For some reason he came across my mind just the other day.. Maybe because I hadn't heard about him in a while. Such a monumental figure in many fields including Sports and Civil Rights. He is definitely one who marched through life to a different drummer and perhaps we are all better for that. For me, I choose not to mourn his passing but rather to Celebrate his Influential and Trailblazing Life.

This has always been one of my favorite photographs. Sadly, I don't remember what the occasion was.
It was when Ali had been stripped of his title after refusing to serve in the military and fight in the Vietnam War. Behind the scenes, Brown was a key person that brought some of the more visible Black Pro athletes together to show support for Ali's cause.

Yeah, in context of America's political climate at the time, many of us (Foundational Black Americans) were indeed on one accord, more than ever at least out in the open. In short summary, under Brown's leadership, they all had Ali's back.

O how I yearn for the days when African american professional athletes used their platform to advance the causes of our people!
I think part of the reason why African American pro athletes were like that back then was because the majority went to segregate black schools, with black teachers, along with racism being more apart of their family and their daily lives. Generations after come from more of environment were racism might not be as in your face as it was back before 1980s and earlier depending on their location.
The one thing that people should give Jim Brown credit for his he continuing to work to improve the lives of his people all the way to the end, even if sometimes the optics were not in his favor.
