Jim Tressel resigns as Ohio State HC

jstate83,
Nebraska couldn't even run through the sorry azz Big 12, what makes you think they are about to run through the Big 10. The Big 10 is heads and shoulders about the sorry azz old Big 12. You cats are killing me.

Correction.
Nebraska just got their team rebuilt after a letdown at the end of 2006. They won only 4 games in 2007. Remember they almost did it on defense alone 2 years ago because they had no offense. They got both now. And it ain't like the big 10 is a beast conference once the 1st four teams, (Wisconsin, Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan--when they were good) are called.

As for not getting through the BIG 12, there are a lot of teams that could not beat Oklahoma and Texas. Nebraska lost in the Big 12 Chamionship in 2006 to a 10-2 regular season Oklahoma. That same Oklahoma that came back and won the Big 12 again in 2007 and 2008. Texas won it in 2009 and Nebraska lost to Oklahoma again in 2010 in the Big 12 Championship game so don't act like Nebraska was not in the hunt to win the Big 12.

Frat, They lost their best defensive player this year in that Prince kid that got drafted. They lost another starting DB as well. Not to mention a DL and LB. They also lost a starting WR and RB. They will have to adjust to the Big 10. I am not saying they will be sorry. But the other teams aint going to get whooped like folks think. Nebraska OL are from the same places the Big 10 get theirs. Aint like they are getting those athletic SEC OL like a Pouncey kid or something. These are the same cornfed white boys the other schools in the Big 10 get. So no advantage there. Nebraska is like Wisconsin. They go as the Qb goes. The Martinez kid is a great athlete. But he can't pass the ball consistently. That will kill them in Big 10 play. Their defense will win games for them against teams with weak offense. But the passing teams gone give them some trouble. Suh and Prince are in the NFL. So their defense aint the same as it was a couple of years ago.

We ain't talking 40-50 years ago. LOL. We are talking that Florida aint consistently a Top 10 program over time.......period. Ole Miss wasn't great 40 years ago. LOL. Neither was Tulane.

Notre Dame has other issues. And how is Florida a better destination than Alabama? I will wait on this one. You are just Florida bias because you are a fan. Have you ever attended Florida to know how great it is? Have you been to Gainesville Florida? Do you really think Florida is better to work for than Alabama as a football coach? Now Juke.....you can't be serious.

Overall means more than just football. When look at the entire athletic program and academic environment, Florida is definitely better. Alabama is better for football, but that is it.

Look how long it took Florida to get that good. Unlike an Ole Miss or Tulane who didn't have the resources Florida had. It was no reason for them to be mediocre and allow Miami and Florida State to dominate for that long. And both of those schools still have more success over the last 25 -30 years than Florida did. That's my point. Even LSU is a johnny come lately. They were not isht in the 70s or 80s when I was at SU. Them suckers were sad. Alabama has been the mainstay in the SEC even when down......they still have won in every decade to stay revelant. Florida is no where near their success and probably will never be. Zook's problem is he can't coach. He could recruit. But he can't win consistently.......see Illinois and how he is on the bubble every year there and he has more talent than Michigan State and Iowa but can't win. We will see how ole Muschamp does with Florida State and Jimbo Fisher on the rise.

I agree, I just think after Coach Graves, Florida didn't really hire a landmark coach like a Bobby Bowden, Frank Solich, Joe Paterno, etc.. until they hired Spurrier. Jeremy Foley came in and got things right. Think about it, there a lot of programs that make you wonder how they aren't more successful.

I say "easy" because the strongest Big 10 team, OHIO STATE, has been rendered toothless for 2011. That only leaves Wisconsin, Iowa, and Penn State as Nebraskas serious competition. Michigan ain't nowhere near ready and the rest of the Big 10 besides the 3 teams I named don't stand a chance of beating Nebraska.

You forgot about Michigan State and Northwestern. I would be more worried about those two teams than Iowa and Penn State.

Ohio State made Pryor what he is, now they're turning their backs on the dude....and this after taking them to the national title?! Ungrateful SOB's.

This not only spells doom for Ohio State in football, it spells doom for the Big Ten and MILLIONS of dollars because Ohio State WAS the Big Ten in football. No more national championships for the Big Ten for a few years.

What national title did Pryor lead them to? The last national title Ohio State won was in that game against Miami 10 years ago. Heck, it was going to be a while before the Big Ten won a national title anyway with or without Ohio State.

Now that I agree with you on. Florida is a BETTER school than Alabama academically. And overall in sports. No question about that. They have an elite overall athletic program.

Yep. Northwestern is balling under Fitzgerald. I am hoping Fickell can do the same for Ohio State. Young coach who was a former player.

So we just spent 3 pages arguing for no reason. I was talking about the entire athletic department when I was saying they were the best in the SEC. We all know Alabama rules Football, Kentucky rules men's basketball, and Tennessee rules women's basketball.

He must really love Northwestern and believe he can regularly win there, because he passed up some great jobs.

SI went in on Tressel  .

"In the morning he would read the Bible with another coach. Then, in the afternoon, he would go out and cheat kids who had probably saved up money from mowing lawns to buy those raffle tickets. That's Jim Tressel."

The Bible calls that a wolf in sheep's clothing. We know there are others who have not been caught.

With this stuff snowballing on Ohio State, they might just get a clean-cut, fresh-breath-of-air coach to clean things up and stabilize the program, then find some BS way to get him out so they can get a high-profile coach. Kind of like what Alabama did with Mike Shula.

Aint happening. LOL. Woody had run ins with the NCAA. Told them if he had a kid that was hungry, that he was going to give them money out of his own pocket and he did. Earle Bruce and John Cooper had issues even though Cooper is acting like compliance was on his arse back when he was the coach. I know better. LOL. The Buckeyes will not hire a Mike Shula type. They will rather roll the dice with the NCAA. They saw what happened to Bama before Saban got there.

That SI article is BS.......Tressel didn't cheat the kids. His players were graduating better than his predecessor. 22 just made academic all Big 10. The cover up was just bad. Aint like the kids were given grades or had someone take their SAT/ACT or their were huge money exchanging hands. In the grand scheme of things, Tressel hurt himself more than he hurt the kids.

Yep.
But I'm going with NEBRASKA though for 2011 in the Big 10. Shat just seem like its lining up for them even with people leaving their team due to Graduation and the NFL. Last couple of years though, Nebraska seems to suck that up and keep improving the next season. I also got Oklahoma in the Big 12(?), and Alabama or LSU in the SEC.

Did you read the article. Its very detailed. They said he help run a raffle that was given at the end of football camps when he was a assistant @ OSU. It was mostly high end kids, but they would pay for their top recruits to attend. Tressel would rig the raffle so all of their recruits would win :smh: .

And they were taking money, drug money at that from the tattoo guy Rife. One guy exhanged 4 tickets to the fiesta bowl for a Tahoo  .

You do realize when Tressel was an assistant at Ohio State right...........it was the 80s. You also know who were assistant coaches during that time period at OSU.....Glen Mason, Saban, Dom Capers and later Urban Meyer. So what do you think was going on then at OSU. LMAO. It was the 80s. Wasn't Barry Switzer doing everything under the sun back then at OU.

Now the tattoo guy has nothing to do with Tressel. That was the players getting the tattoos. Wasn't like the players were involved in the tatoo guys other side business. LOL.

That article is still BS. Anybody who is close to the program will tell you Tressel is not a bad dude by no means. Was he wrong in what he has done. Most definitely. But is he a down right bad dude who cheats his players. Absolutely not. I would let a kid of mine play for the dude. Whatever wrong he has done....his kids go to class and graduate. Which to me is more important than telling the NCAA your players sold stuff. LOL.

Again did you read the article. SI didnt say that about him. It was one of the former coaches that was on staff with him at the time  . It was stated several times that players also exchanged signed magazine, jersey's and other things for drugs(weed) . One even had Tressel's autograph on it  .

I think he meant Tattoo. LOL.

Jermil Martin exchanged the tickets for the Chevy Tahoo  . One player even got a 2004 Jaguar  . The Department of Justice alerted Ohio State of the transactions. Once the article came out Tressel had no choice but to step down. Its very very detailed.
