There is mystery surrounding the disappearance of a Clarksdale mayoral candidate after a car crash.

Coahoma County Sheriff's deputies are looking for Marco McMillian. His car was involved in an accident around 8:30 Tuesday morning on Highway 49 South, close to the Coahoma County, Tallahatchie County line.

But, deputies say McMillian wasn't driving his car. The person who was driving, as well as the driver of the other car involved, were both taken to area hospitals. The driver of McMillian's car was airlifted to The MED, the other driver has since been released.

A source close to the investigation told ABC 24 News that McMillian may have known the person who was driving his vehicle at the time of the accident, and that investigators are concerned for McMillian's welfare.

Special Tidbit: Here are the facts as they are known to us at this time : There was an auto accident in Tallahatchie County this morning in front of or near the private prison. Two people were airlifted to the Med in Memphis as a result of this accident.


One of the accident victims, while at the Med, allegedly confessed to the strangulation and murder of Clarksdale Mayoral candidate Marco McMillian. McMillian has been missing since last night. The confessor also told authorities that he dumped McMillian’s body in a ditch off of Highway 6 in Quitman County.

Law enforcement authorities were searching for the body when this was written.

We will have more when it unfolds.

The above link is just a blog...the authorities haven't officially released that information but the word on the street is his body has been found.

I remember him. He was a cool dude, he was out of the state working on his education and Jennings was still paying him thus the controversy...

It is going to be. Man I was in Buckhead this summer and I seen a AMG Benz pull up next to a 750 BMW and a car full of them got out fighting at the light. Man that had to be the funniest stuff I have ever seen. The light turned green and they took off after each other. Man I laughed for days at that mess.

COAHOMA COUNTY, MS - (WMC-TV) - A body has been found in the area where Coahoma County law enforcement have been searching for a missing man.

Marco McMillian, 34, went missing after his car was involved in an accident near the Coahoma-Tallahatchie County line, Tuesday.

Police have been searching the area for Marco McMillian, 34, who could not be located Tuesday morning after his car was involved in a crash that sent two people to the hospital.

McMillian is a mayoral candidate out of Clarksdale, Mississippi.

Authorities have not yet said whether the body they found is that of Marco McMillian.

The county coroner is on the scene.

Action News 5's Michael Clark says the body was found about 10 to 15 miles west of Clarksdale.

The crime lab van has arrived on the scene and the Coahoma County search and rescue team has left.

Additionally, he garnered new partnerships with organizations including City Year, Nationwide Insurance, the United States Marine Corps, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as the National Council of Negro Women. The sheriff's department declined to say whether Reed was the "person of interest" who was taken into custody or whether the action was taken in connection with McMillian's death or as a separate part of the accident investigation. The department said no further information would be immediately provided "due to the fact this is an ongoing investigation

McMillian — who was chief executive of MWM & Associates, a consultant to nonprofit organizations — was widely noted as one of the first openly gay candidates for public office in Mississippi.

His campaign spokesman, Jarod Keith, told the Clarion-Ledger newspaper of Jackson, Miss., that McMillian's sexuality was never an issue in the campaign.

Supposedly Lawrence Reed (the driver) confessed...I wonder why they are not releasing more details. I'm sure he gave a motive/reason as to why he killed Marco.
 
I am thinking Hate crime or relationship gone wrong. I just can't believe a cat bold enough to randomly kill someone would snitch on himself.
 
The thing now becomes who did he cross? Dude was not a street dude so this could come down to three things. A relationship thing :vomit:, hate crime or he crossed someone in this politics things the wrong way.

Those folks in his community can be ruthless. I know my brother was working a case one time where they threw one of their own out the car in Mid-town after they drug him up to die. He was cheating on his mate and they found out.

So what's the word coming out of Sippi? Everyone is speculating this way, but what is being said over there? Hate or relationship gone bad?

I just watched the latest news report on TV. The guy who wrecked the vehicle has been charged with murder but nothing else really has been released as far as possible motive.


My personal opinion: It's a hate crime. Either someone who didn't want a gay as mayor or race related.

I personally knew Marco (all of us crossed Sigma around the same time. He and 3 of my LBs are from Clarksdale) and he quickly rose rose through Sigma so I knew when I found out that he was running for mayor of Clarksdale that he was going try his hardest to fix Clarksdale which has basically become Memphis South.

Crime of passion! :shame: Dude tried to kill himself by ramming vehicle head on into traffic. Word is Marco had a side piece and broke it off with him the night he was killed. There are some other intangibles that are involved but require confirmation.
