I promise this is not smack. It's a serious observation/question... Are people really supposed to take your site serious as a viable source for black college news with stories like this:

J-State?s 28-7 win over Texas Southern gives the Blue Bengals their first win of the season after losses to Tennessee State and ?Okra?.

We played Delta State, Tennessee State and Texas Southern so far this season. Jackson State has not played any games against a school named OKRA. That's just an observation. Come on dude, on your front page. It just says alot to me.

I'm sure this thread will be deleted.

I concur, I can see if it was a comment on the blog but when it is a feature story thats a bit shaky.

That's the whole point... Please tell me you understand that..... I mean Kenn Rashad is trying to pass TSPN off as the source of information for SWAC sports.... Atleast be impartial and professional in your delivery. ...

Had this been Southern ,would you be in an uproar over Kenns post or is this because it's JSU?
 
You've gotta' interject some humor into a serious situation I believe. I'm not a journalism major so don't jump all over me folx.

If you wanna' see something clever, check out A&T's fan site: bluedeathvalley.com. When they played PV, the feature story was something along the lines of <b>"A&T's kicking game self-destructs in 22-7 loss to Prairie View "</b> captioned w/ a cartoon pic of Charlie Brown hitting his bottom while attempting to kick the football and Lucy pulling the ball away as she traditionally does. I thought it was clever and captive. :tup:

Maybe Kennfolx was attempting the same. I don't think he'd slight JState w/ anything demeaning. :tdown:

You prolly would've done better to just PM him NT then all this extra attention w/ 1,000 opinions on the subject wouldn't be evident. :read:

That is a total b.s. question. If it were Southern, i probably would not have even made it to that part of the story, because I don't read the dayum stories anyway. I saw a JSU picture and read it. I, for one, have already made up my mind on TSPN, so i'm not really looking for REAL information on this site. THIS THREAD is an observation, though, for Kenn Rashad... kinda of a heads up so even more people won't get to where i am, which is... *skip that front page, clearly there's no real information there*. You feel me. Again, no smack.

But to ask if it was Southern.. is TOTALLY a non-issue.

I understand where you are coming from. But this is in response to what I believe are Mr. Rashad's efforts to really sell TSPN as a SOURCE FOR BLACK COLLEGE SPORTS INFO. So it's just a heads up to him, that if that's what you're aiming for then a story like this is probably not what you want on the front page of your site. I mean come on people OKRA?. There is no school named OKRA.. and if I were someone looking for SERIOUS information ... a REAL game story that would totally throw me for one and secondly it's clear SMACK. lol.

If the goal is to just be a lil bush-league site then it's okay, but i think here recently we've been given the idea that the site is going in a new direction, etc. So it just kinda threw me off...

and no i dont think i should have just "PMd him". It's a public issue for all forum members.

Exactly and lord knows not Grambling. It's not an issue of what school it is.

OKRA UNIVERSITY is not a school. period. It's a low-rate attempt at smack in what we're supposed to take as a serious news story.... give me a break. lol.

I mean, it's already bad enough you only write three line, use someone else's release and slap BY KENN RASHAD at the top.

Why wouldn't he? SU is his school's biggest rival? We had lost to DSU and it would have been on and popping on the board. LOL. I don't think Kenn has it in for JSU vs SU. I am sure he was trying to inject some humor. But I do understand that NT feels like it wasn't professional. So I can see both sides to it.
 
This is a legitimate issue that NT raised. It should be discussed in an open forum. I took offense with the "okra" comment as well.

I agree with NT this time. When I pulled up the site and seen the title of the story and seen "Okra," I just thought that was extremely unprofessional and unbecoming of a media source, much of which others outside of the conference view. It's all fun and games when it's in house, but we must uphold each other in the world view. It is of great disrespect to Jackson State University, the SWAC as a whole, and Delta State University.
However, this is your site and I'm not at liberty to say what is inappropriate and not. I hope we all make more wiser decisions.

Well, this is a public forum and it was not meant to be disrespectful to Mr. Rashad. I just stated what I believed to be true. I may smack all the other nine teams until the cows come home, but I'll never disrespect my conference with the state that it is in now. If we don't stand up for ourselves, who will?

Yall woulda been laughing out loud, and taking it for what it is - a good natured jab on a program that's made a few slip-ups over the past few years.

No man it was presented as a professional recap and it should have been written as such. It doesn't matter which school it is.
