UPDATE 5:37 P.M. FROM ASSOCIATED PRESS

Gov. Kathleen Blanco, whose popularity plummeted after two hurricanes devastated Louisiana during her first term, will not seek re-election, according to a letter written by Blanco and obtained by The Associated Press.

"Today, I am announcing that, after much thought and prayer, I have decided not to seek re-election as your governor," Blanco said in the letter, which was provided by a source in the Democratic Party on condition of anonymity.

Her actions during Katrina forced me to question her Emergency Preparedness skills as a Governor. The states have authority in such situations. This is widely known in cases of such.

Oh ok. I wonder what governor would have done any better. Of course she let politics get in the way a few times between her and Nagin.

Having worked in policy with nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction all this governmental red tape that she was blowing was straight mess. She knew, along with the President of the United States how devastating this Hurricane was going to be. Why, because the Air Force had already flown Recon flights through the storm and rated it. Furthermore she knew from her State Police that citizens could be evacuated from the Mark Morial Center across the Bridge leading to that racist bastard of a Sheriff's parish.

She knew this because she flew over in a helicopter. Yet never made a phone call or landed and said let those people free. What individuals in my situation hate most, is someone who clearly lies to save face.

Bush lied to save face, and Blanco lied to save face for a political agenda that truly was not an agenda but a got damn wish.

WASHINGTON ? United States Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., released the following statement this evening regarding the announcement by Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco that she will not seek reelection.

Sen. Landrieu said:

?Kathleen Blanco has served as Governor during some of the most challenging times in our state?s history. I wish her and her family the very best as she completes the term and moves into private life next year. Her devotion to Louisiana has been unquestioned, and her efforts on behalf of our state have been marked by a sincere dedication to public service.

?Our state has a big agenda in the 110th Congress and all of us must continue to work together, regardless of politics or partisanship, to put our state and its people first.?

Well, not that she would have been a great threat to John Breaux becoming the next Louisiana governor but this certainly makes it easier on him. Louisiana's next governor will be John Breaux.

Furthermore she knew from her State Police that citizens could be evacuated from the Mark Morial Center across the Bridge leading to that racist bastard of a Sheriff's parish.

So she knew it was happening AS it happened? You sure about that?

I voted for her in the last election, but this decision doesn't surprise me. I've not been too terribly impressed with her performance, but like j4l said, what governor could be prepared for something like Katrina?

No one can be 100% prepared yet as Governor, no Sheriff should trump and force YOUR citizens not to enter a city when death is immenent if they stayed where they were.

As Governor, all she had to do was turn on television and ask one question:

How did the media get there? Find out how they got there and utilize the same route to get those people out NOW!

All she had to do was request REAL TIME satellite picture of the Marc Morial center in relation to possible evacuation routes, contact that Racist Sheriff, if he does not agree, trump him by forcing the State Police to act as well as the National Guard.

This is basic Emergency Response Prep. Training that ALL Governors recieve when taking office. In times of Emergencies they can request this information. Florida does it all the time.

Simply put politics and party lines played a role (a LARGE role) in the efforts to save lives.

OK man. She would have known to zoom in on the bridge and see the folks being blocked by the police at the exact time.

To your point YES.

With Imagery Analysis she could request it. I know people at the Defense Intelligence Agency that take Imagery Analysis pictures of the entire United States. Where do you think the before and after picture of KATRINA came from?

Also, when supplying evacuation routes imagery analysis is utilized. For instance here in DC imagery analysis is utilized to find high impact zones during rush hours in relation to car accidents.

Go to Mapquest and type in your address.

Also...look up these terms:

HUMINT
IMINT
GEOINT

Then holla at me.

In short all I am saying is that the United States did not utilize all of the tools in their power to properly analyze the Emergency Responses during KATRINA. Gov. Blanco lost her "balls" per se because she did not go deeper and push harder.

Blanco made the right decision.

You are right about that, and it's continuing to do so. Louisiana lost approximately 205,000 home and Mississippi lost approximately 61,000 homes. However FEMA just announced $400 million in alternative housing grants, $74 million to Louisiana, $281 million to Mississippi, and the remaining balance to Alabama. Please tell me how that makes any sense at all. Mississippi has a republican governor, and Louisiana has a democrat as governor. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize what's going on here.

Hey DSN, it's the Ernest "Dutch" Morial Convention Center, not the Marc Morial Center, no such building exist in New Orleans. Carry on with your disdain for Governor Blanco. lol

From what I've read, and heard, even before Breaux started publicly talking about running for governor, Blanco didn't have much of a chance of getting re-elected. At least now, if Breaux is allowed to run (if he clears up his residency issue's) Bobby Jindal doesn't look like the lock to win, like he looked before Breaux's name came up.

I know Blanco would've had a hard time getting votes in Orleans, St. Tammany, Jefferson, St. Bernard, Plaquemine, and the other New Olreans suburban river parish's, because of the way she handled Katrina, and to a lesser note, and on a much smaller scale, the situation with the Saints.

Some of you may not think the Saints thing is that big of a deal, but before Katrina hit, and word got out that she wasn't going to pay Benson the money that he, and Mike Foster agreed upon, she couldn't catch a break in the Greater New Orleans Metro area.

NICE

Thanks D-Nice...man I don't why ole Marc was on my mind. To your point of the Saints that was a primary concern. The Saints mean a lot to not only New Orleans but the State of Louisiana. Honestly, some of really don't really care if the basketball team leaves.
