Wow, what's wrong with Memphis?
I like Memphis, granted I always stay at those white folk hotel The Peabody w/ the ducks, near the bball arena, etc and everything I wanted to see, eat, and visit was w/in walking distance. The police made sure no riff raff came close to downtown. No desire to visit any hood close, unless I had an abrams tank.Wow, what's wrong with Memphis?

Bingo! From an outsider looking in, the systemic racism coming out of the Tennessee state legislature certainly isn’t conducive in maximizing Memphis’ potential. If Memphis has poor city/county leadership, I suspect it’s compounded by the sick state legislature. But what do I know….
While there is a lot that could be listed but to a certain political party this is the reason.
The racial makeup of the city was 63.33% African American, 29.39% White, 1.46% Asian American, 1.57% Native American, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 1.45% from other races, and 1.04% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino people of any race were 6.49% of the population.
Nashville
White 79.5%
Now one would have to ask why was the team not placed there in the first place? Especially since income is higher there versus Memphis.
However more sports teams are in Memphis.
Nashville always had the country western thing going for them and Memphis had jazz -
Memphis has Memphis and Le-Moyne Owen
Nashville has Vanderbilt and Tennessee State
race is major - we know that but what was the single moment that put one ahead of the other?
People said Birmingham during the civil rights movement allowed Atlanta to take advantage
Even though both are democratic cities, Nashville's black population is 53–55% White, 25% Black or African American, 14% Hispanic or Latino, and 3.5% Asian residents.Nashville has Fisk, Meharry, Tennessee State, Vandy, Belmont, Lipscomb and Travecca (I never been to or even seen Travecca but it is a D2 school)…. BTW … Nashville is a Democratic ran city just like Memphis. Not sure why the Memphis folks online have been pointing out that Memphis is a democratic city in a Republican state. Nashville has a democrat mayor also.
You apparently know a lot. There is a pattern in several states where you see the same thing. Kick people in the leg, then blame them for limping. These folks know what they're doing, and the LeBrons of the world act like they have no clue. From an outsider looking in, the systemic racism coming out of the Tennessee state legislature certainly isn’t conducive in maximizing Memphis’ potential.
