Is the SWAC missing an avenue to generate revenue?

Devil's Gun Trigger Man

onward and upward son!
Streaming games online?

I have been thinking about this. What do you all think about them retooling SWACTV. Get 2 quality announcing teams and give viewers 1 or 2 games as an option each week. The revenue comes in maybe charging $29-$39 for a year's access to the live streaming. Just an idea.

I think all games should be streamed online. I think it is a shame that not all the SWAC schools have a local or regional broadcast contract that allows the public to watch all the games live.

We're looking for SWAC-TV to start streaming games when only a handful or our teams stream their games now. I know we (PV) charge for ours and we only stream home games and Classics. Bama State and JSU are the only other teams I know that are currently doing this.

With WJSU TV23 being part of the cable system here in central Mississippi, we need to do like the BIG 10 and record all JSU games to be replayed on Tuesday nights on our TV Station. Money from advertisements sold during the telecast should be split 70-30 JSU/SWAC. The JSU mass Communications department is the most under-used tool JSU has. TV, Radio, Metorology. We could have our own 1 hour newscast and weekend sports show if someone got off their azzes and put it together up there. They could actually start shows from the ground up.

Large area and a lot of businesses that will pay for a 15 to 30 second ad spot.

My God Almighty I wish AAMU would try to pull this off.

As far as the SWAC... they need to strike a REAL media deal with BET... ESPN... BounceTV... SOMEBODY.

I wish the powers that be would try to pull this off and bring TV23 to the front at JSU. Most the "big seat--HNIC" News and, weather, and sportcasters on the local stations graduated from JSU. Two of the leading meteorologist on the local newscast are JSU Grads. Doubt they would have any problems getting professionals advise them and help get things things up and running.

I agree with all of this. This is the mentality and innovation to survive not only with our schools but making money period. This digital age is prime and ready for the taking.

Unless I'm mistaken, we are doing all of this now. I know we used to replay games in their entirety. The problem is TV23's imprint is not large enough to make this a viable money-maker. You can't get it on most satellites.

With regards to fee-based online streaming, every SWAC venue would have to upgrade their digital capability to make this happen. And that will take a hefty investment. You can't charge for internet streaming that's of poor quality.

Yep............. I think they start showing games after the 4th week. The BIG TEN records every game played by every team weekly and then have a all-day marathon of that weekends big ten football matchups all day Tuesday on their TV network.

They need to boost the signal strength on TV23 and WJSU really bad. Tougaloo TV34...THA LOO has waaaaaaaaay more power than us.

No need to split anything with the SWAC. 100% JSU like SU's Cox deal.

Is TV23 not over-the-air?

I know.. ya'll remember last year for the Capi.. I mean Magnolia Classic, Alcorn could not live stream the game so someone from JSU somehow found a way to route the game from Lorman to Jackson so it could be seen on-line thru JSU's media.

Thought the SWAC got a share of all money making things involving SWAC schools because of conference rights. Guess not. COOL!!!!!

I know JSU need to do this now with making money in mind.

*side note* I hope to eventually make my way to the Masters program down there

As far as the other stuff, I think all our schools could/should utilize our communications like that. I get tired of seeing WABG/WXVT pretty much cover more UM/USM stuff than they do Valley with both being in Valley's backyard (with Greenwood stations)

I like the online streaming idea as well

I just think we all do our kids and schools a disservice by not using our mass communications departments to the best of their capabilities. That is great experience they could be getting.
