Is it to late to save this generation of black males?


This thread hits too close to home for me. I had, past tense, an outreach program in place and stopped it last fall due to far too many disrespectful disposable trash numbskulls who impolitely interjected themselves into my program. I was into yr #26 and the bottom fell out when dummies brought guns plural into the damned church gym wanting to shoot up the place & earlier a few weeks prior, disposable trash thugs originating from seattle et al areas entered and intentionally caused injuries to 3 differing youth in one week, whose parents grew up with me. I was hurt and embarrassed visiting their sons in the hospitals on the nights of their internal injuries :( . The parents entrusted me to care for their kids (HSers). smh

While in the metroplex, I never had this type of problem. I return to the bordering country rural suburbia of the home area and these dumb thug mf'ers aren't interested in employment or academic pursuit. I put my name, my carte blanche in the area, on the line w/ my corporate backing me financially, other local businesses backing, & backing by several churches on the line and it was all thrown away when I had to diall 911 for the very first and last time ever while in the middle of the outreach as a professor from LSCollege was speaking to youth regarding admissions/financial support into the community college. F'ing guns, inside the church gym, around various HS kids, w/ white clergy present observing/taking notes...

I'm done. Behind the gates of the segregated gated community I go. Locally, I've attended 4 differing funerals of early 20 yr olds since I stopped the outreach program locally. Oddly, those same 4 were attendees in my program and I spoke with them like I spoke to others, actually, moreso them because they were all early 20s and headed nowhere fast as I tried to get them employed locally. smh The program in the metroplex was taken over by a young man who was one of my first, now is a software devl/married/has 2 kids, and is doing what I asked all of them to do ", reach back and help others from your area as you ascend." The city kids are outpacing these dumbassed country suburban kids. It's a f'ing shame when the county DA, your friend since childhood, has to speak w/ you regarding AADW of youth smh.

Below is a 60 Minutes CBS documentary link about the natural social of elephants. In short, the documentary is about how they decided reduce the elephant population in a particular part of Africa that couldn't support the large number of elephants anymore. In doing so, they killed the older elephants and relocate the younger elephants to another part of Africa. The relocated younger elephants grew up as problematic teenagers that became killer elephants. They would kill rhinos just because they could. So in order to make the teenage elephants to behave better, they actually transplanted a few older male elephant into the herd. It's not easy task transporting large wild adult bull elephants.

I watched that a while back. I am an avid nature lover and especially "wildlife". Animals...not humans. It was interesting that without the example and supervision of mature male elephants the young bulls ran wild. The females or matriarchs could not control the young fellows.

More of this is needed from our Black fraternities. This was started by my DP (Ricky Lewis) in my home chapter (Tau Tau Chapter) in California. I love seeing much older Black men shaking hands with young Black boys, which is something you rarely see these days. The Brothers realizes that they have to involve the mothers of the young Black boys to have any success in the program. I just hope that any social interaction between my fraternity brothers and the mothers of the young Black boys doesn't derail the program. More videos can be found on Youtube.

When it comes to NATURE, humans and animals are not that much different. The big difference is that the human brain has the ability to make decisions that sometimes do not agree with nature, whereas an animal brain cannot. Animals primarily work strictly off of nature instincts. This is why in religion, humans are considered to have a SOUL and animals do not. IMO, in the early stages of human development, the human brain hasn't fully developed. Therefore, a lot of decisions made by young people come straight from their natural instincts. For example, these young brothers who play professional sports thinking that they can impregnate as many women they can without any consequences. Tiger Woods and Mike Tyson are prime examples when young men no longer have a true father figure in their young lucrative careers.

I am stolid proof of what poor choices bring (mother of 2 enfants by 2 differing males by age 17). Sad. Sad. Sad. And it's too bad the children, me and my sisters, had to suffer because of piss poor choices. 3 differing fathers by age 18. Sad. Sad. Sad. smh

Get involved. I'm part of two community service organizations that allow me to mentor young black men from disadvantaged backgrounds. Help as many as you can. But there's so much negative and harmful images of black men out there ... the music, movies, news, absentee fathers, noticeable lack of black men walking across the stage at graduating .... it's no surprise so many of our young black men "subconsciously" chose to take the wrong route.

In my city, black men are normally on the news for murders as well. It's makes me sick but I understand the root cause of it and it's essentially white supremacy and so many of our people are too weak to combat it.
 
If black males can't be saved, then it would mean previous generations have failed them. Are all going to be saved? Nope. It's unrealistic. But we can't lose sight of the many victories gained in this process. And there are a lot of them.

We have to address poverty and systemic inequities at every level of our society, as someone alluded to earlier. Not just to save black males, but to save us all.

I remember when my wife and I started dating...her female cousin told her "Girl he got a nice truck you need to have a baby for him because he got some money."

My wife looked at her like she was crazy. Of course though this came from a girl who had her child at 16 and is now 23 and looks like a old ho in her 50s.
 
I agree with CT. It starts with the men. I coached two male basketball teams during the summers in high school and my freshmen and sophomore years of college, so I had the opportunity to mentor a number of guys from my hometown. While I had some success I eventually always passed them off to a guy friend of mine that I know would be a good role model for them. I can teach young men some things like the importance of education, dreaming beyond their current situation, etc., but I can't teach them how to become a man. So I am glad to see some of you guys are mentoring with different orgs/have your own programs. It is needed in every community across America. And as frustrated as you old heads are, don't stop. A lot of these kids already feel like we have given up on them, but we can't. Cee to answer your original question, first, we need more men doing what many of you guys are doing/have done. When I was working in Ft Worth, I volunteered with an org that focused mostly on foster care children that were a few years from transitioning out. When my husband and I went to meet with the volunteer coordinator (who was a sister) for the mentor match interview, she was so grateful because most of the kids were black and brown, and all but one of the volunteers were older white women. While she was grateful for them, the kids didn't always connect. She was searching for black men so the guys in the program could see and get to know professional men handling their business. Honestly it was tough work, cause those kids had been through a lot, but they need you guys. Secondly, we have to go to them. The kids who need to be nurtured and guided the most aren't coming to the Boys and Girls Club to find a mentor. Yes and I already know some of them won't change their mindset. Someone else already said we can't save them all, but we have to find ways to go to them in order to give them our pitch on why we care enough about them and want to see them choose a better path. For example, when I lived in Hillsboro a few years back (aka small town USA), a few of the black churches marched collectively through the streets of some well known drug areas. All of the pastors and brothers marched in front of us. Whenever they would see some of the young guys on their corners, a few of the men would veer off and talk to the kids about the life they currently had and the life they could have. Some of them listened some of them wouldn't. But as a community, we saved a few young men that day by going to them. It won't work everywhere, but that was a powerful sight and experience. We just need to figure out other ways to go to these kids and sow some seeds that hopefully one day will take root.

Prime example on how the system keep Black fathers from having a say in their children lives until it is too late. I'm sure once the young man turns 18 y/o, the system will expect him to raise that the baby he had with his White teacher when he was a minor. Any good lawyer should be all over this by suing the school system, the police department, and the system that allowed the teacher custody of his son. Just imagine how they treat Black men on subtle issues involving their kids, because nothing was subtle about this relationship and the father came straight out and told the police department and the school that the teacher and his son were having an inappropriate relationship. Basically telling them his minor son was having sex with his teacher, but they claimed that they didn't have enough evidence. I guess it takes a baby for them to have enough evidence.

True, but at some point we gotta be real some of young black males got some serious issues. Killing each other like flies has to be addressed. How long will we call folks who seriously want to address this problem and would like to see our community progress sell outs for trying?

What I mean blaming both males and females I mean this: Black men have to learn to stop trying to fuck everything that moves; meanwhile black women need to learn to stop fucking everything that moves. Black men need to take responsibility for their children; simultaneously black women to learn that it takes a man to be there to raise a man.

We are so busy blaming one another instead of looking at the bigger picture. There are black who want so badly to be in their child's life but the mothers make it so difficult. So much so that the man does not want the headache from the woman. There are black women who want the father to be in the child's life but the man is off bullshitting someplace.

In short we have to stop shifting the blame and take the blame then determine a proper manner to react.

I agree that Black men and women should stop screwing and procreating with everything that moves, but when children are born from such relationships, the so-called child welfare system makes things worse instead of better. IMO, most child welfare systems are just another place for someone to collect a check without providing any real solutions for the different problems that are encountered. No one should be able to use their children and the child welfare system to express their bitterness. The mother in the video below should have lost all custody of her twin sons.
