Jackson State's and Alcorn's Athletic Budgets loses funds

Jackson State's budget of $6.03 million was slashed by 11 percent, by far the largest decrease of the state's seven public universities. A JSU spokesman did not return a call for comment. Delta State, whose football team played for the Division II national championship last season, had a budget boost of 5.6 percent to $2.90 million.

This is sum bs...........

Where in the article does it mention Alcorn?

BTW, should come as no surprise that Ole Miss and Mississippi States budgets increased, especially Mississippi State's.
When you play in the SEC and WIN, good things come to you. They are on TV every weekend. That brings EXPOSURE!!!!

See SWAC people what happens when you are in CONFERENCE with the RIGHT DIRECTION!!!

Ole Miss's Football Team SUCKED last year yet still saw an increase in funds just by being in the SEC.

But the SWAC... I'm not even going to get started. Gets my blood pressure rising.

This is all due to the economy and demand. Basic economics.

If prices are cheaper, shouldn't more people come to games according to the Law of Demand?

Last time I checked, aren't ticket prices for a SWAC Football Game cheaper than those of an SEC Football Game? Help me out.

Blame Mississippi Legislation, not the SWAC. Are you that clueless?

BULLSHAT!!!! Ole Miss's Football Team got beat by FCS Jacksonville State last year and SUCKED the whole season.

Yet, they saw the biggest increase due to them just being an SEC member. See my point?

But it's the SWAC's fault? I guess that's the case by reading the entire article though. Mississippi hates the SWAC it seems but i see they increased Miss. Valley's athletic budget a little.

Oh well just means us fans will have to buy more tickets and cocessions from the stadium and games. Now it's time to hire an AD and claims whats rightfully ours. Also alumni donations will have to increase to offset the lose...

I just read the article and these are just figures released by the athletic departments. It doesn't say budgets were cut. Just shows what was brought in?

Dude, Ole Miss and Mississippi got $18.3 million from league revenue sharing. As I stated earlier, Ole Miss sucked last year.

You know, I'm an Alcornite but Comegy did mention something some time ago I believe about SU and Grambling sharing their profits of the Bayou Classic since they take pride in "being in the way".

Maybe Comegy was right afterall.

I guess if the SEC has a team in the National Championship Game Each Year, it benefits the WHOLE CONFERENCE.

2011-12 budgets
School Budget Chg.

Ole Miss $47.58M +8.9%
Miss. State $40.06M +7.2%
Southern Miss $20.19M +2.2%
Jackson State $6.03M -11.3%
Alcorn State $5.06M -4.6%
Miss. Valley $3.32M +1.3%
Delta State $2.90M +5.6%

Shows the percentages being cut from budgets and the money the state is taking away. Might as well say taken away to give to Ole Miss, Miss. State etc.

Budget cuts are nothing new to JSU. We will & always will work with the pennies we have... We will win and succeed with what we have.
(not just talking athletically either but in all aspects of the University)

agree or disagree... A cut was bound to happen

Everybody's athletic budgets were cut in Louisiana some more than others, even LSU's but it doesn't hurt PWC's much because of how much the alumni give back and the money they get from the TV deals.

I think what Brave is trying to say is you can be in a conference and SUCK, but if the conference make the right decisions and everybody is on the same page, everybody wins.............status, money, budget, etc. Ole Miss and Mississippi State got over 18.5 million for just being in the SEC. And that is just the TV rights alone.

The money schools get from the state that go towards their budget is a different story. Some get cut in years wheile others get a slight increase. This year, JSU came in on the cut side.

Here is the main reason State and Ole Miss got so much money to spend. Donations from those booster clubs and self marketing.

A whopping 95.2 percent of Ole Miss' budget comes from non-university funds. Ninety percent of Mississippi State's budget is self-generated
