Your "ace" reporter Joe sure bashed you fans today. He exposed the Jaguar Nation is nothing but Catfish eatin', tailgatin' folks, RV driving people who run nothing but their mouths. Folks don't even donate a dollar to the same program they give up their weekends for.

Do you need some help? I remember that JSU guy donating a dollar for a piece of field do you want me to buy 2 pieces? That lawnmower looks nice doesn't it.

Hang in there bruh! I had been meaning to email you to give you props just for organizing this effort, website, and all.

Unfortunatly, this isn't just a problem at SU, because its the same at Gram also. I know first hand that when the call for alummi/fan support is needed (in terms of dollars) nobody can be found unless there is an immediate return on investment, such as Bayou Classic tickets or something like that.

It might seem somewhat of an embarrassment to have this posted in the paper, but look at it as a blessing instead. At least you have a local paper and beatwriter who at least appear to give a damn about even reporting it. I don't think the Monroe or Shreveport papers would have gone at of their way to report this something like this for us, and if they did, it wouldn't be in the form of an editorial.

I too am extremly involved in our alumni association, and it pisses me off to hear folk b!tch and moan about lack of facilities, or the way the administration is handling a certain situation. When the time comes to do something about it...they are nowher to be found.

Hang in there bruh, I hope it gets better for you.

I don't even know why we even entertain tbf, pf and now the blu panther. We all know of his hate for SU. We know it's just envy. PV don't have 78 alumni to donate ish to their program. Hell they can't fill 6,000 seat Blackshear unless it's their Homecoming and we know they are not there to see PV play.

SOG said it best, we all have the same issues when it comes to donating money.

So all smack aside please show me where PV alumni are donating at record rates to your athletic program. You talk a good game, but nobody is listening. Now go find you a new president or something and stop worrying about SU. We gonna make it. Just worry about Texas A&M making you TAMU@Prairie View. Oops, my bad you already are that.

I thought you worked in the media? Don't you see a marketing effort here or are you really that blind? In two months, not only SU folks, but OUR folks in general ain't bout to sink NO money into anything that they don't know anything about!!! It will take time and we know this. Right now, let us do our thang and ya'll go buy some dayum chicken!!!!

In my opinion, Thurman is going about this project in a non productive manner. You cannot attack the alumni and be very successful based on what I have read. Some folks will be surprised how much alums are donating to their universities and then they get attack for not supporting a this particular project. $100 may not sound like much, but some folks just get tired of all the request that are made by every department on campus.

It happens all the time.

I don't see any statement in the article that attacks the alumni... If any person perceives it that way, they probably were not planning to donate anyway.
 
People can be hesitant to give. People also can be skeptical. People can boast about their school, but when the time comes to pony up, they're nowhere to be found.


These are the type of statements, I hate.

What really bothers me is that people think that Black folks should respond just for the asking.

As a new group why take on a project this large? To me this should be part of the Athletic Budget taking care of the football field. Somethings were not meant for me to understand.
 
I have to disagree with you MD.

The upkeep of the field WOULD be a part of the athletic budget, IF there was truly an athletic budget (at least the way most of think one should be). Money is divyed up a little differently because of how the system is set up. I won't go into details here because ...it is the SMACK BOARD! Soooooo....if any of you want to discuss this intelligently, then THIS is not the place!!!

I asked TRU 3000 this question on the Sports Board: What method(s) are employed by AAMU to get your alums and community to donate TONS of money like you guys claim? Share it with us, because you are in an enviable and unique situation. Thurman did not attack the alumni and has been very well received. Thurman is EVERYWHERE all over the State and Nation working WITH the Alumni Association garnering support and donations. That is just a small sample on his efforts, so you should know the TOTAL picture before you make an offhanded put down like that even if this is the dayum Smack Board.

What the JAG is doing is not new. Outstide athletic groups exist at EVERY major university and they have LARGE budgets. They fund raise (millions of dollars) to buy equipment, add on and renovate stadiums and a myriad of other things for the athletic teams.

And BTW, this is not smack and I don't need a sponsor or enroll in summer school. So don't start that hsit.
 
How dare someone attack my alumni because of $100. I just don't understand how SU folks put up with this kind of junk year in and year out by their writer. Anyone with a brain can tell he is basically saying 'You average all these fans so why ain't they giving back crap'? He is basically calling you bandwagon fans.

Folks want to bash PV and their methods but we're slowly making a move. We dumped Hines so the next man in will ultimately have to support full allotment of 'ships in football. We're loading back up in basketball and baseball so we're doing the right thing. Not once did you see someone bashing the alumni through the troubed times.

To the person who says it is a blind marketing ploy, that is a sad way to attack the issue by calling fans out. Your buddies at LSU don't know crap about a lot of things but they sink their cash into it if it someds halfway decent. Sounds like you dont trust the folks handing the money.

SS, let me assure you that I understand. Many comments have been made about AAMU being small time. However, I remember them but at the same time I knew that those who were making them did not have a clue about what is going on at their university. All I know about Thruman is what I read in the article. In my opinion, I still think that this is too large of a issue for a newly created group. I hope he succeed, but the field cannot wait for people to make up their minds to support.

How did this article get in the newspaper? Somebody from what I can tell talked to a reporter. Was there a reason for doing it, you bet it was.

I hope this post has generated some interest in more than just a football field.

JD, I understand you, but don't read anything into what I am saying. If you think that Thurman can pull this off I will be the first to congratulate him.

I will not smack these kinds of issues.
 
I think JAG is coming along OK. I look for the biggest support to roll in during the fall. They took on an ambitious project which I think was good. I don't think Henry attacked anyone, but he lets people know what it's all about. <br><br>Hey Band Fan (or whatever you name is now),<br>It been a while, where you been. If you so damn smart, why don't you start a fundraiser at PV to buy a tent for your radio broadcast team to sit in, so they don't have to sit in the bleacher like regular fans anymore. What the hell do they do if it starts raining?

Going to SU was like the Vietnam War, if you survuved you will have a lot of horror stories to tell. I still wake up in the middle of night after those Benzene spill nightmares.
 
Is it therapeutic for you to consistenly stay in SU's business? Is it therapeutic to wake up and immediately read the Advocate?

In your heart of hearts, you have an underlying love for Southern University. ;)

Not my fault ol' boy is spitting off at the moith. I honestly like to know if he and the LSU writer get together and mouth off at times?
