It was such a wonderful feeling after we beat Southern Miss that Friday. I just knew we were going to Omaha. Me and my cousins were trying to figure out how we were going to pay for that trip :lol: . And then Emmery "El-Dukie" Freddrick hung a pitch, and the kid from Baylor didn't miss. 3-run shot, lead gone. Funny thing though, we still should have won. We loaded the bases and scored in the 8th and a 9th, and our only player that struggled that weekend, Kevin Vital, came up both times :smh: . Vital had 1 hit in the regional, and it was a solo HR in the 8th inning of a blow out game later tha night. Losing that game vs Baylor, the way we did, took everything out of Us.

I agree, having to play after that heartbreaker in the loser bracket was a killer......
That a great job JSU!!! A lot of the big boys went down today like Florida State. They are headed home thanks to Georgia Southern and Alabama.

Since the "pairings" thread is closed, let me say this here......
We SWAC schools NEED to put more money AND SUPPORT into baseball!!!!! If any of you look at this past week, you will see how our schools and our kids could benefit by playing baseball.
There is so much parity in baseball!!! Out of the 8 TOP seeds, only 3 made it to the next round. Out of the 16 #4 seeds, 11 of them won at least 1 game!!!! 3 of the #4 seeds (GA Southern, C of C, and J-State) upset top seeded teams on the 1st day.
Just imagine what we could do with 3 more pitchers on each staff and 2 more coaches!!!!!
The opportunity is there. Look at whose left playing: UC Irvine, C of C, Kennesaw State, ULL. No major names like LSU, UNC, Carolina, Oregon State, Florida, FL State, Miami, No school from the state of Florida!!!!!!
We could be the next Stony Brook, UC Irvine, Kent State, or even 1 day Fresno State!!!!!
We could even get 2 teams in the playoffs!!! But that would be when we require all schools to not play lower divisional games: Wiley, Rust, Loyola, Selma, etc. Southland had 2 teams in the tourney(only because Sam Houston was weak in their on conference tourney), and each represented well playing tough, not blown out and winning games.
Again, we need to support baseball more. Being successful in baseball could help improve other sports around campus.

this is not an individual school issue. That is a youth sports/college scholarship issue.

Agreed well I know SU fans support baseball. PV and TxSU does as well. Not sure of others but I hope with JSU winning one of those games in the tournament, it will get more people to come out to boost their attendance. It's very possible and im not saying its impossible but the days of those powerhouses just running over mid majors are soon about to be over.
I know this. This point wasn't about individual schools. It's moreso on parents and kids learning and investing time into this game.
Winning produces winning. I know we are far from these programs, but look at Duke and UNC. Their basketball team's (along with the conference) noteriety has propelled their football and baseball programs. Winning sports programs attract kids. GA Southern's football team has helped make baseball look better. There are figures out there, some told to me, but I'm not about to research all of that. But, a good sport can help the school and other sports programs.

Two points...
1) Some of your SWAC schools play more than four sub Division I games which thereby makes them ineligible for an at-large bid. Can't be a two-bid league until you guys stop that.
2) The Southland did get two bids because Sam Houston State came up short in the league tournament after another top 40, 45 RPI year. However, the Southland has been a two bid league the last three seasons and four times since 2009.
On a separate note, should further note that if it were not for awful umpire call in the 21st inning of a 22 inning loss to TCU, I would bet that Sam Houston State would have hosted Pepperdine in an NCAA Super Regional. Shame, but the Kats are close!
I agree and that's what I said and you highlighted when I mentioned Loyola, Wiley, etc. Those are the lower division schools. We SWAC schools (including SU) need to play a complete D1 schedule with all D1 opponents.
This is true, but let me know if I'm wrong. Most of the times, the #1 seeded team(who normally has a high RPI like SHSU did this year) gets knocked off in the tourney which gives the Southland the opportunity for 2 teams. I'm saying, if SHSU had won the tourney, only 1 team would have been invited just like the Sunbelt, Southern, and Big East Conference.
22 innings would tire out anyone. Whoever lost that game was done. Also, Pepperdine would have been the host. Because of the loss, SHSU was the #8 seed in the Ft. Worth / San Luis Obispo Regionals. SHSU would have been road warriors....but not a tall task.

Not wrong. Though worth mentioning the Sun Belt has historically been a two-plus bid league until last few years with some of the realignment changes and I think the same case for the Southern, probably for same reason you are indicating in many regards - but the Southland has been on 'verge' of getting more than two bids in recent years without tournament follies. The league's bottom has been a bit weak as of late, which has hurt the overall conference RPI which was about to 'crash' the top 10.
It comes down to bidding when the seeds are the exact same from the respective regionals and not a 'host'. I was told Pepperdine's baseball stadium did not have lights and that was of significant concern to the bid process, so SHSU was pretty certain they were getting the regional.
