did I say the woman was a saint (feel free to scroll up)....I'm sure she's not....just as I'm sure he's not. I'm not pointing fingers at all. If he were to take it to the press about her, it wouldn't effect her "career". If she took it to the press on him, it could effect his career. I just said she wasn't trying to drag the brother through the mud...and that's a good thing. THAT'S ALL. :(

I have family in chi-town, and the indiscretions I'm speaking of are the ones that have come up in their press, that the sister never even commented about. That is why I applauded the way she handled herself in said situations.

You would definitely be known as the Man who took Micheal Jordan's wife from him. Of course, it did not happen that way. But, rumors do get out.:rolleyes:
 
MJ in no way is a hero of the cat daddy. Contrary to the way popular America feels regarding him, I have never been a big Jordan fan. I give him his props on the Basketball court, he is one of the greatest in his sport, but I don't know enough about him off the court to consider him a hero.

Now having said that, Thanks for your clarification. I'm sure Jordan has made some decisions he is not proud of. We all have done so at some point in our lives. Your statement, the one I put in quotes, made it seem that you were giving her all the praise and making him the bad guy.
 
I noticed that since his comeback, Michael doesn't "wag" his tongue like he used to. Could this be some of the reason's they have "irreconcilible" differences?
