Maroon and White Papars: Jackson State

I would like to get a story on all the young men JSU sent to the D-home. They should have graduated in 2016 from the D-Home. Did they follow their Mentor to Itta Bena

@The Founder Never put mighty and jsu in the same sentence. That's been an oxymoron along the same lines as those delusional fans of a certain underachieving nfl franchise located in Texas not named the Houston Texans.

Carry on...

An oxymoron is that per capita foolishness yall be on here with, and a Saints fan even thinking they can dare to make an insinuation about America's Team. Dude the Saints and you really fix your mouth to call another team underachievers? How many years the saints been in the league and how many banners hanging in the Super Dome and how many HOF'ers in your...Oh do yall have a ring of honor? Them Boys probably have more Super Bowls than the Saints have Significant players over the history of their team.

On the Saints Website they list one of the greatest players to be the frigging Kicker. Your 40 year anniversary teams reads like a....here your look at it for your self. After your do go sit down somewhere and eat some spoiled crawfish. You saints fans are much like jsu fans with your delusions of grandeur.

What has Texas Southern accomplished in SWAC Football outside of Michael Strahan?

Ummm please read the opening post. YOU get back on topic. I see now you are Pops from the Color Purple....you act like you been drinking some Suge Avery pea. LOL
You make my point Sir. Like so many of you on here you are stuck in the past. Do you know "The Color Purple" came out in 1985? That's 31 years ago. Just think many of the students in College now were not even born when your point of reference move came out.

Still talking about The Color Purple makes you seem like this guy....

SO!

After what Comegy was subjected to, seems the shot callers at JSU will take nothing less than perpetual championships. Only a deranged person would take that job. Comegy won and won repeatedly. What more can one do?
Comegy benefitted from a sorry SWAC East. Some divisions go through cycles, and from 2008 to 2013, the East offered very little competition. Bama State was consistent the whole time, but everybody else was terrible. Alcorn was trying to work out its coaching situation, similar to what JSU is going through now. AAMU sort of tapered off after 2007. Valley was Valley.

A coach like Comegy could easily be a consistent winner in a division like that.

Only JSU can be narcissistic and self deprecating in the same breath.

If that's the case, then Hopson ALSO benefited from a sorry SWAC East.....maybe even sorrier.

Hopson did, but he also finished the deal in the SCG. He built a legit program. Comegy hadn't. Which is why he is at Valley. He only lasted that long in Jackson because he had no competiton in his division.

The subject at hand was in response to 662 saying how Comegy benefited from a weak SWAC East in order to get to the SCG.
The last two years, JSU wasn't good, Bama State wasn't good, AAMU and Valley definitely weren't that good.

So all any team can do is line up against the opposition and play ball. The record books don't recognize wins based on the level of competition (with exception to the Heisman voters in 1994). I can't deny that the East was pedestrian at best during Comegy's time, however, JSU fired Comegy after a trip to the SCG and an OVERTIME loss! No program strives for runner up, but by God it was a trip to the SCG. Have the years since Comegy's departure been worth the termination? Hughes may/may not revitalize the program. Comegy may/may not have benefited from a weak division. What is the "high water" mark what's the football program barometer? When did a trip to the SCG and a nail bitter loss constitute a coach's firing? Listen, I don't carry any deep seated hate towards JSU. I believe all HBCU affiliates are my family. I tailgate with JSU alum at teh Soul Bowl. I have family that graduated from JSU. I have neighbors, peers, church members who attended JSU. The coaching job at JSU is the most volatile job is the SWAC......period. Some Negroes ain't never satisfied.

It simply meant that many JSU folks were tired of coming in second and many knew in their minds that we were coming up short even though we had better talent than the likes of Pine Bluff and su. That's not news.
Hindsight is 20/20 and I'm almost sure that most JSU folks would've voted to keep Comegy based on Harold Jackson's pitiful performance, had they known what was going to happen AFTER he (Comegy) was let go.
Still though, the SWAC East over the last two years has been weaker than the years under Comegy.
JSU's worse off now than it was under Comegy; Bama State's not proven to be a major threat as it was under Barlow; AAMU's worse off than it was under A.J. and Valley's worse off than it was under it's previous coach over the last two years.
So if 662 can say what he said, one can be on more firmer ground by saying the SWAC East is weaker now than it was two years ago.

It was time for a change. Harold Jackson was nowhere in the picture when we made the decision to fire Comegy. During the coaching search, there was a group of alumni with a lot of influence who hyped up Jackson. I think that has been well-documented on this board. Firing Comegy was the right decision. Hiring OMJ was the wrong decision.

Please provide an reasonable basis for the Comegy firing, one that is not centered around the level of competition in the Eastern division during that era.

Most of the reasoning behind Comegy firing has been stated in posts above. Folk just have a hard time comprehending. Or maybe just can't read lol.
