THIS JUST IN ON WBRZ. SOUTHERN U WR MIKE HAYES HAS BEEN GIVEN HIS RED SHIRT YEAR BACK.THIS IS VERY GOOD NEWS FOR THIS KID.

I see someone noticed TSU's Lenard Mack received his sixth year so they went back and whined to the NCAA.

Hayes will notbe the same receiver he once was. Once he steps back on the field his mind will be on trying not to reinjure himself. Look at the track records of people with ACL injuries. TSU's James Wilhite hurt his ACL in 97, came back in 98 and hurt it again.

Green Bay's Robert Brooks was never the same receiver
Terrell Davis was alright but you can tell he is missing a spring in his step.

Look at PV's Burks (basketball). He seems to be missing that explosiveness he used to have. I just don't think he'll be quite the sam reciever he was before the injury.

your right, Burks will not drive to hole as often and he relies heavily on his jumper. The fear factor is in them.

But if they think a broken down Michael Hayes will secure a championship, so be it.

Remember hoop dreams? William Gates hurt his ACL and he was never the game.

As expected.....

Way to support the brother band fan. SMH. Do you not think we know there's a chance of him not being the same.
Why can't you just accept the news and move on, and what does this have to do with Mack.

Hating azz *****!

Don't even trip on TBF. He knows nothing about sports. Robert Brooks had more than just a knee injury that cut his career short. He had neck and back problems too. Rb's have always had trouble, but Terry Allen made it back. Jerry Rice made it back even after re-injuring his knee when he tried to come back to soon. Rod Woodson came back and won a ring years later and returned some ints to break a record for DBs. Both of those guys did it in their 30's. So if Hayes works out right he'll be okay. He was not a speed merchant anyway. His size will help him. Something you failed to mention that Brooks was only 5'10 or 5'11 and was a speed guy. He lost his best attribute. So that comparison is moot. Hayes is still 6'5, he didn't lose that.

PF, you hate SU so bad you can't even say good news for the brother to even having a chance to prove he can play for the NFL scouts next year. We are going to beat the hell out of PV anyway. With Hayes it will be be much worser. You turn the sports board into a smack board with your asinine comments. Give it a break bruh and say good luck to the man. I wish Mack at TxSU the same thing. I hope he has a hell of a year at TxSU makes it to the next level. SMH@PF as usual.

If my life was this miserable, then I would kill myself.
:smh:

I don't know anything about sports?

Our starting quarterback, Josh Barnes, hurt his ACL in 1997 at Southern University. He was one of the SWAC's most mobile quarterbacks and he never was the same after that.

I saw it with my own eyes

Dude Josh Barnes played QB. QB's need way more mobility than a WR. Come on PF, how can you compare him to Hayes. Plus Barnes was a little speed cat, dependent on his feet. He also is no Michael Hayes with incentive to go to the next level either. There have been many WRs to tear a knee in college and move on to the next level. Hayes ran a 4.6 at best. He is a Keyshawn Johnson type of WR that catches over people, but is not a burner. He is not a Randy Moss speed guy. So Hayes will be okay. His knee injury was not as bad as Jerry Rice's. Jerry was never a speed guy either, that's why along with his work ethic, he was able to have the season he had this past year. There is more to being a WR than having speed. Those are the guys who wash out when they get hurt.

If Hayes was 5'10 and had been a speed guy then I would say you are probably right about him. But since Hayes big plays came from his strength and size and not his speed. I am not worried. The fact he's going to be on the field will cause coaches to worry and if they think like you then they will pay. I am sure you hope he worries about his knee and plays scared. But Hayes will be hungry. He has that type of attitude you want in a player that has to come back from an injury. He will be ready. I also hope our opponents think all we need is Mike back. I am happy for him, but SU has some good WRs. That is the one position we are very loaded in. Hayes just adds to the mix. Just congratulate him and Mack on being able to have a chance to show the NFL next year that they are okay. It's a win-win situation for both schools and more importantly, the players who had so much NFL promise before the injuries.

JR, do this research for me.

Remember WR Yatil Green from Miami? He was great coming out of college but hurt the ACL during his first camp. Came back next year and hurt himself again. When he finally got healthy in year 3, he was a non-factor and is now a journeyman.

Sylvester Morris is another example. Before his ACL injury, he had the look of a star. Last season he did not show up like his rookie year.

I did not hate on Hayes, I've never said that. All I said is that don't expect him to play savior because he will be a marked man.

The article says he will not even step foot for a practice until the summer so I doubt he'll be much of a threat anyway. Time he comes around you all could be out of the picture.

Did Jerry Rice tear his ACL? I don't remember that.

Why doesn't Troy Williams come back? Sitting out for academics is not good enough?

PF,
Yatil Green was also a speed guy. He also was not all that great at Miami. He was drafted to stretch the field. Green was one of those WRs that people said could be a bust even before injury. So I wouldn't compare him to anybody. I remember people thinking Jimmy Johnson was taking a risk drafting him over other WRs that year.

Now I know you aint that young to remember a few years ago when Jerry Rice got hurt against Tampa Bay and tore his knee up. Then he came back for the last game (MNF against Denver) that same year defying the odds to return so fast. Well he caught a TD and got sandwiched between two players and broke his knee cap on the same knee requiring more surgery. That has not been but about 3 years ago. 98 or 99. People thought Jerry was done due to his age and the nature of the injuries. Jerry just had a Pro Bowl year with the Raiders. Over 1000yds again 9tds. Same numbers Tim Brown had.

How can you even talk about Sly Morris. So he got hurt last year. This will be his first year back after the injury. I mean he got hurt in training camp last year. Give the dude a chance to get back on the field. Everybody doesn't flop. Jimmy Smith came back from career threating injuries to be an All- Pro. Ask Garrison Hearst who had injuries in college and the NFL and he is the 2 time comeback player of the year. Priest Holmes got hurt at UT and missed a year and when he came back Ricky Williams and Shon Mitchell had stepped up and he was relegated to being a spot player. But look at him now. NFL rushing champ.

SU is not looking for Hayes to be a savior, but as I said he will cause opposing coaches to wonder if they should play him like is still the man or ignore him and take the chance that he can't play no more. So it is a bonus for us. Now we have all the WRs that were supposed to play last year back except Devin Lewis and Gallien. Plus the heralded Freshman from BR James Vernon who is a speed guy and is not a smurf-sized WR. So you if try to just mark Hayes as the man to get rid of. You may just make a star out of one the other players. Hayes doesn't need spring practice. He'll be ready for the "real" practice in the summer. You know even the big PWC's don't chance their players who have been banged up in the Fall in some spring practices. It isn't that crucial. He has plenty of time to be ready. Hell, even redshirts who had to sit out at any school can't practice in the spring. They have to wait.

Your question about Troy Williams , well you answered it yourself. His first redshirt was not due to medical reasons, so he got denied. It wasn't like SU and Troy didn't try. Ask the NCAA about that rule. Apparantly Mike was medically reshirted at LSU so he became eligible under the rules once SU got the info from LSU to submit.

IM GLAD TO SEE HAYES BACK. IT WON'T MATTER AT ALL FOR SOUTHERN. HE WILL BE GOOD AGAINST THE WEAKER TEAMS LATE IN THE SEASON.THE FIRST COUPLE OF GAMES MIGHT BE HARD FOR HIM.AN ACL IS NOT A SPRAINED ANKLE.IT TAKES MONTHS MAYBE A YEAR TO HEAL. NO MATTER HE'LL HAVE TIME AFTER LATE NOVEMBER TO HEAL UP.I WISH HIM THE BEST.

TPF

You not mad huh bruh?:emlaugh:

Everybody,<BR>
I wouldn't even worry about TPF , it's apparent that he's upset that SU (and anybody else in the SWAC for that matter) and Michael Hayes at 50% could beat PV at full strenth!:p

But TPF, keep hope alive!

:D

It's only right that Hayes gets another year back. The year that he red-shirted at LSU was a medical redshirt (at least it's the official spin given to the NCAA). I think that's commendable of LSU to provide the documentation that the kid was redshirted as a freshman. I say this because I talked with an SU assistant coach last week and he told me that LSU contacted Pete and told him that they could provide paperwork supporting that the redshirt year he received from LSU was due to an injury.

I see this as a positive, not only for SU and the SWAC, but mostly for Michael Hayes. As it stands now, he had virtually no shot at making the NFL (unless a team was willing to "stash" him for a year and allow him to heal). Now he gets a chance to hopefully get his degree and complete his senior year of competition.

Understand me well, I ain't no jaguar fan or sympathizer. I want to beat yall worserthan Ike beat Tina... BUT, I have love for any youth that wants to attend one of my schools and get his education. If Hayes gets his degree, any thing else is Lagniappe
(that's gravy in La)!

This is exactly how ALL of us should feel!

I want to beat everybody on the field, court, track, course, alley, whatever...

But the bottom line is the education of young Black men and women and the chance at life's opportunities. Although I was cheering my for SU to win in 1994 (my godson was the QB), up in Lorman, I had to raise my azz up off the seat and let it laugh, because it (WE!) were happy to be there to witness the greatness of Steve "Air" McNair and I went on the field and shook his hand and wished him well in the NFL. Grambling beat us like we stole hams from the A & P in the 70s and I hated every loss (until '79 :D ), but no one was prouder when Doug Williams was the MVP in the SuperBowl game.

I could care less what TBF says and thinks about SU, but when we cannot support an individual student at one of the HBCUs whose career was in jeopardy, and put scoreboard and smack in the proper perspective, then I know that person has problems that should be addressed with psychotheraputic drugs and intensive in-patient treatment.

Good luck and Godspeed to Mike and to TxSU's Leonard Mack.

"Let the people say...........Amen."

Hayes will be fine once he gets pass the mental part. BTW, Sly Morris didn't return after he tore his ACL. This will be his first action since tearing it.

TPF, got yo azz booted again huh?

I don't know why we waste our time....anyway, CONGRATS to Mr. Hayes and SU.

ROTF @ such patheticness.......:smh:

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

READ MY SIG.....

I might be the devil in your eyes so be it.

All I said Hayes will be a step or 2 slower. If he is does not produce fast enough like you want I do not want to hear anyone on the board dogging him out like you did Jacoby and friends.

Seeing Spots, stick to the law school smack. Worry about Andrea Yates' personality instead of mine.

Just stop it Ryan. Enough is enough. Hayes will be okay. How fast do you have to be to catch the ball? It's not like SWAC is full of dbs that are over 6'2 and all run 4.2's. PV sure doesn't have them. Hayes will not be rushed, there are other WRs that play. He doesn't need to carry the load. BTW, I don't recall Jacoby being hurt and coming back. So what's your point? SU fans are happy for Mike and would be sad for him if he can't play well and make it to the NFL. No one in the Jag Nation is going to be berating him if he has difficulty. Come on and use common sense. So just say you wish him well or take your comments elsewhere. I don't even understand your logic. For all you know Hayes may be faster now. Not all have come back slower. Man do your homework on Football. You didn't even know Rice tore his knee up. SMH

Damn just wait until next year, you act like the season starts tomorrow. Besides us having Hayes won't change the fact that we will beat yall. Have a coke and a smile:D and have a nice day.
