Sources say Bulldogs AD being forced out of job

Alabama A&M athletic director Jim Martin is being forced out of his position, The Times has learned.

Sources in the athletic department said Martin got the word from new school president Robert Jennings late last week and told a number of his head coaches Monday morning that he would be leaving the university as early as April.

What is going on in Hicksville? Where's MD? He sure have been quiet for sometime. Somebody need to go and check the VFW and see if he's alright.

Is this how you treat someone who has done this for you?

An A&M graduate, Martin was named the school's athletic director in 1996 and is in the midst of his ninth year. During his tenure, he helped move A&M's program from Division II and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to Division I and I-AA in football and into the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

He played a key role in hiring former A&M football coach Ron Cooper and hired current head coach Anthony Jones. Martin also hired women's basketball coach Altherias Warmley.

Also under his watch, A&M added three women's sports - softball, soccer and bowling - to its athletic program.

An academic center has been opened for the student-athletes to use as a study hall and to help monitor their progress.

And are you all trying to go back here???

Before Martin's hiring, A&M was without a permanent athletic director for 18 months following Gene Bright's departure for the same position at Morris Brown.

:shame:

Dude was strictly incompetent.
That two incompetent ADs down.
Now if we could just get that damn Commish out of office

MD, has been aware of the situation, but now GR can get his group in windsuits.

When you solve the Institutional Control issues we had prior to Jim being hired, you can make a lot of enemies. MD will give you a full report later.

Whomever it is, it won't be a re-tread from days gone by.

Sounds like the new Pres. wants to bring in his own people. This may be just the beginning. I thought he was doing a good job up there. We'll take over his contract if you throw in Coach Townes with him.:hat:

I have heard McClelland's (PVAMU) name mentioned?????????

First JState, y'all, and even Gram. Watch our dumb ass president. Watch what this mofo won't do to keep Charles. :| Just watch. :( He'll prolly wanna' bring in one of his "cronies" to do the job. Just watch. :|

If y'all get Charles, y'all are definitely getting a good hard-working man. :(

Looking at the state of things, it was time for a change ... sure the volleyball and basketball teams have moved on, and football is doing its thing ... but there are some other aspects which need some attention ... both tennis teams are within an earshot of a conference title, while the soccer teams are making it do what it do. I think that things need changing and it always starts at the top.

lol........you must be talking about the 18 months after Gene Bright

All I can tell you at the moment is that of the 350 plus supporters in the ACRG, every single one of them is disappointed at this decision. This group was started to support athletics, and mind you that AAMU never had a group like this in the past. What do I say to a supporter who support the program to the tune of $50,000 or to the couple of Millionairs who ride that Spirit Coach on every road trip. "L" everyone thought we were headed in the right direction. Only people with that ax to grind get heard prior to decision being made.

If we want strong programs we must establish some continuity.

MD, I thought you guys were moving in the right direction. There are those on the hill who have problems with everything and everybody. If it's the Prez behind this, he will make enemies really fast. His tenture will become a living hell. I remember the stuff they did to Gibson and his family. Prayers go out for him and his family.
