Louisiana Votes To Split HS Football Playofffs

As the voucher system currently dictates, a private school would only get the MFP money for the child at the same amount the public school kid gets. Nobody's really talking about charter schools, which gets more in MFP per child than regular public schools.

Yeap, I can think of a school in BR that is taking full advantage. The charter schools in BR have no attendance zones and can accept students from all over the city and surrounding parishes. Madison Prep pretty much has a basketball factory going on right now.

And Madison Prep better have all of their ducks in a row before they do something to get kicked out of the LHSAA and the state department of education sanctions them for school performance.

I covered a charter school's final days, and the only ones that really lose are the students.

Oh ok. I wondered if there was a cap.

Man they are 12 years too late. We would have had a championship in 2001 if not for that darn 4A private school in the New Orleans area.

RIGHT!

OAN. Howell should have had Allen in the gun that day vs under center. But that's another story.

A lot of times what kills y'alls beloved public schools against the Curtises and Evangels of the world are execution and discipline.

First, I agree that ND was better coached and had more disciple and that was a key to them winning, They are real good at winning like that. Their style evens out some of the athletic differences. I also agree with your statement "The color of players has nothing to do with ND football prowess".

But your statement about the parish being 98% white is just WRONG, I repeat WRONG. Acadia Parish is 67% white and 33% black, which is the same at the entire state. They have black athletes available, but they ain't trying to get them.

Now let me elaborate on the point. First John Curtis is recruiting the elite black athlete, which in itself requires work and money, and then they are recruiting against other white Catholic schools in New Orleans that have money also (like Rummel, Brother Martin, Shaw. etc) in addition to the public schools, but they can get kids from all over New Orleans. Now lets take Clinton, it is actually 40% white, but where are the white kids in Clinton?, at Sillman Institute (about 0.2 miles from Clinton High School), You may have never heard of Sillman, because they don't even play in the LHSAA, they play in the MAIS (Mississippi Association of Independent Schools). Most of those white private schools in that area of the state won't play black schools or even be in an association with them. They would rather go to Mississippi and play. But the point is they are not zoned and can get kids from all over, just like ND does, and just like John Curtis does, but they don't have to spend the money/effort John Curtis does. And Sillman being almost all white has nothing to do with Clinton be all white (which it aint) no more that ND of Crowley being almost all white when Crowley IS NOT almost all white.

But I agree, they (ND) keeps a damn good, well disciplined team that wins. And unless EF steps its game up more, EF will have the better athletes and ND will probably kick they azz again this year, and some will be crying about a call here or there, or the refs or whatever.

Finally, a question, if you pick your nose with your own middle finger, won't you be flipping yourself the bird? Just asking??? LOL!!!!

And you are LIAR, I repeat a liar. You couldn't find where I posted Acadia parish is 98% white if your life depended on it. What I did say is the Catholic Parishes that the schools represent is 98% white. Even told you to find the distance between the three Catholic Parishes (even named them for you Saint Michael in Crowley, Saint Joseph in Rayne, and Saint Francis in Iota. ) and the Parish seat of Acadia but I'm pretty sure you couldn't figure it out otherwise you wouldn't have posted this stupidity. Today, I added the city/towns where the Catholic Parishes are located because you're probably non Catholic but that is no excuse for not being able to distinguishing between the two different type of parishes because you've been living in LA for years. And quit trying to have a conversation about picking nose a grown man don't talk about that kind of stuff consistently unless he/it is a little fruity. I sure hope you're not trying to suck fingers and boogers.

Texas splits theirs. With the voucher program in Louisiana, they have basically gutted the public schools of their talent.

You do know the voucher program was found to be unconstitutional by the courts right?

I'm sure glad no one threw in the Purple Knights in this discussion.

You are saying this as if Catholic schools don't allow non-catholic students. LOL

I never said that it is what you assumed....LOL There is a radical difference in many instances between who attends Catholic schools (first and foremost the parishioners), the way they recruit, who is attracted to their product and the population of the city. If that was not the case St. Augustine would have somewhere in the neighborhood of 25% of their talent white. Holy Cross and Jesuit New Orleans would be predominately black.

Mississippi has always been split.

Private schools have their playoff and championship system and public schools have theirs. Mississippi just started allowing Public vs Private school football matchups about 4 years ago and that is on a select basis.

Schools like Jackson Prep and Jackson Academy who has about 10 Private school championships between them is about the size of a 3A Public school so you will rarely see them playing school in Jackson or school like Meridian, South Panola, madison Central, etc. Jackson Prep played Pearl (5A) 2 years ago and lost 33-9. Jackson Prep played Pearl this year and beat them 9-0.

Because they know what would happen if they did it on a regular basis  I do know that St. Joe (Greenville) plays and participates in the public schools playoffs despite being private but like you said it's rare.

And do you think Jindal is really going to allow that to stand?

The voucher system is not the reason private schools have been winning state titles. Being allowed to recruit and offer scholarships is your reason. The voucher system is not even a year old. It just started in Aug 2012 and it has already been ruled unconstitutional.

Like I said earlier, the push for more vouchers and charter schools is what was really making people jump this time. Private schools have always been recruiting and still the push wasn't strong enough to change things. But now with Jindal pushing these select schools, people saw that changed need to come fast.

He has no choice. The state judge they thought was on their side messed it up for them. Now that the new Louisiana Supreme Court Chief Justice has been determined who happens to be a black female from New Orleans, they can forget about applealing that. He had to find another funding source of which the Bill Gates Foundation quickly came to the rescue.

In the middle of the season. The damage had already been done.

Well if more people would have been more active when that bill was being discussed, maybe it wouldn't have never passed in the first place. People need to become more proactive rather than reactive.

Especially Black folks. Ever since the days of Brown v. the Board of Education where public schools were forced to desegregate, White Americans have tried their best to redirect tax dollars back into their communities and the voucher program was just another means of redirecting funds to mostly White private schools. Although most of the monies were being redirected to majority White private schools, things got ugly for those who supported Jindal's voucher program once a private Black school in Lincoln Parish and a Muslim school in Tangipahoa Parish seek to benefit. I'm sure that State judge had to make a decision on what he though was the lesser of the two evils.

Folks wanted to back away when the muslim school wanted in on the program. "Conservative Christians" started screaming they didn't want their tax dollars going to schools promoting Islam. Should have thought long and hard before supporting this voucher system.

I and about 1000 of my colleagues tried, but they pretty much locked us out of the building during the discussions, and intimidated those that did actually get to speak on the bills.
