EW YORK (WTW) — Jeremy Lin outplayed Kobe Bryant, ended the mighty Lakers' dominance of the Knicks and then tried to pretend it was just another game.

Wrong.

This was the night that proved he's no one-week wonder, that he's got a real NBA career ahead of him.

After all, Kobe's waiting for revenge next season.

Lin had the most astounding performance of his remarkable week, scoring a career-high 38 points and outdueling Bryant as New York held off the Los Angeles Lakers 92-85 on Friday night.

Buried deep on the bench a little more than a week ago, Lin led the Knicks to their fourth straight win, tying their longest streak of the season. His two free throws with 52 seconds left amid booming "MVP! MVP!" chants stopped the Lakers' final rally and allowed the undrafted Harvard product to pass Carmelo Anthony for the highest-scoring game by a Knicks player this season.
 
The Lakers had no answer defensively... Laker guards too old to stay in front of folk defensively!

Given where the knicks have been - why are you surprised that someone who has breathed life into the franchise is getting all of this attention playing good basketball in the media capital?
 
It's gonna be interesting when Melo comes back. Stoudamire I dont see as a problem because he can play off Lin like he did with Nash. Melo is a ball hog. He needs to check that ego at the door and see how much everyone has improved playing with Lin instead of just standing around watching him shoot the ball.

Because in the past folks would wait, especially in New York, until a cat has proven himself over time before printing up adoring shirts, and buying his jerseys. Lin has started four games and the New York Knicks website already created a special mobile app for him.

Its been a loooooooooooooooooooooong time since knick fans have had anything to cheer about. Now throw in the asian / harvard thing - you have a new fan base coming to the game

By a long time you mean since the Knicks acquired Carmelo Anthony and made the postseason last year for the first time since 2004?

Aside from that Knicks fans have had nothing to cheer about before Lin got there.

New York Knicks fans are glad they are winning and have a media star.

I am not a big fan of the NBA - so it drew my attention and many of us that are on the NBA fringe to have someone from Harvard and of Asian decent playing in the NBA. If you like the NBA, its good for the industry. I watched the game Friday night because of him and I am sure the ratings were good - it was also shown in China.

For many fans they are glad to see the little guy do well. Its very American to support the little guy.

I'll bet MONEY he would have sucked with the Rockets if Houston never waived him. Athletes tend to find success AFTER they leave Houston for some reason. :shame:
 
We never know when we will be given an opportunity to fly. Once we are flying we don't know how long the flight will last, but we must learn to enjoy the journey.

He was already a cult hero after clwoing John Wall in a game prior to last season. He was already a story because of the racist name calling he got while playing other college teams at Harvard. He is gettign a name because so many teams passed on him including Houston, Dallas and even the Warriors who dumped him after last season.

RIght now the league is looking for players that fans will like after so many have or started souring on certain players for thie antics (and I am not talking Lequitter either). Ming is gone and they need someone to attract the Asian fanbase back.

Because if he outlasts some of hte guy drafted ahead him-it's a feel good story.
 
Pat Fitzgerald learned a quick and harsh lesson this weekend about what not to say on Twitter. Fitzgerald, the head coach at Northwestern, was watching New York Knicks' sensation Jeremy Lin throw down a career-high 38 points against Kobe and the Lakers on Saturday and decided to comment on the former Harvard player on Twitter.
Bad idea.

What may have seemed like an innocuous compliment to Lin, the Asian-American player who has certainly become the toast of New York, drew the ire of many NBA fans, who proclaimed Fitzgerald to be a racist among other things. Fans also took issue with the perceived diss of Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose, who is widely considered one of the hardest working players in the NBA and one of the overall good guys in the league.
Of course, the tweet was taken down after the backlash started, but thanks to several retweets, and a grab by ESPN, Fitzgerald can't exactly hide from his uninformed generalization of the NBA and its players.
