Melendez leaving Alabama State for FIU

You need to consider your audience sir. :) You're speaking among a few who have the mental ability akin to a 6 y/o lol.
Dude, I've been watching SWAC baseball for twenty something years and know what I'm talking about. Bama State did well to go undefeated, but don't get all crazy because a team won conference games by beating at least 90 percent of SWAC teams that were below .500. In other words, they beat sub par teams. That's not a lie, that's pure fact which I choose to consider.
That's good, but not great. Beat one team in the NCAA, then you're talking.

What up PJ? Even some of your own jags stated that this was not the best team in SWAC history and that the SWAC overall had a "down" year. I guess they're part of the tea party too.

They didn't come on this thread and send it straight to hell. That's typical for you Tea Party Tigers.

How is the thread going to hell? This thread was all but forgotten until someone disagreed with a comment or two.

I said they were "good", but I didn't say they were great? I said that my own school had a "down" year as well. I can't give an honest opinion?
When folks claim this coach is the best over the last three or four years, I'll call them out on it. If you only win ONE title out of five years, I would hesitate before I agreed with whose been the best coach over the last three or four years. If I had to choose a coach for that title, I'd say it was the coach at Texas Southern, but that's a whole different subject.

You don't have to say that ASU was great. You don't even have to say that ASU was good. One thing though--- ASU was undefeated in the SWAC!!! 28-0. That's never been done before. Period. No amount of salt you attempt to throw will change that FACT. If you don't want to acknowledge the accomplishment, then don't. But you make yourself look so trifling when you keep trying (as you are) to discount it.
smh

sad part is I'm not at all surprised that it is you trying (or should I say crying) the hardest here.

Good day

Dude, whose denying Bama State's 28-0 record? I took into account the entire conference play and what I took into account, you're totally ignoring.
I've said this from the beginning because I was basically one of the few who talked about baseball the entire year and posted scores and kept up with play.
I didn't jump on the bandwagon like some who started thumping his chest after the fact.
Do you think the SWAC was stronger this year than normal? The numbers clearly say "no" but some folks still ignore that.
The record was good to look at, but when play began in the tournament, it didn't matter one bit because that same team lost by double digits. This proves that the SWAC was wack in baseball this year. It's not Bama State's fault that it was, but that's just the nature of the beast that cannot be ignored.

Dude please. So Bama State is the GREATEST SWAC team of ALL time. You want a damn cookie. Who gives a crap. They played like crap in the NCAA tournament. That proves my point even more that the SWAC wasn't that good this year.
Keep fooling yourself though. Bama State may have been good, but they weren't great in comparison to some previous SWAC teams, including one of the team that YOU played on.
I hope you can at least comprehend that. Good but not GREAT.

Is this a statement or a question? I know damn well I didn't say anything about Bama State being the greatest SWAC team of all time. No need for me to debate good vs. great because I did not include that in the discussion. I'm level headed enough to know you cannot compare one team to 56 years of history. Just like you cannot compare the Golden State Warriors of 2016 to the Bulls of the 90s. All I stated was "That's a huge accomplishment because baseball is a game where anyone can be beat. Heck, nearly every year there is a college team that beats a MLB team during their spring training. Alabama State was the only D1 school to go undefeated in conference play. Coastal Carolina was the next closest with the least amount of losses and they won the whole thing. People who never played a college sport will easily dismiss this as a feat, as someone who played, this is a huge accomplishment. Even when SU had the great teams of the 90s and early 2000s, they didn't go undefeated."

Name one team that "played well" and advanced beyond the regionals from the SWAC. A loss is a loss, and a win is a win. Doesn't matter if its 13-1 or 4-3.

On a side note, this is debatable but I personally believe SWAC baseball players are more fundamentally sound (bunting, moving runners over, consistently making routine plays) than when I played. When I played, the teams had mostly athletes, versus true baseball players with a high baseball IQ.

Thanks for participating in this discussion. I know you are not going to change your narrow way of thinking (nor will I), so with that, as my guy Mike Tyson said “I guess I'm gonna fade into Bolivian.” No need to have further discussion with you on this.

You all shole can change a convo. lol

No one had taken anything away from ASU. I think INITIALLY, most were amazed at how the PV dude was riding their coach for winning one title....

But he did have a great YEAR. No denying that!

What was posted that was ignorant? I can call you an ignoramus but I won't. But I will ask you to explain what I said that was ignorant.
Was it that I said that Bama State was good but not great? Was that it? Not the best SWAC team of all time "in MY opinion"? A subpar year for SWAC teams? Was that it or was it that I said this was "Bama State's best team" of all time? Which of those statements were ignorant?

It's not just in this thread.

How do you sign 29 players in baseball for 11.7 scholarships? Each player gets 40% of a scholarship, not counting the returners.

Looks like they have 16 seniors this year. You also throw in potential academic scholarships and some of those top 100 players will be drafted. Their top signee is throwing 96 mph. No way he's going to college.

Sure hate to see him leave. Omar told me to tell him if he needed any more pointers, holla at him.

Is he taking all those kids he brought in back to their homes in Fla with him or did ICE already pick them up?
