Southern might not be going to the Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball tournament, but the tournament could be coming to Southern.

The Jaguars have an uphill climb to qualify for the tournament that starts May 14, but the conference appears to have a steeper climb in convincing the league’s coaches to bring their teams to LaGraves Field in Fort Worth, Texas, which was the site of the 2013 SWAC tournament.

Southern athletic director William Broussard said several coaches have expressed concern with the condition of the field to SWAC officials. With less than three weeks until the tournament, the conference figures to have limited options for an alternate site.

smh Once again! They move it because they were talking about home field advantage for SU, and we weren't guarenteed to win it every time now the coaches who decided to move it from BR, are complaining about the playing field in Forth Worth. Okay, I wish they would shut up and stop complaining. Either have it in BR, Forth Worth or Houston.

Move it to Birmingham! The new downtown park won't have these problems.

The coaches arn't asking to move it to BR, Su is saying that it is available if needed.

Which stadium, hope it's not the one by the projects lol. After what happened last time :smh: , I know they can't be considering that place.

Birmingham just built a 64 million dollar downtown baseball stadium.. btw nothing happened at the old location that hasnt happened on SU's campus during gameday.

Why not have it at where the Astros play? There have been HBCU games there before. Have to check the dates, though.

the highest attended tournaments have been in BR. Fact. Talking to parents from different schools in the West, they were highly upset it left BR.

The Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball tournament will be played at either Lee-Hines Field on the Southern campus or at the MLB Youth Academy in New Orleans.

Grambling coach James Cooper, chairman of the SWAC coaches committee, confirmed the potential sites after his team’s 16-7 victory against Southern on Sunday at Lee-Hines Filed.

Cooper visited LaGraves Field in Fort Worth, Texas, the planned site for the tournament, last week and said Sunday that there are safety issues that can’t be resolved in time for the tournament, which begins May 14. Those concerns include an uneven playing surface, nails sticking out of the outfield fence and a lack of drainage in the dugouts.

Please tell me when we have had gang shootouts during baseball games on our campus? And the 1 shooting you are referencing was between a security guard and another person that had nothing to do with SU nor did it even affect what was going on in the stadium.

Thank you! Which is why they stopped teens or whoever from walking around the stadium during games. If you aren't coming in you better walk your azz down Swan or over that hump and near the area.
