Melo or King James

It is honestly hard to say.... Number wise it is just too close to compare... Carmello had a better supporting cast than James did.... They both had great rookie seasons.... I say they need to be co Rookie of the years.

I say Melo if I had to pick one. He just seems more fluent with his game on a consistant basis than James. Better jump shooter. Shoots for a higher percentage. Better on the low post. James is more athletic, probably a better defender, and much more explosive off the dribble. Having said that I could realistically see a co-rookie of the year this season.

Mello took the Nuggets to the playoffs and a winning record in the WEST.

Lebron didn't make the playoffs in the EAST though improving his team.

Both teams had 17-65 records before the two came, yet Denver improved to 43-38 so far (26 more wins) while Cleveland improved to a 34-47 record so far (17 more wins).

Their stats are almost the same like someone said earlier. Yet, I would go with Melo for the above alone. More team improvement against harder competition...

Team records usually don't have an influence on this award. But, since they are so close, stat wise, if they are not co-MVP's, Mellow should get it because of Denver making the playoff's for the first time in a long time.

Good points. I totally agree. I think Melo has a more improved team and he also shot a higher percentage with more points per game against MUCH stiffer comp in the West. I say Co-MVP's wouldn't get an arguement but if one deserves it over the other you've got to give it to Melo.

That was in my opinion... I know that isn't how it will go down. I just feel that the impact a player made on his team included with his individual accomplishments is a big factor. Both Melo and King James impact on their teams are great but Melo IMO provided more of an impact in terms of wins. To me, tipping the scale... When all things are equal, something must be in one or the others favor. Both teams started from the same point (17-65). One ended up in the playoffs; the other didn't. But, this is just my opinion though...

Who is the rookie of the year and why?

(and Bell has nothing to do with it)

I have no idea...I like Melo because he's not getting pub everytime I turn the TV on....I like James because I can see him as the next Jordan.....no offense Kobe but Kobe was not playing at the level of James or Melo his first year in the league.

Lebron James. Stats are a wash, depite Lebron having more assists. But that's to be expected because he handles the ball more than Mello. And the individual impact on the team has been a wash as well. So I have to go with the guy who's just the better player overall. That's Lebron.

I got Bron Bron. Here's why. Lebron is coming straight out of High School. He is better than the Hype. I look at Melo as just a scorer, but Lebron is a better defender, and better passer. To me team records have nothing to do with the award. This is not the MVP vote, where I think you do have to look at how the team performed. If you are going to base it on records, then Dewayne Wade from Miami should be MVP. The best rookie out there Is Lebron James.

I disagree. A 26 game improvement and making the playoffs in the West is way, way better than a 17 game improvement and not making the playoffs in the weak East.

In essence, it is the MVP "vote" for rookies.

I agree that this is not an "MVP" award but Lebron and Melo are equal in all other areas in terms of statistics. Except assists. But, wins aren't equal either. I believe that wins help to measure impact on a team. Impact to me is just as important as the factors. Again, IMO...

Also, I think Dwayne Wade should be included in the conversation. Would win the ROY in any other season if it weren't for Melo and Lebron. Shoots a far better percentage than both of them (.465 fg%; 16.3 ppg) while dishing out 4.5 assists also. This is with both Eddie Jones and Lamar Odom (who both throw up shots) on the team. Best defender out of the three... Led the team to a winning record and playoff berth also in the EAST (16 game improvement so far). While he won't win it, he is a solid choice in any other year.

Put Kobe on the same teams his rookie year and Kobe would have put up better numbers. Melo is my choice because his game has us talking about him and not the hype.

This is unfair to LeBron because even if he had averaged 30/game and took the Cavs to the playoffs...the talk would still be about hype.

You just finds a way to hate. Now you are hating on the greatest basketball player in the world. That would be 3 time world champion Kobe Bryant

The award should go to Melo or Co-Rookies of the year.
But the NBA is a marketing machine. The will have Co-Rookies so they can play up the rivalry for years to come.

It was a different mentality about high school players back then, though. The Lakers didn't NEED him to play, and also even if they had, they would have had the mentality of bringing him along slowly.

With what they've both meant to their teams, and what they've DONE for their teams this year, I think Co-MVPs would be the right way to go.
