Jackson State legend Willie Richardson died on Monday afternoon, a university spokesperson confirmed.

Cause of death wasn't immediately known.

Richardson, 76, was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2003. He played nine seasons in the NFL, mostly for the Baltimore Colts and appeared in Super Bowl III. Richardson was first-team All Pro in 1967.

He was inducted into the Jackson State Sports Hall of Fame in 1978. Richardson was the color analyst for the Tigers' football games on their radio broadcasts and he also hosted a weekly hour-long radio show on ESPN The Zone 105.9

R I P. Mr Richardson was a friend of my late father. I went to HS with his son. The Richardson brothers were some bad boys back in the day. My condolences to the JSU family as well as his family and friends. Will miss hearing him on the JSU broadcast with Rob Jay.
 
Really shocking, just saw him at the JSU signing day event last week. Really enjoyed listening to him during football season
 
I met him through Doug Williams at the 2007 SWAC Football Championship weekend along with another JSU football great who's name slips my mind right now and coach Payton well all went to a sport bar in the hotel and if I tell you those old men were super funny trying to hang out pass their bed times LOL, and man did I get schooled in SWAC football history that night it was awesome...Sorry to hear of his passing!

I was browsing the C-L site and noticed this obituary...

Dr. Earline O. Richardson

One week ago Jackson, MS lost one of its beautiful, loving, and caring Jacksonians by the name of Dr. Earline O. Richardson. She departed from this earth on Thursday, May 26, 2016, at Baptist Hospital. -
Earline attended Jackson State College after graduating from high school but left her sophomore year heading to Baltimore, Maryland where she married the late legendary Jackson State standout and NFL player, Willie L. Richardson, Jr. -
