Landrieu Will Not Lift Hold On Budget Director Despite End Of Drilling Moratorium

Last month, Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) announced that she would be blocking “the nomination of Office of Management and Budget [OMB] director Jack Lew until the Obama administration lifts its deepwater drilling moratorium,” singlehandedly hobbling the OMB.

Today, the Obama administration announced that it will be ending its deepwater drilling moratorium. “The policy position that we are articulating today is that we are open for business,” Interior Secretary Ken Salazar told reporters at a news conference. Yet Landrieu said in a statement today that she still refuses to lift her hold on Lew’s nomination, and will continue to “evaluate if today’s lifting of the moratorium is actually putting people back to work” and “whether or not drilling activity in both shallow and deep water is resuming” over the next month before making a decision

That is what Mary Landrieu said when she and Cleo Fields were running for that senate seat a few years back. That is a big problem to me. But I do want you to tell me in six months what is different about New Orleans than before and be specific with no political spin. I am very curious to hear your answer.

I know I am very late but I didn't title this thread what I titled it as to celebrate Mitch's victory. Because in actuality I was quite embarrassed that an overwhelmingly black city is now almost competently ran by whites and there are negros in New Orleans who figure black politicians can't do anything for them. Guess what Mitch is coming up on 1 year and things in New Orleans are pretty terrible right now and crime is off the charts.

Blame that on the black N.O. Pols who keep finding ways to muck up. Not just them. Louisiana is the dirtiest political state in that nation.

I assume you are a life long resident as I am of New Orleans. I am not the one that says white leadership is what we "NEED".. but over my 33 years here in this city ran mostly by blacks, what "good" have come out of it? Except the good of the blacks in charge family members?
You and I both know ain't nothing a Mayor or a Police chief can do about the state of these youngsters minds. The best new leadership can do is target the youth so that the FUTURE teenagers have a different mindset.

You answered your own question. Why do you think the turnout was so low? Is it because those same black have not realized the importance of their right to vote. I'm not saying Mitch is the savior, but he was the best option and people wanted change.

I am curious. Who is better or worse for Black people, the New Orleans mayor or his sister? This maybe a better question. Which one takes Black voters for granted more?

Cliche reply on your part.

I never said or even implied that the 32 years of black leadership was picture perfect. Hell if you compare Dutch Morial to Maynard Jackson it's no competition, Maynard wins and wins in very convincing fashion. I already know what the problems in this city are. When you are last or second to last in education and you lose all of your college graduates this is what happens. New Orleans is the farm system of the world (if you understand baseball you'll understand what that means).

What question did I ask, I remember replying to bigmanofds because he assumed that I titled this thread to celebrate the fact that we have white mayor. When that wasn't what I was doing. I was actually taking the title from a WWL article. Turn out is low because turn out in all elections that don't include Barack Obama are gonna be low and when you ask people why they don't vote they reply is because all politicians are the same and the whole process is BS.

Regarding Mitch nearly one year later, I still see Nagin and Riley being blamed for damn near everything. I'm not holding Nagin's water, but I do think that nearly one year into Mitch's first term it's time for some objective reporting on him. Something I don't see from WWL or the TP.

Mitch takes black voters for granted more.
Mary is the last state-wide democrat left in Louisiana, if Mary wants to go back to Washington she is either gonna have to really grab black people's attention or tout to whites how much of a conservative democrat she is.
