Jaguars' Smith lends hand at JSU

In its last day of two-a-day practices Wednesday, Jackson State got an unexpected visit from Jacksonville Jaguars All-Pro wide receiver Jimmy Smith. The ex-JSU star took time out from his schedule to instruct the Tigers.
"It is my way of giving back to the university for all it did for me," said Smith, a holdout this NFL preseason.
"Just his presence here in this morning's practice is starting to show," said offensive coordinator Darrell Asberry.
Smith went over fundamentals with the quarterbacks and the wide receivers, showing them releases, routes and basic things that are needed to get to the National Football League.
"He took the time out, and the players really opened their minds up to what he had to say and what he could teach them," said Asberry.
Smith caught 112 passes for 1,373 yards and eight touchdowns in 2001.
Smith isn't the only former JSU player to come back. Rashad Anderson, Destry Wright and Zack Grady have offered advice at various times.
JSU opens it season Aug. 31 at Southern Miss.
