L.C. Cole Rumor? (and look ASUers, no cheap shots please,,)

Bartram

Brand HBCUbian
,, look, before I ask yall this,, i'm going to give MASSIVE caviots because some of you are so dang wired up in this environment that someone is trying to, in some way, "get on ASU's case" that you always "lash out" as if under attack or something; especially if it's me for some reason.

That's not the case here. I simply have a friend who has no association with HBCUs(Troy State fan who I talk $hit with whenever they play ASU or FAMU,, etc, even though I went to TU/NCA&T.) ask me about ASU since I'm associated with Tuskegee/NCA&T(and pull for ASU against TSU when they have played), and I told her I didn't know and it was a suprise to me. She asked me the following: (keep in mind we are in the Troy/Montgomery area)

HER quote, NOT MINE:
"What are they trying to do with coach Cole? I heard them talking on the radio on the way home that he don't have a contract, but ASU is #1 in the SWAC. Have you heard anything about that? I thought they liked him and was doing good."

I told her I did not but would find out something shortly. I too am stunned at this, IF there is any credibility to the story. What's the deal?

I'm not suprised. Cole has always been a shady coach off the field. He got TennSU in trouble and is about AlaSU in trouble. Any college administrator worth a dime can't let that continue.

Hornetswarm, U R Classic! LOL!

Man, you remind me of the president at a press conference giving a "statement" and then being escorted out by the Secret Service! That was outstanding. So what you are saying is, there is no credibility to this at all and it's just rumors?

The fartest that the Cole Brothers are going away from ASU is to send some offensive ColeBlooded capabilities to the U.S. military to defeat the "Taliban".

Ok chief. Consider the matter closed.

Will forward said commentary to my associate. Thanks for the info.

Ahhh not so fast my friend.....

Bart,

I believe what your friend is referring to is a past article about Donald Watkins and when he was removed from the Board of Trustees. It mentioned that L.C. had not signed a contract and was lured there mainly because of the idea of ASU moving up to 1A. To that point Cole had not signed a contract. He may have signed one by now, but I havent seen any press to that effect. True he may not be leaving or even contemplating going anywhere (except to SCG III) but the lack of a signed agreement makes it easier to move. Hornetswarm, your silence is deafening....

BTW, Bartram are you MCP???

I often wonder how long will it be before Johnny Cole gets an offer to be a Head Coach. I'm sure he has aspirations to one day step out of big brother's shadow and do his thing.

Wondering if he is on the list of potentials at TxSU? I'm certain that Thomas is on the hot seat with the disappointing season that they have had over in Houston.

Umm.....

Well since yall talkin bout coaches, whats da deal wit Doug at Grambling. I keep hearing he's unhappy a lil'bit....and might be interested in going someplace else that'll give him what he wants e.g. better facilities, more football funding, etc.,.

I don't know if theres any truth to this, because Its hard picturing Doug leaving Gramb, after being passed the torch after Eddie.

Whattup wit dat?

Very Interesting Bengal E.

B E, that doesn't sound like a stretch. I do seem to recall L.C. Cole's move to ASU being bolstered by the prospect of Div I-A football.

I have no idea if he has a signed contract or not and wasn't following it or concerned, but a friend said she heard this on the radio which stunned me. I listen to sports talk radio virtually every day and I have heard nothing of this.

I would also have to say that the lack of ASUer weigh-in on this is puzzling, save for presidential takes from Hornetsworm. dude's like, ",,,,,, uuuh, yes,,,, theeeee, 2001 hornet season is progressing along fine, football players are dressing out for every game, we are 5-2, yes we play in Crampton Bowl for our home games,,, uuuh, OUT!!" ,,, i'm like, uh-yeah Hornetsworm, I know that, but what about my question?!

So there it is. Profound Attack Dog.

Oh my goodness. So looks like what my female friend was asking me about has some merit. Those two articles are almost verbatum what she was asking me about that she heard on the radio.

well, hopefully without having ASUers jump on me for getting into their business, I would have to say briefly, if I was ASU, I'd be doing whatever it takes to keep Coles, but if Coles has other ambitions, then what can you do? Just not a good situation for the stability of ASU football program.

With my parents having gone to ASU and having come up through the political battles in this state's turbulent political and racial history in the trenches with Joe Reed and Alvin Holmes, I have the utmost respect for what Joe Reed has done for the masses of unsuspecting Negros in this state and ASU, but i'm kinda feeling like it may be time for Joe Reed to relinquish some of his control over ASU especially in athletics. Sometimes you have got to take chances and be visionaries. That's the problem in this state in general. Birmingham didn't want to take economic development chances in the 60s and they have paid dearly for it. If Donald Watkins takes his idea elsewhere and it ends up working at another HBCU, this will be yet another chapter in Alabama's long history of being the origins of some idea (like Mardi Gras) only for it to go elsewhere to flurrish.

Well in his Post-game interview after the Classic on BET, L.C. spoke very candidly about the fact that he didn't have a contract and that he would probably have to do something else after the season is over.

Watching the Alabama State and Alabama A & M game, it caught me by surprise that the announcers went into the LC Cole issues on TV. That was the first I had heard about it.
