Uh Dude you obviously did watch film of West play. Cousy was no longer revelant when West was in his prime. Cousy retired in the early 60s and West was in his second or 3rd year in Cousy's last season. Bill Russell was the reason the Lakers could not win against the Celtics. Also your comment shows how much you don't know the history of the NBA. The Celtics had just as much talent as the Lakers then. Russell, Sam and KC Jones, Don Nelson, Havilicek was young, etc. To show you how cold Jerry West was. He was the Finals MVP in 69 and the Lakers lost. When have you ever seen that happen before in a NBA Finals.
BTW, the really show you that you have no clue. West averaged 29 points a game in all his playoffs games combined. Not to mention he average 40 points a game in the playoffs in the mid 60s. Dude you can't be a Lakers fan. Did you know Jerry West still has the Laker record for steals in a game? Or that he was first team all defense for 4 seasons even though they didn't start giving the award out until West's 9th year in the NBA? Are you aware that West made the NBA All-Star team every year he played in the NBA? All 14 years.
You my friend is the the one who is shady. Now go look up your Laker history since you claim to be such a fan of them. Jerry West was the truth.
Let's see, how many NBA teams were in the league in the late '60's? Only
14!
Panthro beat me to the punch, but I'll mention it any way.
How many African Americans were allowed to play back then? Hell, the ABA hadn't even merged with the NBA, yet you're comparing West's stats to Kobe's back in the good ole boy days of the NBA where the league was 70-80 percent white?
I hate to see grown men crumble and grovel under their own weight of hatred toward one man as much as you and lapdog alias topdog.
Kobe's the best player in the game today, hands down.
Players today are stronger, quicker, faster and better defensively than 99 percent of the players were in the '60's.
West's athleticism, leaping ability, passing ability, defense and offensive skills are no comparison to Kobe's. Even West will tell you that himself IF he's honest with himself.
West had Baylor, Chamberlain on his team, yet he couldn't get past the Celtics but once.
West played in NINE NBA championship games and how many of those did he win?.....
ONE!! 1-8 in NBA finals, and this with Chamberlain, Baylor, etc. Talk about the Buffalo Bills of the NBA.:smh:
Why I'm even debating this issue shows my stupidity in responding to such lunacy.
West is
the man when it comes to wheelin and dealin in the Laker's front office, but sayin his NBA game was better than Kobe's is the height of NBA trivia ignorance.:lecture:
