I told a colleague how I had a strange feeling about J-State's game against Kentucky State. You guys probably didn't realize that Kentucky State has already beaten an FCS team this year. K-State beat Robert Morris earlier this season. So K-State wasn't afraid of Jackson State at all.

Correction, Alabama State had to come from behind to win the game. That doesn't say much for Bama State or the SWAC.

What it says, SWAC schools are paying coaches $200k to lose to coaches making $100k with supposedly less talent.
I think it's a little deeper than that. I'm going to address this point later this week.

IMO, and this is just my opinion, the entire HBCU football culture needs to be looked at. Not much has changed since the 70's.
No problem. I understand. But the issue I'm referring to is a SWAC issue. The MEAC isn't having this problem.

Other than NCA&T, they are not too far behind. I think Coach Broadway is the reason why A&T is like that, which is why I speak highly of him. He developed a culture in that program to be the most dominant HBCU football program. Before then, A&T was just another HBCU with a bottom to middle of the road football program. I think Hopkins somewhat did the same for Alcorn. There's nothing wrong with hiring and learning from others, as long as they are seriously willing to help while they are employed at our schools.

I don't deny Broadway turned that program around but the MEAC -- top to bottom -- is simply a better conference than the SWAC. Just this year alone the SWAC is 0-3 against the MEAC.

I don't doubt that, but they are really not that far ahead. Although we recently lost to FAMU, SU still has a substantial lead against MEAC schools in the past decade. We have yet to lose a MEAC/SWAC Challenge game.

Wow! They really had one completion and still won ... JSU really needs to do some soul searching this week. Football (& band) is the lifeline of the university so they can't afford to field teams like this.
