JMU to offer COA for all sports starting in 2019

NCAA should force both of them to FBS. They're essentially reaping the benefits without any of the responsibilities

NCAA should also force some FBS schools back to FCS.

Because a lot of FBS schools are faking the funk and putting student athletes at a competitive disadvantage. The bowls have been de-emphasized with the creation of a playoff, so the teams at the bottom of the G5 barrel are basically wasting their time in FBS.

Prime example? ULM. They spent less on athletics than PV last year. JMU would be better swapping with a ULM.

there should 3 levels in divison 1..the P5, G5 and FCS.
Why in the hell does the G5 conferences decide to stay in FBS when they have no shot at all to make the playoffs is beyond me. they can form their own level and create a playoff.

but why should FCS schools like JMU be forced to jump up if they don't want to.

ULM definitely should be FCS. Their budget isn't much better than ours, all of their athletic programs suck, and their alums seem to be Tech and LSU fans. lol

Ya'll leave Northeast Louisiana Junior College alone. They are no different than LSUA. Go back a few decades and both schools where LSU's junior colleges, one for Northeast Louisiana and the other for Central Louisiana aka CENLA. Several other Louisiana schools were the same way. Now LSU has only one junior college in its system, which is LSUE.

Why does the SWAC stay in FCS when it's unlikely any team will ever win a championship? Same thing. And there are 1,000 answers as to why this logic is silly to be honest. You do know that G5 teams get payouts from media deals, the bowl series, etc... right? You also get higher payouts from P5 schools for playing those games. Many make the same argument about the SWAC and MEAC being D2.

Plus that suggestion is using a football mindset.

Basketball powerhouses like Gonzaga (no football), Butler (FCS), Wichita State (no football), Georgetown (FCS) and Villanova (FCS) wouldn't go for that

never said anything about us staying in FCS.
I wouldnt mind all HBCUs in D2

I used to dislike that idea, but the more time goes by, I wouldnt mind it. If the whole SWAC was D2, the conference would be one of the top D2 conferences and in the hunt for national titles in a lot of sports.

Problem is pride, division and general negro mess

some G5s get decent media deal payouts but that's offset by fielding the additional scholarships, etc. Its level once you get into basketball.

"NDSU, Sam Houston, Eastern Washington and James Madison [skewing its performance because of the last two seasons]), and a second-tier that includes New Hampshire, South Dakota State, Jacksonville State and Wofford. Northern Iowa..."

As the article states, those are pretty much the teams that usually make it deep into the FCS playoffs and have done so consistently since 2010

They ain't lying. So when you hear one of these MEAC playoff supporters (or those that go to AGS and see what they post over there about the playoffs) say they wanna hurry up and get out of the six year deal with Celebration Bowl so that their champ can go back to the FCS playoffs and compete for a national title, they are lying to themselves. If Broadway would have stayed at A&T, I might have given them a shot (we'll see how Sam does) and maybe London at Howard but these other schools don't stand a chance

Here's my thing.

I will never talk down on an HBCU thats attempting to elevate its athletic programs. We always laugh about our schools hiring bogus coaches and just accepting mediocrity, so why point finger at a school thats trying to do the opposite?

How many HBCUs are serious like Howard by hiring a guy with a national title game experience and expectations as a head coach? I recall a few people acting like Howard was crazy for hiring London saying he would be too expensive for an HBCU. Thats the old way of thinking. Its OK to want more out of life.

The players we get now. Wouldn’t go play at the D2 level. Folks got to understand that. We would get D2 level players and we would not play in March Madness either. We would be completely D2

We would still get quality players that dont qualify for D1. This is where institutional competence comes into play. You cant just go D2 and cut every corner possible just because "we're not in D1 anymore." This is what I mean when I say negro mess lol

I think going D2 would be a mistake. IMO, WSSU is no better off by dropping back down to the D2 level. They spend more time fussing and cussing about not being able to play former in-state rivalries (NCA&T and NCCU) in a home and home series. The way I see it, they should have stayed at the D1 level to grow those rivalries. The only way one would know which (FCS versus D2) is better, a complete economic study would need to be done. Right now, people are basing their theories on personal experiences.

Hard to pinpoint one FCS-to-D2 situation unless the whole conference transitioned

Hard to make any decision unless one absolutely knows all the economic pros and cons between FCS and D2 either as a whole conference or each individual school. Right now, most decisions are based on personal feelings.

that's why you want to go play at ft valley. Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to the day that ole miss has to come play at jackson state and take a beating, or bama come to montgomery.

bruh you REALLY think them white folks gonna go to Jackson and Montgomery to play HBCUS?!
