yeah...cause you get get a FREE ban for it. I thought the same thing as well. But public or private...JSU Band Director status has been HIGHLY public since the "1992 SHAFT" job.


As far a committee goes. I hope that Dr. Lacey is one it!!!!!

Alcorn's arrangements and marching leave a lot to be desired so she obviously did not help them in that department. We need a director who knows how to edit and write arrangements to fit the band, it HEAVY on tradition, chart drills, and wants the band to march. We need to see some clips of WSSU. To be honest, of that list, only Macgruder is qualified.

I think BLAKE GAINES should be considered because he has more experience and his arrangements are off the chain! The boy is RAW! Just check out some of the old Morris Brown clips and listen. WOW.

If Jimmie James retires and Liddell replaces James, we all know who Liddell will select as his replacement. My choice would be Stephanie Sanders; she?s young like Dowell Taylor was when he assumed the position and she?ll bring back some of the traditions that has been lost under Liddell's leadership.

Stop right there..........
Dr. Liddell is NOT the Highest Ranking person in the Jackson Department of Music. He has way TOO MANY people in front of him.

Dr. Russell Thomas, Dr. Robert Blaine, Dr. Anthony.......

Plus you add the fact that now more than ever people have been VERY vocal wanting PAST traditions lost BACK. People has said that they miss the tubas for example plating Poppa was a Rolling Stone. They said they miss the classic music.

Plus they all agreeed that they are tired of hearing MARCHES played during the 5th Quarter when the other bands played 90% current and HIT music!

Guess I will have pull out my camcorder and record some of the fans reactions and place them on youtube.com


First things is first....Bring back Kappa Kappa Psi so those kids can learn and be part of the Band Fraternity whose probation has been over since 1996????

The Boom had been missing that VITAL and important piece of the family as well.

Playing marches simply shows the BOOM's diversity in music and arrangements. Something for the diverse group of JSU fans. Everyone don't care to just listen to r&b, rap or funk. There are quite a few BOOM boosters who love marching songs more than some of us love other types of songs.

Certainly at JSU, one size does not fit all.

Musicality is one thing...But at least back in the day it was about fun for the band and satisfying the FANS!!!

Also you add the fact that what people have been saying for years about that 5th quarter folder and how it needs an Extreme Makeover

Exactly! If you arrive at a football game 2 hours before kickoff, play marches then. The only other time I want to hear marches is at the circus!
 
The BOOM doesn't play marches for the crowd's approval or for their entertainment.

Marches are the foundations of MARCHING bands! If a COLLEGE band can not successfully play a march, then they need to start back from the beginning.

I agree with you. I recall back in 1999 when we played AAMU, we played 5 marches and left...LOL That was a straight knockout. When you know the other teams weakness, hit em where it hurts!!

Please broaden your horizons. Educate yourself and be diverse in your skills. This includes musical skills as well.

It's best to have it in your repertoire and not need it, than need it and NOT have it at all. JSU is not one-dimensional. We follow our OWN beat, not the beat of perhaps lesser bands who don't or CAN'T play marches.

That's what makes the BOOM, the BOOM!!
