Is the MEAC giving Hampton the proverbial middle finger?





I still say this is wrong. I don't see how this helps the MEAC either. You all just went to see Black Panther and you agree with doing this to black people.. Snooty black people with a little stadium but they are STILL black people.
 
How much did they charge WSSU and Savannah for leaving? Or it is a different rule depending on if you are going to D2 or a fellow FCS conference?

There was/is no set financial penalty amount for leaving the conference but the scheduling requirements are different if they're going down to D2. If going to FCS the requirement was that they honor MEAC schedules for 4 years unless agreed to by the schools they were supposed to play.

how is that possible tho? The MEAC expected them to rotate their schools for 4 years or something? That rule was DAF.

Why would the MEAC allow Hampton to compete for the conference championship or any other conference rewards? They are the ones leaving. This is stupidest shit I have ever read. Did these weak ass people write a four page public letter? Pure failure of leadership. This is what happens when your selfish pride is more important than your institution.

Scheduling was planned to change in 2019 for football and all sports once HU and SSU left fully.

Those things were bargaining chips.

And the pro-rated amount remaining from the $520,000 should be more than the $250,000 fine.

Also, that fine IS NOT in the bylaws. There is no fine for leaving OR failing to notify the conference by July 1 your membership status in our conference Bylaws! This crap was negotiated bs from the Front Office, and it will end up in court. the MEAC knew about Hampton's invite since 2015, along with another school's.

I'll put my money on Hampton to win. It was not a good look to get buck with Dr. Harvey on this, and it hurt all the darn schools in the conference.

The pissing match is getting uglier by the day.
 



So, it appears Hampton didn't think this exit strategy through. Now they want to blame the MEAC for their poor planning. They want to bolt and want the MEAC to support them until they get on their feet in the new conference. Get the help they need from their new home.

You're absoluetly right, they are still hbcu's regardless of what conference they play in. Lincoln U of Missouri, Texas College, Langston, Wiley, Philander Smith and others all play in conferences that are not hbcu-only. :rolleyes:And yes, I know, those aren't FCS schools but that is beside the point. And...I digresss...folks will feel whatever way they feel about it.

Tennessee State currently plays a SWAC and MEAC team annually...ironically, they are playing at Hampton this year for the first time since the 80's. Add Bethune-Cookman and Jackson State to this years football schedule for the Big Blue. ;)

Still, it ain't what you do, its how you do it. Did Hampton drop the ball on this one? Did the MEAC react in a mean-spirited manner? :pOpinions are opinions, facts are facts....

Harris called the fine “a post-facto exit fee” that is not included in the constitution and bylaws.

“While other conferences do have exit fees, and some have exit fees that amount to $250,000 exactly, it’s something the member institutions agree to up front,” he said. “They vote on it. In this case, the MEAC realizes it doesn’t have any exit fee and is now trying to impose one.”

As for HU’s late notification to the conference, Harris said the language of the bylaws is ambiguous.

“The violation we’ve been charged with is failure to notify timely,” he said. “The penalty for that is up to $5,000. In another part of the bylaws, it says the executive committee can levy unspecified and unlimited penalties.

“That’s part of the problem. The MEAC has not done a good job of reviewing and updating its constitution and bylaws over the years.”

Hampton, nor me, has no reason to make up this "tom foolery."

The executive committee, Dennis Thomas and Dr. Harvey all should've sat down in December and negotiated all of this. Now, it's going to end up in court.

I saw that and what he leaves out in that argument is that when a conference member wins a conference championship they are the MEAC representative; so whoever wins the conference championships goes to the NCAA tournament so the conference was going to get those "millions" in regardless.
