As mentioned earlier, you are on the outside looking in. Anyone who suggests that we had as much talent last year as we had from 1999 to 2002 has no clue of what the program is trying to overcome now. And you can trash all of the loyalty talk...........you are the one that's clueless on this issue.

You are absolutely right. I am on the outside looking in and J-State is a whole lot better off than they were the prior 3 years. :nod2: Please bring that much better off team to New Orleans and please do not fire that coach. Keep him, because he is really turning that program around in Jackson.

Boy I am so sick and tired of you "JSU Experts". Ya'll know so much when actually it is "negative nothing (0 - )". Juke, your comments are laughable, but I'll take your word for it . TRU2, man please. Why don't you go interview Bell or give interviews for him since you know what he should say and what Jacksonians want to hear? :smh:

My question is what has James Bell done to all of ya'll to make him hate you so much??? "L" if I felt any of ya'll coaches were so darn terrible, I'd be urging you to keep them. But ya'll just get on here and trash this man to no end. When you only know 2% of what you speak. But carry on " X PURTS".

Ya'll know best.

You guys know best... Enjoy your season and enjoy Culbertson and Bells.. :fart:

Hughes may have crippled your program is many ways as many of you, especially TP have noted. However, the man knew this: To win over Jackson State fans and pretty much any group of SWAC football fans, you have to do one thing: WIN!

He did that. The fact that he ran away from the running game from 2000 to 2002 is not even necessary to this conversation at this point. The fact that his special teams were a joke isn't needed. The man had firepower on offense and defense and once again, the man WON.

Do you realize that the last time JSU had a serious running attack as a first option before 2003 was 1999? What happened in 1999? A trip to the SWAC Championship, right? Well, at that same time, you have a inconsistent Bama State team, a paltry A&m squad, and the other two Mississippi schools were nothing hot either.

The three losses you had that year (before the playoffs) were to teams who could handle the run and stop your pass if necessary. SOUTHERN twice and Florida A&M.

Bell may have the idea that will lead Jackson State back to dominance .... but with what he had in talent last year, that was the dumbest move I have ever seen by a SWAC Coach. And then this year, you LOSE the quarterback who did it all for you, your top receiver, and pieces off of what should have been a dominating defense and HE still wants to run that ball.

Did he recruit to do that? What about a offensive line that, as LS said in another thread, "was adequate but not good, which is what made Keenebrew's rushing totals and selection to the All-SWAC team even more remarkable with only 400+ yards." (Am I close MH?)

A new QB, who could have been Green, who should be ahead of the others in Bell's system (his second year), but most of you noted he was lucky to be third string right now with the Haren kid and another kid coming in. Both of these guys are passing QB's with nice arms, YET Bell still focuses on the RUN first with an adequate o-line and at this point, somewhat adequate running backs.

Now you can say that we are on the outside and we are, but note how many times I noted something that you guys, people who should be on the inside, noted about your own team .....

In talking to the JSU Alumni in Huntsville, I have not met a single one who supports the current situation in Jackson.

What is so sad about the whole thing is that we lead the the nation in total offense in 2002. Even though we were a passing team, we lead the conference in rushing with an average at least 168 yards per game. People can criticize Hughes as much as they want but the facts are the facts. Our defense also finished third overall in the conference from the previous year. I know that Hughes should be criticized for things especially special teams play and turnovers which cost us very crucial games. One thing that is an absolute fact is that he did not have a losing season. Now, Mr. Bell changed the offensive strategy and we fell from the number ranked offense in the nation to the 107th ranked offense in the nation. As we know, majority of his experience has been on the defensive side of the ball side of the ball, in other words he do not have that much experience as an offensive coordinator. In addition, he hired an out of work running back coach (no experience as an offensive coordinator) to run our offense. However, I can understand him wanting to install his offensive system, but lot of coaches would base their offensive scheme around the current players on the team(Kent and his passing attack) until they recruit the kind of players they want, but not Bell. For example, Ole Miss was mostly a passing team because of Eli Manning, but this year they have more of a option type quarterback and they building the offensive scheme to complement his talent. Likewise, under Bell this year we still had problems with special team play, fumbles, and also we could not run the football - but we worked all spring 2003 on the running game. Even though Bell seems to be an intelligent person, he is not head coaching material. Maybe he could be an athletic administrative assistant or academic counselor to the football team, but not the head football coach. In other words, since JSU changed the head football coach, an proven head coach or coordinator from a proven system should have been hired - not James Bell. For all of you people that want to keep blaming Hughes for Bell's failure, Hughes is no longer the coach.Bell should be held reponsibile for his own actions. Let us not forget that JSU tradition existed before Bell and it will return after we get rid of Bell. Also, I would not mind bringing former AD Walter Reed out of retirement because Culberson that do not have a clue on how to manage or promote athletics at JSU. By the way there are a lot of JSU supporters that share the same sentiments as I do.
