EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Lakers plan to decide soon whether Phil Jackson will be their coach next season, perhaps as early as Friday.

"The No. 1 priority for us right now is to resolve the coaching situation," general manager Mitch Kupchak said Thursday. "We would hope to have that addressed in a short period of time."

Speaking less than 48 hours after the Lakers were beaten by the Detroit Pistons in the NBA Finals, Kupchak also said the team will do whatever it takes to keep Kobe Bryant, and trading Shaquille O'Neal is a possibility if the star center demands it.

They are not going to trade Kobe. If he leaves, he leaves on his own, but they will not trade him.

1. Kiki Vanderweghe (sp-Denver's GM) ain't bout to let that happen and trade away a key part of Denver's nucleus of young players (Andre Miller, 'Melo, Nene and one more cat)
2. Kobe in Denver is like having George W. Bush in a mosque in Iraq with his middle fingers up...you ain't gon' see that.
3. The Lakers already have Devan George at the 3...they don't need Carmelo Anthony...sike :flippy:

We all know Kobe's ego could fill the Superdome for Bayou Classic, so it would be only natural for him to go back home to Philly (where he'll get booed and hear "He's A rapist" chants), to the Knicks or any really large-market team where he could shine and be on TV all the time like the lil white guy that hosts American Idol..(really, what's that guy's purpose)

I watched the Ben Wallace vignette they did during halftime of game 2 or 3 of the finals..I kinda got PO'ed when they didn't talk to him about the story of Charles Oakley spotting him at a camp and telling him to go play ball at Virginia Union like he did. I was hella surprised that Disney sports..i mean ABC/ESPN didn't find Oak and talk to him about meeting Mr. Wallace (you give someone as big as Ben Wallace all the respect in the world :winkgrin: ) and ask about what he saw in him...
(SIDE NOTE: Ben Wallace's story is just another modern example of why HBCUs are still needed)

I'm a die-hard laker fan, but I would definitely keep shaq and let Kobe ho ***** walk because ain't no guarantee that he is gonna beat that case, but if he did, i'd pack him up and send that arsehole to Orlando for T-Mac, and let Kobe watch the Lakers win a heap more championships, while he sitting there wondering what would have been if he had've calmed his ego down. Come on think about it, did Scottie ever say I want my own team? If I were winning championships I wouldn't have a problem playing with anybody. Think about it, u got a 7'1 300+lb center who draws double and triple teams, that opens up options for u. Kobe should have realized that in the Finals when they showed him what happens when u try to take on a WHOLE DEFENSE by yourself. That *****'s ego gonna write a check that his talent can't cash alone. And I LOVE the LAKERS, but I'm tired of that dude's ego.

First of all, if you knew anything about the Lakers, you'd know that Mitch Kupchak does what Jerry Buss tells him. He made that statement because Buss gave him the OK to say it. Everyone in L.A. knows that Mitch just has the title of GM, but Buss calls all of the shots. That is the reason why Jerry West is not there now.

Now, as far as this situation goes...it is a no-brainer. If you have to choose between a 32 year old Shaq (whose game is on the decline and whose best years are behind him), and a 25 year old Kobe who has yet to reach his peak... you have to go with Kobe. He is a better Value.

The children of Phil Jackson, two sons and two daughters, accompanied their father to his postgame news conference Tuesday night. Never one to miss a chance to make a social comment, Jackson said, "I always see the ballplayers bring their kids out so I thought, you know, I could bring my kids out."

However, Jackson had to know he was also bringing speculation into the room. Did he invite his children because this session would amount to a farewell of sorts for a coach who has been rumored......

Dude ................ First of all .............. I do know a LITTLE about the LAKERS.

1. Shaq was already warm because Kupchak -- through Buss -- had already said that there was a chance Phill would not be back after this year. This was said BEFORE the season started. Shaq made it known if Phill was forced out, HE WOULD NOT BE HAPPY.

2. Taking #1 into consideration, SHAQ and KUPCHAK has never been eye to eye on anything. Remember, 1 PERSON BOUGHT SHAQ TO L.A.---- JERRY WEST. It is known that WEST and MAGIC are SHAQ backers and KUPCHAK and BUSS are KOBE backers. Now that KUPCHAK -- or BUSS-- has made it known that they WANT THIS TO BE KOBE'S TEAM, YOU THINK SHAQ AIN'T GONNA TAKE THAT PERSONAL. HE DON'T LIKE THEM ANYWAY. THIS GIVES HIM THE PERFECT EXCUSE TO "JOB" KOBE, BUSS, AND KUPCHAK.

3. Shaq knows he don't need the LAKERS. Right now, every team from 4th place to first has put their DRAFT plans on hold until they see how the SHAQ factor pans out. ANY TOP 4 TEAM SHAQ GO TO BECOMES A LOCK FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP. :eek:

4. WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO PLAY AGAINST THIS MAN. There is no other player like him in or COMMING TO the NBA anytime soon. :what:

5. The only way SHAQ stay's is to put MAGIC in the GM position. Right now, SHAQ knows NOBODY pulling the strings -- GM & OWNER-- are in his corner. He ain't gonna sit for that. Kupchak dumb arse took a managable situation and made it impossiable. :shame:

BTW: Like I said --Kobe my boy --- but if he leaves, I could go after a Steve Franchise, T-MAC, V-Carter, etc. SHAQ leaves, WHO YOU GONNA GO AFTER that MAKES ANY DIFFERENCE............ NO BRAINER --SHAQ. :nod: :nod:

Ok,that explains your point about selling the Lakers. :rolleyes:

But I have to disagree with you about Kobe. If Kobe uderstood the game of basketball, then I would probally say keep him. But he does not. He constantly shoot the ball when there are none of his team mates under the goal;He very seldom look to the inside first. True his talents are great, but talent does not make difference if you don't understand strategy and advantages.

It's Jerry Buss team;that's his right to fugg it up if wants. Kobe will find out just like Allen Iverson that a guard that does not involve his team mates and especially the inside players, that you will not be successful.
