Jim Tressel resigns as Ohio State HC

Re: Jim Tressel resigns as Ohio State HC...

You honestly think Bo Pellini would leave another high profile program for OSU? You do know that they have moved to the Big Ten this coming season.

Yeah I do. I mean it's his alma mater and he's from Ohio so it would be hard for him to say no. It would be money at that point. Don't know what he is making there. But they mentioned him on Mike and Mike. Herbstreit threw his name out there. Ohio State will have a lot of people to choose from. What was funny is hearing former OSU LB Chris Spielman say on Mike and Mike that Ohio State should go after Tony Dungy. LOL. Dungy has become the saviour for all. I guess after he helped Vick get reformed. He would be honest enough to help Ohio State. But I doubt he would take that job. Hell the U of Minnesota folks have been lobbying to get their alum to come back as AD. That would be a kick in the pants if Dungy took that job. Now if Gene Smith gets fired. I hope OSU does go after him for the AD role or hire ole Bobby Knight or Archie Griffin as AD.

Re: Jim Tressel resigns as Ohio State HC...

Work 2 days a week (on weekends, including travel) or work 7 days a week as a coach?

You know they do more than that with that traveling sideshow they call Gameday. They travel quite a bit. The point is......he will be gone every weekend. So much for spending time with the family. It's the same coach speak we hear when one of them steps away from the game to recharge. LOL. Nobody is buying it.

It's not as strenuous as coaching, but there's far more to being an analyst (at least a competent one) than showing up on Friday night and going home Sunday morning. It's a significant commitment for someone who claimed to retire to spend more time with family.

Ok. Money will definitely be a factor for Bo but I do know that Nebraska has some serious money as well and Tom Osborne will do anything to keep him there because he's getting that football program back to the days of "The Black Shirts". If Bobby Knight get hired as an AD, you best believe those programs will be clean. Some people call him an arsehole but he knows the NCAA rules better than any coach or AD in the country.

With technology they can review stats and film without having to travel, then probably do a teleconference or 2 during the week to discuss plans, then travel on Friday. It is nowhere near the amount of time involved as a college head coach.

You're arguing a point no one ever made. It was never implied that it was as time consuming as coaching, but it does require a significant time commitment. Working at home is still working.

Ahh... while the kids are at school, wife at brunch with the girls, he can do some work for a couple hours. Again, this is only from August - January. You guys are implying that he was a hypocrit because he took a high-travel/workload job after leaving Florida, but it is really like just getting retirement income. LOL

I doubt he's working now.

He is being one and folks who know why he really left Florida, know it too. LOL. It is what it is. He aint the first coach to use that excuse to only return sooner than later. I hope he stays at ESPN. Don't want him on OSU sidelines.

It's outside of football season. It was just a month ago that he did like a 2 week series of traveling to different schools for spring football practice. I really haven't implied anything, I merely pointed out he stayed retired about 2 months, and I still maintain he'll be back coaching sooner rather than later.

LOL. Mike Golic said the same thing. He aint buying it either. Meyer used his words carefully. I will not coach this Fall. Duh......there is no high profile job open this Fall. Didn't Ohio State say they will look for the 2012 season. LOL. He could have kept that to himself.

He aint throwning money away. He will get paid again. LOL. And if you are married and your wife is unhappy.......then you are unhappy. LOL. Many have done it before. Meyer also leaves Florida with his winning still in tact. So he will be a hot commodity for a 5 million a year job. Which is what he will get if he takes the Ohio State job. Folks act like that Florida job was so great. They have not be a power as long as a Alabama. Spurrier got that program off their backsides and Meyer came in and won with Zook's players. He got out at the right time. Even if there were other issues why he rolled out. LOL. Johnnie Cole send help.

Actually Florida is right behind Texas and Ohio State for all of their sports. You are crazy if you are saying that the Florida football job is not one of the most coveted jobs in America. Located in prime recruiting territory with an unlimited amount of funding and resources, only a small number of schools can compare to Florida in football. Not to mention they are the 2nd best academic school in the SEC. And one of the best public schools in the entire country. Who cares how long they have been an elite football program? That hasn't stopped them from winning more national titles than the entire Big Ten in the past 20 seasons.

Florida was actually a good program pre-Spurrier but they ran into some NCAA sanctions mid-80s that derailed their momentum. Spurrier did come to the rescue, but couldn't that be said about a lot of top programs? Meyer won with Zook's players, but he also won with his own players(Tebow, Harvin, Spikes, Hernandez,etc.). Meyer had one bad year, and that was because he had an inept OC and a horrible QB. He had Jeff Driskell and Jacoby Brisett coming in this season, which would fit the Spread Option offense. Despite having a horrible offense, they still went 8-5, and had the chance to go 10-3(if the kicker didn't get injured during a weightlifting session).

His problem was that he was too loyal to his staff. Steve Addazio had no business being the OC, and Urban didn't want to betray his friendship with him by demoting him. Since Addazio left to go to Temple, Meyer would have been able to hire a good OC to get the offense back on track.

He is going to listen, but actually taking the job might be a different story.

LOL, I mean $4.5 million is a lot to give up because you can't stand to be around your own people. Columbus isn't going to be much better.

Yall aint reading what we are saying.........Meyer had to get ghost. I will leave it at that.

I don't want him at OSU. Other Buckeyes do. I aint that impressed with him. I rather have someone else. I am rooting for the underdog in Luke Fickell. He's young and motivated. Hopefully it translates into wins. But if they want a bigger name then they will give Meyer whatever he wants.

Meyer is a great coach. He won at Bowling Green(notice how you haven't heard a thing about them since he left), Utah(set them up for their move to the Pac-12), and rebuilt Florida after the Bell of the SEC(Ron Zook) messed them up. He is excellent with gameplans for the big games(7-2 in bowl games), and is a great recruiter. Ohio State actually has the speed on offense to run his offensive style. Tyrelle Pryor would thrive in the Spread Option offense. When you have the right tools in place, that offense is nearly impossible to stop(see Florida 2007 and 2008). The only negatives about Meyer is whether or not he can give you a long tenure(see Florida) and can he stop his players from getting arrested(see Florida). He actually is a great fit for Ohio State. If he takes it, he will have to answer a ton of questions about why he really left Florida.

What?!!! Was he nailing some hottie around Gainesville and wifey found out? He ain't pull a Governator and had a kid by one of them Miami housekeepers, huh?

I doubt it. There is no way how that could have been kept secret unless Meyer and Florida have the best Press staff in world history.

It aint secret. LOL.

You did see how secret Rick Pitino kept his stuff going until the stupid woman tried to blackmail him. Even had his assistant coach marry his jumpoff.

The media don't always screw with these white boys. You know the deal. Especially since the local media in Gainesville was not going to touch it with ten foot pole. But you can google it. There are rumors on the web. But my contacts in Columbus got more than the rumors. LOL. Not that they care who is messing around with. But his wife does. LOL.

True, Florida was winning before Spurrier became the head coach. The problem was that they could not win the SEC. They would start off quickly and fade at the end of the season.

Which is what I meant. Winning but not dominant. They were not a National Power before Spurrier and didn't have the same history as Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, USC, Alabama, Nebraska, Oklahoma and some others with decades of winning and being top 10 programs. Spurrier put them there in the 90s and Meyer returned them there in the late 2000s. So the Florida job may pay a lot of money and it's a good job to have no doubt with it's fan base, money and recruiting area. But it is still not the premier job in the SEC to have. Alabama still is. One could argue with all due respect to Michigan who is has a great history that the Ohio State job is the premier job in the Big 10 for football.

Pryor better get his azz out of Ohio quickly. Those folks are about to gut him like a fish.

Ohio State's Terrelle Pryor driving on suspended license

Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor, already under investigation by Ohio State and the NCAA over whether he improperly received cars and other impermissible benefits, has had his driving privileges suspended, according to a spokeswoman with the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Pryor's license was suspended last month because he had no proof of insurance when he was stopped by Columbus police for running a stop sign Feb. 17.
