Lil Wayne pleads guilty to gun charge

NEW YORK — The Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to attempted weapon possession on Thursday, and expects to receive a one-year jail sentence.

He previously had pleaded not guilty to illegal gun possession charges that carried at least 3 1/2 years in prison upon conviction.

Lil Wayne remains free on bail while awaiting his February sentencing. The somber-looking rapper did not speak as he left court.

Police said a gun was found on his tour bus in Manhattan in 2007.

The rapper, born Dwayne Carter, won last year’s best rap solo performance Grammy for “A Milli.†His albums include “Tha Carter,†“Tha Carter II†and “Tha Carter III.â€

His trial had been due to start Jan. 20. The judge had been holding a hearing on a debated DNA profiling technique used to tie the rapper to the gun.

Plaxico could have done the same and got the same time as Lil Wayne, but he turned it down, that's why he got more time.

Plaxico could have done the same and got the same time as Lil Wayne, but he turned it down, that's why he got more time.

Plax did not get any offers other than the 2 year offer. DA confirmed that after some tabloid reported something else.

Yeah but what else would they have tried to get him on?

I wouldn't want this to go to a trial-no way on Earth would I TRUST my fate to a jury or a judge-who might hate rap or view me as everything that is wrong with our society.

What hotshot lawyer would try to use this to jump up in the ranks as the guy that got Weezy put away for 5-20 years instead of 1 year.

Do that one year and stay out of trouble because they will try to get him again and again and again. We all know that.

Plax did get less time than he would have if he had gone to trial. They just gave him more than Lil Wayne.
