THE Logical ONE
Ok, i see Yale owns the stadium. It's almost 100 years old and people are complaining about Memorial being 60 years old? It seat 62K so it is slightly larger than Memorial.

That's the problem. If JSU doesn't have an idea of what those cost are now along with expected revenues, then the likelihood of this venture being profitable is slim.
That's why I think JSU needs to put a FOR SALE sign on it on July 2, 2011.
You all don't have several years to figure it out and try to wait other people out. Mess around and get it wrong a couple of years and end up selling it at a distressed price.
oh, okWe already know how this is going to go down.
So, the journey begins.
Not necessarily.
If JayRob's theory is correct, then this transfer from the state to JSU to UMC may speed the process.
The Mississippi Legislature was never going to approve funding for an on-campus JSU stadium directly because the Republican constituents would be all up in arms.
This way, as long as JSU gets a new stadium, everybody gets what they want without disturbing the natives. JSU gets a new stadium. UMC gets the land under Veteran's Memorial. The politicians can stay in office. Everybody is happy. The average redneck in Mississippi is D-U-M-B. By the time they figure out what has happened it'll be too late.
U Penn's stadium used to be larger than Memorial but now holds 55K. I know these Ivy League schools have money to renovate but construction on that stadium started in 1895.![]()
And Ol Hailey done made good with the Black vote in Mississippi... (Ain't gonna make a damn bit of difference though, he ain't getting the Black vote)
Which is why I don't understand why people are saying Memorial is old. There are a several HBCU stadiums that are older than Memorial.
I give up.
Just take the word of people that live here and has been following this since 2001 when this first came up.
Trust us when we say Memorial and the land it sits on will never, ever be sold at a distressed price. Unless that Hospital Complex, ( 4 hospitals and a Dental School total), decide to close down I-55 on the East side and demolish the FONDERON neighborhood on the Northwest side to build, they have no more land to build on............NONE. ST. Domonics used the last free space from I-55 To Memorial.
Just trust people that live here on the "facts" about what is going on over there at memorial.
I actually like Memorial. I like the idea of an on-campus stadium but I shole hope we lose our atmosphere. There is nothing like a JSU game.

JSU should already have an idea of revenue cost and liabilities based on the records and stats from Memorial Stadium over the past 10-20 years. All JSU accountants have to do is review the costs accrued from state records. Shouldn't be difficult to do.
I didn't think they owned it. I knew about it but I thought they just played in it. I think Penn has a pretty big stadium too. I pass it all the time but I have never been in there.
JSU by itself could revitilize the HWY 80 Corridor if they work with the City of Jackson to tear down Metrocenter and build their future stadium there in its place.
It would attract a lot of JSU prospects if they did this.
Hell that still wouldn't be on their campus.
The land has been earmarked for a new stadium. We might have to emminent domain some folk, but they're taking land for much less than a football stadium. The stadium would be built between JSU and downtown. We'll basically have an athletic complex with the baseball, softball, soccer and football all near each other. Only basketball will be by it's lonesome on the other side.

The university inherits a facility that one study says needs $42 million in renovations, has a yearly maintenance budget of $1.7 million and is located off the school's campus.
