JSU WILL OPEN WITH DELTA STATE SEPT. 1ST

This game, by all accounts, better be in Jackson. Cleveland can not handle the type of crowd that JSU will bring to that area. Greenville (my hometown) would have a hard time with it, for that matter. Let's not even get into the stadium over at Delta State. That would really be a logistical nightmare.
If this game does go off without a hitch, I wouldn't mind making it a double header of football with JSU and Delta State playing in Jackson and Alcorn and Grambling playing at Alcorn.
I hope one of these games is an early game.

40,000 to start the season will be nice especially with a win.

That is what we are banking on. Delta State just had a good run (one game away from the D2 national championship) and JSU's rebuilding is over so this should get good press in the state. The X factor is how many Delta State fans will come to Jackson and how many "neutral" fans will choose Alcorn/Grambling. This should certainly draw good interest from the JSU fans and some people ready to jump on the bandwagon.

Just food for thought..........JSU is 1-AA and Delta State is D-2........rule of thumb is you don't travel to a D-2 school. No different than a 1A school would travel to a 1-AA school if they played us. So JSU going to Delta State was never an option unless you have a dumb AD which Braddy is not.

Anyway great deal.......should be an interesting game.

I wish we would schedule ULL. Going to Lafayette or staying in Baton Rouge. It would still be a packed house, both stadiums will be the same capacity. Ya'll JSU Tigers have fun Sept 1st and get that win!!!!

I think most of the Delta will be in Jackson for this game, and we should probably see a good number of nuetral fans. I see this as being a more than one time deal especially since we're going to a 7 game format in 2008. We should be able to get 30k easy.

Nice pick up J-State....If you are going to play a D2 school, play one of the best programs I say....This will be nice for the city of Jackson in so many ways.

ULL is 1-A so we would have to play them in Lafayette. They would be stupid to play us in Mumford.

Actually, Delta State has made it known that they would like to play a home and home series with Jackson State and Alcorn. They have already had the games with Mississippi Valley now they're looking to play JSU and Alcorn. As a matter of fact, Alcorn was scheduled to play Delta State a few years ago with the first game of our 2 game series being in Cleveland. Something fell through at the last minute and the game was cancelled. The game was already listed on Delta State's 2 year schedule and everything.

Well I am sure they would want that........but if I am Alcorn and JSU. I say no to playing a D-2 school at their house. You have nothing to gain by that and everything to lose. I remember when Texas A&M loss to ULL in Lafayette when RC Slocum was coaching them and he was like it was a mistake to play a school like them at their house and they were 1-A. LOL.

NO WAY should JSU or Alcorn play Delta State on the road. You don't play lower division teams on the road. There is no financial gain. But if we are going to play a D2 school this year this was the best choice.

What's the big deal about playing Delta State in Cleveland, besides the stadium issues? If you look at it, they're actually better than Valley, JSU, and Alcorn. They have won a D2 National Championship and almost made it to the title game this season. For a D2 team, they definitely have some talent. They were wearing Valley out when they played the home and home series with them a few years ago. I think Valley only won one game out of the 4 they played.
Delta State could be a 1-AA team. They probably wouldn't be a good one to start off with but they definitely have talent for a 1-AA squad. And, to tell you the truth, they are the best college football team in Mississippi right now. Delta State, USM, Ole Miss, Alcorn, JSU, Valley, and Mississippi State bringing up the rear.
Yall are acting like you're going to Texas to play a D2 school. Cleveland is probably 3 hours away from Jackson. That's almost like going to Valley and you go there every other year. You'll lose the same amount as going to Valley. JSU will benefit from it, too. There's a ton of talent on those teams in the Cleveland area (Cleveland Eastside, Cleveland High, Ray Brooks, Shaw High, Broad Street, etc.) that don't normally get to see JSU. You'll definitely land some good recruits out of that trip.

Some of yall can really handicap yourselves and your program with the attitudes you have. Let's face it, none of us are the best football team in the state of Mississippi right now. The Statesmen (or the Fried Okra-whatever they want to call themselves when they play you) of Delta State are the best team in Mississippi...in ANY division (D2, 1-AA, or 1A)!

I agree. No school in the SWAC should bow down and travel to a Div II school.

I wonder if Delta State will bring their band.

Boy ya'll catching a break by playing them this year. If u thought SU and GSU ran a wide open offense, you have never seen Delta St. Their record-setting quarterback Scott Eyster graduates this year, and his backups saw little to no time. What I will tell u is that they have a good defense led by linebacker Michael Eubanks and cornerback Monterio James. While they may struggle to score next year, they will play good defense. JSU should win, but if it had've been last year, it would have been ugly for JSU secondary.
