JSU's new coach

Don't judge Bell by his 1-9 record at Chavez. Chavez is a new school in the Houston area. Its student body is 75% (if not more) Hispanic, therefore most of the players on the team are Hispanic.

It is my understanding, Bell was not hired until late July or sometime in August. I have a friend who interviewed with Bell for an assistant coaching job at Chavez. He told me, he was very impress with Bell. He said Bell was very professional, seem to be very organized, and from just talking to Bell, he thought Bell knew what he was talking about as far as X's and O's.

My friend did not coach at Chavez this year. He was offered a coaching
position at another school before Bell offered him a position at Chavez. He took the job at the other school because he didn't want to wait on Bell and end up with no job at all.

I'm sure Bell didn't get a chance to put in his whole system at Chavez, due to being hired late, and finding quality assistant coaches (most of the coaches in the Houston area had already found coaching jobs elsewhere). Another reason could be, since most of the players at Chavez are Hispanic, there football experience is very limited.

I'm not saying Bell will be successful at J. State, but let's not judge him by his 1-9 record at Chavez.

I am not judging Bell by his HS record. It is proven that you can win 7 games a year if the name of your school is Jackson State University. Johnson worked magic on the defense and I am sure that he is going to make even more. I also expect him to work hard on the secondary. Bell is primarily a secondary coach, so I look for the defense to do well. All we need now is some discipline, common sense and creativity on the offense.

LOL! Man, the last time J-State had better talent than Icon Grambling was during the transition years. Since 2000, J-State has been grossly outcoached, but more importantly outmatched in both the trenches and at the skilled players (see the 2001 and 2002 All-SWAC selections). In 2001 and 2002, the talent gap was as big as the one between the U.S. and Europe. Now, J-State does have promise (I like the Fr WR that played well against us in Oct.), but overall J-State does not have the D-line or secondary play to compete with Grambling. Now GR, I try and call a spade an spade -- I think the biggest improvement for Icon Gram will be the O-line later this fall (we have some big time G-MEN tackles waiting on the block). All skilled positions on the offensive side of the ball are set (this crew will be even more impressive next year). My concern is the LBers on D. Nonetheless, Grambling will be the team to beat as it has always been.

Remember, Kent will never beat Grambling. Never.

Sup, Gram has a nice WR core, but its not better than JSUs. Chris Brown is a nice CB, thats about it as far as talent goes at GRambling. JSU is better than Gram at every other position. RB QB, Oline, LBs etc. With 6 teams scoreing 28 pionts or more on your porous defense, Im sure you wont brag on them. Gray on the dline is nice too, but you and I know thats about as far as it goes.

Precisely....

This is what I have been saying. Im not going by what somebody told me and this and that. Im going by what I have heard and I have talked to the man. You guys (JR) continue to thrive on what somebody told you that somebody told them. Then you throw your won wishful thinking and hate in the equation.

Was the process wrong? Yes. Is he going to do a good job? Yes. Coaching JSU is one of the easiest jobs in sports. Its like being Roy Jones' corner man. If Hughes could win 7 games and keep JSU afloat, we are now about to fly way above you guys that refuse to make improvements and are happy with just beating your rival.

Ummmm JR.... no offense, but please stop telling us what your "relatives in Jackson" are telling you. Either you are misquoting them, or they just don't know isht.

Actions speak louder than words. Bell didn't looked organized in that Westbury game.

BTW: The majority of his players were black, not latino.

OH MY GAWD.......
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Dont forget his cousin on the team and the one famous running back. Dont forget the cousin that told him that our defense would not be good this year.

One thing about me, I will NEVER tell a lie. I will ALWAYS tell the truth we it pertains to JSU football. If there is a weakness, I dont mind saying it. Hell what good does it do to lie.

Unlike the rest of the folks that stick up for wrong, I will never do that. I will never stick up for a coach that names a kid the starter before he ever practices. I wont do it. I will never stick up for a coach that blames the players for every loss and calls them out in the paper for breaking his car windows even though he doesnt know if they did it or not.

These people are fanatics with nothing that resembles integrity.

When you realize that JSU is not Chavez, you will stop making such statements. Didn't your school go 4-8 last year? The man has the background to bring good common sense coaching to Jackson. We won 7 games a year with a coach without a clue. No matter what you say, this dude is better than Hughes.

Dude,

Bell is going to win us SWAC Championships because he has the basic football knowledge that Hughes never had. We should be ten times more technically sound as a football team in 2003. Our AD is going to make sure the Bell is a success. I think Bell is a good choice.

It's 2003 and JSU is 2-5.

I wonder if my relatives knew what that were talking about now?

Looks like ole JRs friends and family members are alot more knowledgable about JSU than you thought. Only you new school cats don't understand. Them old heads were right on the money. Now you see.

Hmmmmm.......................interesting comments. I wonder if my sources knew what they were talking about. After Saturday, I may not have another relative who wants to play ball at JSU. At least not until the "Evil Spirit" is gone. TD Jakes send help.
