Jackson State, sources Harold Jackson will be new head coach

Don't know what all the fuss is about. If the man's a good X's and O's coach, who cares what his age is? As long as he has quality assistant coaches surrounding him, could he be any worse than Doug or Comegy?
You guys would've complained no matter who JSU hired. That's your job.
Any how, if Mr. Jackson is the guy to be hired, here's his resume':

In 2001, Jackson became the receivers coach under Guy Morriss at the University of Kentucky. He followed Morriss to Baylor University in 2003 and was the receivers coach for four seasons. During his time off, he again volunteered his services to local schools. “I had a year on my contract. I relaxed a little bit. I helped out at high schools a little bit.”

In 2011, Jackson was inducted into the Professional Football Researchers Association’s (PFRA) Hall of Very Good. Formed in 2003, the Hall of Very Good is the PFRA’s way of honoring players who have had excellent careers, but are not in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Jackson commented, “It makes you feel good that people recognize that you did something. I always say that God gives you a talent and you use that talent to the best of your ability. That is what I thought I did and that is what I was trying to do.”

Also in 2011, Jackson got back into coaching pro receivers. “I had been working with the UFL [United Football League]. I was with Jerry Glanville in Connecticut. They shut that team down. The only thing that we did with that team was hold three trial camps. We were getting ready to go to training camp. [The UFL] shut the team down and sent everybody back home. The next year, Turk Schonert got the job in Sacramento. He called me and I went up there and was the receivers coach. After the season was over, I got involved with Football University. They do camps for kids. That starts the end of March and goes through the end of July. That is what I am doing now.”

Jackson is also involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. “I am going around speaking to the young men in groups and telling them about my relationship with God. I was brought up in a family that was very religious. My dad was a deacon. I had four sisters and one brother. We all had to go to Sunday school. When all of the other kids were outside playing in the streets on Sunday afternoon, we all had to go to BTU, Baptist Training Union. I got active in the church. It is something I really enjoy doing.”

Jackson currently lives in California.

I think I have seen my name in this thread more than I have seen Harold Jackson's. :lol:

This will not be **** Part 2.

As strange is it may sound, we are pretty sure THIS was the plan all along. This won't be **** Part 2 because this seems to be what the football players association wanted. More than likely, this will be a JSU staff from top to bottom with our "coach-in-waiting" on the staff. I don't think the JSU football players association want an outsider leading the team. Jackson is old but his coordinators (as far was know, they have been picked too :lol: ) are young and the OC will certainly be better than McCall.

Most of us heard this rumor a few weeks back but we refused to believe it. We will see if it was true when we see the entire staff..

That is why the other day I was saying that Jenkins more than likely turned down the interview because we could not guarantee him the job. Most sitting coaching want that guarantee before they interview. We could not give him that guarantee because we knew who we wanted.
 
So apparently they fired Comegy without having someone in place. Good of him to come out of RETIREMENT to help his alma mater.

Harold Jackson, a former JSU wide receiver who later starred in the NFL, has emerged as a leading candidate in Jackson State’s football coach search. Jackson, who has held NFL and major college assistant coaching jobs, has applied for the opening and was expected to talk with the school late Friday.

If Jackson State goes with Jackson, it reunites the school with one of its legendary players.

Jackson, a Hattiesburg native, was a five-time Pro Bowler and earned All-Pro honors twice. After his playing career, he was a wide receivers coach at Kentucky and Baylor and in the NFL, including a stint as a New Orleans Saints assistant. He was interested when JSU had a vacancy for its head-coaching position before the 2003 season but Jackson went to Baylor as an assistant instead.

He looks to be in better shape than half the SWAC coaches. I know he's in better shape than Comegy and Odums.:snicker:

No Smack... Besides TSU coach, are there any former Tigers in their 30's that are qualified for consideration. (I know Pete used to push a lot of players into coaching and has a bunch in the college and high school ranks)

Man who is this old man.. stepped str8 outta the Negro Leagues to recruit..hope the guy knows we play with 11 players lol...let me stop..I've been out of commish and to come back and yall hire a 70 year old guy lol...yall could have gotten one of them old guys die hard fan that sit in Memorial that talked crap about Comegy in his last two games LOL..

I heard a slew of them at the 'ship' game saying what they would have done if they were coach..lol..

Good Luck though...Memorial rout is on LMAO....

This was started by someone from JSU. Can any JSU people answer my question about former players in the coaching ranks? I have a FB friend who son is being trained by Cletis Gordon. I also know that a lot of our schools or the current coaches don't work with the former players to keep the program strong.
