It's multiple things going on:
1. Dennis Sharpe vs. The Big South
2. Hampton vs. The MEAC
The Big South needs to buffer themselves form the losses of Liberty and Presbyterian. Although they have Hampton, Campbell and North Alabama in the fold, they want to get up to 9 teams to also keep everyone in a compacted round robin and to buffer from likely losses of Monmouth (PL or back to NEC), and Kennesaw State (FBS aspirations).
What is also hurting the MEAC is the fact they don't have a structure in place for a buyout fee and proper timetable to prevent the Big South from pushing a MEAC school from dropping it's final conference schedule to accommodate teams that lost a game from Presbyterian.

How is this petty? This is the consequence when a school decides to up and leave a conference.

It's a "negotiated fee" between the Co-CEO's and the leaving school. So on one end, you have the Big South Pressuring Hampton to leave asap, and you have a few Co-CEO's pushing Dr. Harvey to pay way more than he wants to.
Don't be surprised to see this 3-way fight land in court this Spring.

They want to be the East Coast Tennessee State being a HBCU only when it benefits them (SHC, etc.). They want to jump on the first thing smoking out of the MEAC without thinking or caring about the consequences (how other MEAC teams would be affected by this). And of course (some of) those folks on the other board don't see a problem with it because they wish their school could do it as well.
That's exactly what they did. I'm glad FAMU dropped em off the schedule and wish most of the other schools would do the same. Let them enjoy them home games with North Alabama and Kennesaw with 3-4K people in the stands

While true, Hampton will always have a relationship with A&T and Howard. BTW: A&T ain't in this fight. If the Co-CEO meeting minutes ever become public, I wouldn't be surprised to see Chancellor Martin abstaining from the conversation.

It's more of the Big South pushing them to do this because of Presbyterian dropping their scholarships and games. A few Big South members need Hampton to fill Presby's role.

Hampton has never been worried about fans. You ever been to that stadium? On their website, they say it holds, 17K and I laugh every time. It has 11 rows of bleachers. YES 11. I personally counted. It might hold 8 K on a good day and they never fill it up.

It was their right and their choice to leave. This looks like hate to me... I would say jealousy but I need to investigate this new conference overall a lil bit more... lol Im sure they were counting on games vs Howard and Norfolk State.

Indeed, it was Hampton's right and choice to leave to the conference. But how is it "hate"? Why should Hampton be allowed the benefit of playing a football schedule against a conference it IMMEDIATELY wants no part of?

They should play the schedule to not throw wrenches into the plans of the other members remaining. Its why you have some Presidents trying to bump up Hampton's exit fee; to compensate for lost game revenue. Now you have schools scrambling to find opponents as most teams have their schedules filled in October and November. This is also inconvenient for Hampton as they now have to fill out a 7-8 game schedule and their post-season hopes are dashed.
Dr. Harvey was hoping to compete for one final shot for the Celebration Bowl.
