Hmm... We're going through something really similar right now this recruiting go-around.

Let’s take it one step further....we have to get coaches who can recruit, create quality coaching staffs, administrators willing to raise funds, get ADs to schedule teams that make the game competitive, and finally get a conference commissioner who is able to design a quality conference.

It's funny that you say this. Yet, I think about that kid out of Kentucky (Landon Board) who OPENLY stated that he wanted to play football at an HBCU. And got no takers. Instead he ends up at Middle Tennessee State.

Yeah, I guess he could have, but there is something to be said about going where you are wanted. It's no secret that he'd been given offers to walk on, but (from my understanding) he didn't even get a walk-on offer from an HBCU. Say what you will about talent in the state of Kentucky, but to be the state's all-time leading rusher and not get ONE offer?

The larger point is, many on this forum are the first to criticize a kid for overlooking an HBCU to go a PWI, but when we come across a kid like this...

I see what you're saying. I talked to the kid via social media. IDK why the kid didn't get a scholarship from an HBCU or an OVC school. Not even his "hometown" Murray State offered more than a walk-on role.

Yeah, it's a head scratcher. I've got a son who has expressed an interest in playing college ball, and after doing this for over 20-years, its amazing what I'm learning about the recruiting process that I NEVER knew. It is WORK. He knows about the Kentucky kid too. And he's knows that despite all of the work he's putting in, the Mrs. and I are putting in, NOTHING is guaranteed.

Until the kid sees the field at MTSU I won't be shocked he didn't get offers.

A. You gotta have SOME TALENT
B. It takes just 1 person to like you and offer
C. Preferred Walk-on (camp invites) slots are more political as in a lot of cases on campuses those spots are reserved for favors from folks
D. Core GPA matters
E. Some folks will receive offers just on "potential" and leave your head scratching

Yea I didn't know D-II teams can recruit my son and he is in the 9th grade. Also, my son gets his haircut with coaches and you can tell they want to talk to him but can't.

Concerning the "nothing is guaranteed" part, that is very true. My son wants to be a Marine Corp Officer then go in to Forensic Investigations. He has a cousin who is a Forensic Investigator in Houston but he went in the Army. As a parent I believe we must make sure our kids have Option 1, 2, 3, and sometimes 4, 5 and 6.
