That's a lot of qualifiers, and that statement is applicable to a lot of guys throughout the league's history. I still agree he is a great player who would've been great in any era, but let's not exaggerate.

Lebron is probably the most gifted SF I have seen. He would stop himself. LOL. Had he come out during that era and played with more mentally tough players. He may have ended up being the GOAT. I like Lebron. Hell I like Durant. Just need Durant to gain some weight and go to the rim a little more. But to answer your question, the only SF I could see giving him a hard time defensively would be Marques Johnson in his prime. He had a power forward body.

If anything it would be easier for Charles now because there aren't a lot of PFs with post games. In the 2008 Olympics, the Redeem Team, with some of the best bigs in the league, couldn't stop Luis Scola and Pau Gasol, but you're saying Barkley wouldn't dominate now?

I'm not exaggerating. LeBron is a great defensive player. Has been for while. We've all seen him in recent years in the postseason shutdown or limit the likes of Paul Pierce, Derrick Rose and Carmelo Anthony when he's been asked to guard those players. In Cleveland, just like in Miami, has been asked during stretches of games or over a period of them to guard all five positions. And he holds his own for the most part.

Nique never stopped anyone. He didn't play much defense. LOL

Malone... welll he's a traditional power forward who I've never seen defend a SF.

That's not all 5 positions. Has he guarded Chandler, Howard, Bynum, Yao? Has he guarded Duncan or Love?

Why not? He had great body control and he could leap out the gym in his prime. He actually played against bigger and stronger power forwards than are out there now. Most of these PF are really small forwards in power forward bodies that like to play on the perimeter. Who are really dominate POWER Forwards nowadays? Pau Gasol? Chris Bosh? KG don't even like to bang like he used to. Don't blame him. Dennis Rodman and Barkley still would out rebound folks even though they were not 6'10. Hell Rondo is a rebounding mofo at PG. LOL.

If Charles Barkley played in TODAY's NBA in the paint with his attitude on the court, he would kill these mofos and I HATED Barkley as a player.

Do you know what it took to get a foul down low during Barkleys playing days?
You had to basically kill someone down low to get a foul. Today if you reach out and touch a person down low going to the hoop, you run the risk of gett a FLAGRANT 1 or 2. I have seen Micheal Cooper, Kurt Rambis, Barkley, Oakley, Pippin, etc, get put in the 1st row of seats and all they got for it was a helping hand back onto the court. Back then, that was called a simple technical foul.

Pippin got put up in the stands so much by DETROIT and New York, that fool got migrain headaches from it. Barkley would foul ot one of these 2012 teams front line in less than 2 qtrs. :lol:

Shooting............. These mofos today can't shoot. 15 for 35 is a good night for these mofos.

I would love to see Larry Bird play in todays NBA without handchecking and jersey pulling. Leave Larry Bird, Magic, Byron Scott, Danny Ange, Terry Porter, Hakim tha Dream, John Starks, etc., free to shoot from the outside and nobody can touch them. They would end each game with 60 points each. :lol:

You exaggerated. He's a great defender and he can defend PGs, SGs, SFs, and some bigs, but saying he can defend all 5 positions is a stretch, especially in the greater context of different eras, which was what the thread is about.

I'll give you Pippen, but then again you're getting into the 90s with him.

Don't act like they didn't call fouls back then. LOL They just didn't suspend players for them and they called less flagrants.

But yeah Barkley would handle business now with his strength and leaping ability.

I remember a game this season where he guarded Dwight Howard for a couple of possessions. Also he guarded Pau Gasol this season when the Spaniard switched to the five during Bynum's in-game rest periods. In Cleveland, there were games where he had to check Marc Gasol, and Tyson Chandler when he played for the Hornets.

You know dang well that TODAY, you can't even look at a player hard without some type of foul. All I'm saying is back then, you had to shoot with a mofo hanging all over you. HELL............ You had to get FREE to shoot with a mofo hanging all over you. HANDCHECKING. A player would damm near have to put his jersey back on after each jump shot the way they allowed defense to be played back then and through the mid 1990's. :lol:

Could LeBron guard the centers of the 80s and 90s. No, he couldn't because they were bigger and more skilled. Can he do it in this era? Yes, because there are not a lot of great post players these days.

Rose is bigger than them and he would have gotten to rim on those guys. But in that era, he would have been laid out on the floor when he got there. LOL. Now the guy who would have locked him down was a young Dennis Johnson or a Gary Payton in his prime. Even a young Sidney Moncrief.
