Jackson State's and Alcorn's Athletic Budgets loses funds

If I am a good SWAC Commissioner, I want to think what is best for the WHOLE CONFERENCE. I would not let two fellow institutions dictate how I should plan for the
whole conference. If they do not want to Compromise moving their game when it is clearly in the way of the FCS playoffs, they are going to have to give up something to meet halfway. They cannot have their cake and eat it too. It doesn't work like that.

I am looking at positive vision for that benefits EVERY SWAC MEMBER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right-Click and Save This That I am about to Say If You Want To:

"I predict that soon and very soon, the MEAC is going to do something that puts the SWAC to shame. I don't know what it is but when it happens, only then will the SWAC have no other choice but to stand together in unison. The Selfishness and Irresponsibility will come back to haunt us and even Tradition will not be able to save the SWAC. I'm done."

So the State of Mississippi increased the overall Athletic Budget for State funded schools by 5.2% but decreased Jackson State and Alcorn Athletic Budgets by 11.2% and 4.6% respectfully. Something doesn't seem right. Do they have some type of sliding rule that determines who gets what?

The MEAC Conference just signed a Marketing deal with s aports marketing company. That is a part of this equation. I know that athletic marketing arms would be interested in assisting the SWAC and member institutions. When you have no Football playoff money added to 1 Swac men's and basketball team plus one Swac team for the other sports in the NCAA Championships the conference has made money which is distributed to the institutions thru revenue sharing. The further you advance in the NCAA Championships the more money the conference gets. Until or Unless the Swac and our schools get the help they need to market our institutions and the SWAC we will always fall short.

Let them continue to ignore the big picture. When things get so bad to the point where they are screaming foul, I'm going to stand by and laugh while thinking to myself, "Told You So".

I thought you were done?

I'm done.

Write, email or call your President and encourage others to. Whining and typing just to see black and white on the screen won't help a bit. Spears coming back has finally made you peeps come out of your shells, lofts and caves. Fairweather azzez.

They did it so no one could say that they decreased all the HBCU's budgets. Plain and Simple.

Blame Mississippi Legislation

Most states don't care but at least they try to hide it lmao.

This pretty much sums it all up...

Ole Miss and MSU dont depend on their money from the state nearly as much as the SWAC schools do but they still get increases while most of the time some duo of SWAC schools (usually including us lol) get cut... and Mississippi doesn't hide this fact either

Reminds me of The Oblongs...

It all boils down to ONE thing and that is giving back to the respective universities! How often do we see these nice arse houses, cars, etc posted on FB and elsewhere but we won't give not one damn dime back to our schools...Sad part is many of our jobs probably offer match and grant programs and we don't take advantage FREE MONEY! You can bet your last dollar that them "other folk" do... why because you can't say jack about their beloved schools..Hell instead of going to the damn game dressed in new fit, probably only to be taken back the stores the next day, try wearing that school's color to the game...Hell do like they do..We don't see them walking around to be seen! We gotta get creative to get fans back into the stands! Yes, having a winning record does help but what other avenues can be used??? Money generated buy alums can help ease some of the woes our schools suffer by using money given by legislature to be used somewhere else...And we all know that some of our alums got money coming out their arses!

I agree. That's the absolute truth. Then the people that don't give back like they should are the first one's to criticize but their sorry azz can't even by season tickets to help you the school even if they can't go to all the home games.

How do schools award full scholarships in their budgets? I see schools with budget cuts still offer full rides for everyone so are they cutting other areas to keep full rides for all 18 or so sports?

That's why I hate when people hire from SEC schools without much research thinking they did something great....you start out with $18 million in the bank! All you got to do from that point is maintain!
They dont understand. These outsider's are the one's that are killing our schools.

And you continue to forget that Alabama State plays their rivalry game with Tuskegee during that same week.

1. Fundraising is necessary!!!! All of the SEC schools operate on funds from private contributions. A lot of people don't realize that those $4 and 5 million coach salaries are paid through their booster club. You have some SEC schools that have their athletic scholarships paid for the next century. Look at those schools' endowments compared to ours.

2. The SEC makes its money from those 9-10 bowl games they participate in, the 5-6 teams that make the Men's and Women's Basketball tournaments respectively, and other sporting events. Not to mention the huge TV deal with ESPN and CBS.

3. Proposing that Southern and Grambling should share their revenue with the rest of the conference is pretty dumb because the Bayou Classic is a TV deal between SU and GSU.

Let them continue to ignore the big picture. When things get so bad to the point where they are screaming foul, I'm going to stand by and laugh while thinking to myself, "Told You So".

Dude, Appalachian State is one of one hundred plus FCS schools. It's already an established fact that most schools who make it to the FCS playoffs end up breaking even or losing money.
We've had this discussion before but I guess you're late. Most schools lose money by making it to the playoffs and it only benefits that one school any how.
JSU making it to the playoffs doesn't benefit Valley one bit.

State expects to make $10.4 million on tickets sales for the three majors sports. Ole Miss expects to make $13.7 million - $12 million coming from football.

Also, Ole Miss expects to receive $4.9 million from foundations and athletic clubs. Mississippi State plans to get $4 million from the same.

Said Boone: "We've been very fortunate the last two or three years. We had record dollars increase in our donor base."

"Our fans are going to do everything they can to support us," Stricklin said.

Hmmm.

Ticket sales.

Fundraising.

Our fans are doing everything they can to support us.

Interesting.

2011-12 budgets
School Budget Chg.

Ole Miss $47.58M +8.9%
Miss. State $40.06M +7.2%
Southern Miss $20.19M +2.2%
Jackson State $6.03M -11.3%
Alcorn State $5.06M -4.6%
Miss. Valley $3.32M +1.3%
Delta State $2.90M +5.6%

Shows the percentages being cut from budgets and the money the state is taking away. Might as well say taken away to give to Ole Miss, Miss. State etc.

Education is still the #1 problem for Blacks in America and your list consist of Educational Institutions. The fact is we will never catch up based on our society. However, don't give up, but try to understand the society we live in. We went from nothing to being able to buy a hamburger inside of McDonald to sleeping at a Motel 6. We have made a lot of progress, but must continue to fight.

BULLSHAT!!!! Ole Miss's Football Team got beat by FCS Jacksonville State last year and SUCKED the whole season.

Yet, they saw the biggest increase due to them just being an SEC member. See my point?

It had nothing with them being in the SEC... this is bigger than just athletics. This has to do with lack of respect for the political clout of JSU and Alcorn.

Blame Mississippi Legislation, not the SWAC. Are you that clueless?

:retard: Are you?

It had nothing with them being in the SEC... this is bigger than just athletics. This has to do with lack of respect for the political clout of JSU and Alcorn.

You Grambling people struggle with reading comprehension.

Show me one sentence of that article that said the changes in those athletic budgets are due changes in funding from the State of Mississippi.

Political clout? The Mississippi Legislature?

:smh:

Is it that difficult to understand that athletic budgets are by and large NOT funded by the state?

Did you all even read the article or did you just assume "the man" was doing you wrong?
