Johnnie Cole Nails Himself to the cross


I actually listened to the first 20 minutes. Interesting points:

  • Coach Johnnie Cole said wherever he coaches, he ALWAYS take the football program to the top
  • He states that he builds up professional young men; problem is, nobody stops to ask his players about him as a coach/person
  • States he's always been the first to admit whenever he makes mistakes
  • Said he's NEVER knowingly put an ineligible player out on the field and allow them to perform
  • States he feels the name "Johnnie Cole" is black-balled and suggests it is largely due to Blacks
  • Suggested that his coaching experience with Jim Harbaugh, U of Cincinnati, D1A football was "better" and could've stayed in D1A, but CHOSE to coach at Black colleges
  • Coach Cole stated that he's ALWAYS agreed that while he has come in & had his football program intact/in place, he also always agreed that the school program took predence and that he's never had a problem with that.
  • Cole stated he "goes by the rulebook, but when the rulebook has over 300 rules, some rules are broken"
  • Cole stated that every school he came to had NCAA problems before he got there; it was was his job to handle the football program, not the academic problems

When asked after all he's experienced, did he feel as if there was still some "gas left in the tank" regarding going back to coaching, he answered with "Yes. All it takes is one person/school to give him a chance". When asked what has he learned that will make him a new, improved coach, his answer:
"I have what people are looking for".

Question: What improvements, if any, do you see in the SWAC
Answer: Grambling, Alcorn, UAPB have hired alumnus has coaches, and that shows continuity in building strong Black coaches.

Coach Cole stated that the talent level in the SWAC has gone down.

I had to leave to go pay some bills, so I didn't catch the last 8 minutes.
 



Another thing I found really interesting:

During the interview, Cole stated when he was at Lane, that was the only school where the President came to him and told him "there's a problem" and they sat down and talked about the problem. Cole also stated while at Lane, none of the school administration ever went to his players behind his back and discussed anything about him, but rather addressed him directly and upfront. He suggested that at the other schools where he coached, all was fine and it was never made known to him about any problems until AFTER the championships/season.

Bruh went off on Coach Anthony Jones one year. I forgot the exact details. It was like he would not shake hands or something and claimed that the year before Jones ran the score up or something like that. I always look at Coaches some kinda way when they do petty stuff like that. No matter who is in the wrong or right, most of the time it is just not a good look when you get in your feelings after a game. My opinion...
 
Did anyone catch the last 8 minutes of the interview? I really wanted to see if Mike Prince would bring up the sexual assault/misconduct/allegations & what JCole had to say about them.

Nahhhhhh, he was lobbed *rump-like questions...almost like he gave a list of questions he could be asked or he got the questions ahead of time so he could prepare.

I went ahead & listened to the last 8 minutes while I took my bath.
Either this Mike Prince has a “bromance” love affair with JCole or he was given specific questions to address.
However, it may be those sexual allegations are in litigation. Idk. There was a whole lot of things left unsaid. But at least Cole said he’d be happy to answer ANY questions if given the opportunity to come back on the show.

Good point! And if they are in litigation, he by law is not able to answer them. Glad that we was to hear his side. Amazes me that when whites make alligations against blacks, we take it as the gospel truth, but when it is Cole or black side, we then say there is three sides to the story or take it with a grain of salt. Just glad he was interviewed while we scream when his name was mentioned for a coaching job or anything. But there are drunk, wife beating, cheating whites that get another job and we say nothing.

You can't leave smoke at every place you've been and there be no fire. There's no "we" in this. If they found actual evidence, then he did it.
No need in trying to defend this man after all the dirt he did at not one, not two, but at multiple schools.

I’m aware that if an allegation is pending or in litigation, no discussion about it can take place. I can only go by what a person says, and Cole said (before signing off) that if given the opportunity to come back on the show, he “would love to answer questions” pertaining to “where I am”, “how did I get there”, or questions “about what they heard”.

And yes, Cole addressed the issue of the disparity between white coaches & Black coaches when it comes to NCAA infractions and other inappropriateness.

Johnnie Cole has had several platforms made available to him that allowed him to discuss/disclose his coaching ethic and how he leaves his programs in NCAA “hot water” and why that occurs. Again, he stated that every school he coached had NCAA problems BEFORE he got there. While he did not say those same schools were better NCAA-wise DURING and AFTER his departure, he did, however, say it was NOT his job to take care of the academics; it was his job to take care of the football program.

I normally don’t listen to the man. I admit I’m highly skeptical of coaches who place higher priorities on winning rather than compliance and academics (i.e. Archie Cooley’s stint at UAPB). This time, I sat down and took time to hear what he had to say. While I think the interview was more subjective than objective, listening to him gave me a quite a bit of insight about him.

That’s why I listened to the interview. I didn’t know a lot of details about how it went down at Texas Southern. And I remembered that he coached at Alabama State under his brother.

But I did NOT know he coached at Lane, Southern, and Tennessee State.

I remember when Cole got that job at the school in Fort Worth (middle or high school). I thought surely that would be a place where no kind of controversy would take place. I was wrong. I think it’s surreal that just about everywhere this man goes, NCAA violations or controversy or unethical conduct or inappropriateness follows.
