jsu offensive coordinator suspended 5 days
jackson state offensive coordinator james woody has been suspended for five days without pay, the school announced today.
In a two-paragraph news release, the school said that woody was suspended by jsu coach rick comegy because of an “unspecified personnel issue.”
the release said woody will continue in his role as offensive coordinator, a position he has held the last three years, after the suspension ends.
Comegy and athletic director bob braddy were not immediately available for comment.
Woody did not attend a staff meeting on thursday, a day after a jackson tv station reported that he had been fired.
Comegy and braddy did not return numerous messages on thursday inquiring about woody’s status on the staff and woody, reached at his home on thursday night by the clarion-ledger would not comment.
Woody is the third-highest paid coach at jsu, making about $94,000 a year. Only comegy and men’s basketball coach tevester anderson make more.
Woody has worked as an offensive coordinator for comegy for 13 seasons, including stints at central state in ohio and tuskegee in alabama prior to comegy taking the jsu job for the 2006 season.

Pay the Johnny Come Lately no mind. If JSU is the joke, his school is the entire damn stand-up routine.
Woody would be under zero pressure if it wasn't for JSU's fan base because he had valid excuses last year. Freshman RBs and WRs and a young offensive line. But our fan base looked past that and watched the play-calling and it was :scared: :shame: in several games. That's why he is under pressure. I was fine with his announced dismissal. Can't blame us from responding to credible sources. But it is clear he is on thin ice and needs to improve or the hammer will fall.
