Is it the SWAC fault a team is not playing in the FCS Playoffs?

the fact is your snubbed by basic conference games as if the committee says conference strength is a factor.what can you do if 9 games will hurt you before a down is played? The MVC to them is stronger so you get 3 to 4 conference losses before your eliminated but other leagues are down just because of historical reasons

Um. ... and when has it not ever been?

And???? We all know your school was a chartered member, but once the conference move to the next level, somehow your school was graciously given a pass after the TAMU Board and the alumni decided not to fund athletics for several years. To be honest, if it was any other conference, y'all would have been booted clean out, but somehow the SWAC lowered their standards in order for y'all to stay. The NCAA should have removed y'all as a sanctioned school to play sports, but somehow they let y'all stay to continue the embarrassment, which is probably why they rank the SWAC conference right at the bottom.

Here's your history lesso about those who started and why they left.

History
In 1920, athletic officials from six Texas HBCUs — C.H. Fuller of Bishop College, Red Randolph and C.H. Patterson of Paul Quinn College, E.G. Evans, H.J. Evans and H.J. Starns of Prairie View A&M, D.C. Fuller of Texas College and G. Whitte Jordan of Wiley College — met in Houston, Texas, to discuss common interests. At this meeting, they agreed to form a new league, the SWAC.

Rapid growth in enrollment of the state-supported schools made it difficult for the church-supported schools to finance their athletics programs and one by one they fell victim to the growing prowess of the state-supported colleges.

Paul Quinn became the first of the original members to withdraw from the league in 1929. Bishop withdrew from the conference in 1956 and Huston-Tillotson (formerly Samuel Huston) in 1959. The enter-exit cycle continued in 1961 when Texas College withdrew.

EXACTLY! !!!

Coming in here as if being a chartered member gives them some special dispensation or something. That's their damn problem now.

They are so accustom to getting a pass for everything. Looking for a free hand out into the playoffs is second nature to them.

Daaam! This hurt my feelings and I have nothing to do with PeeWee. Lmao.

Now this is some NCAA history for you. It was all over the news worldwide when this happened.

Kenn, I'll stay nice on these trolls since I went rogue on them idiots in the other thread that ended up being heavily edited.

They are just like Clarence Thomas. Give them a free pass to come up in the conference and now they want everyone to think they have always been world beaters.

Well here's the answer as to how they are slected. I found it finally myself since everyone seems to be an expert but no one had the answer.

There is no mention of any rating system SRS, TBS, or CBS for that matter. So clearly that argument is bogus.

(STATS) - He would say it didn't change when the FCS playoffs expanded by four teams in 2010 or by another four two years ago, and that it won't change this weekend even though one of the 24 spots will go to an additional at-large selection.

An athletic director himself, Mark Wilson, the chair of the selection committee, knows how passionate people are about their football programs, and he expects there will be a team, maybe more than one, that comes away from Sunday's announcement of the playoff field heavily disappointed over not being included among the 24 teams.

If Wilson had the chance to talk to any of them - presumably the football coach or athletic director - he says he would assure that person how the system in place, with representatives from all 10 conferences which send their champions through automatic bids, delivers the best 14 at-large selections to fill out the field (it's gained an at-large bid with the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference relinquishing its automatic bid).

Wilson, Tennessee Tech's AD since 2004, is part of the selection process for the fourth straight year, this time in the leading capacity. In addition, the selection committee consists of athletic directors Chuck Burch (Gardner-Webb), Troy Dannen (Northern Iowa), Brian Hutchinson (Morehead State), Richard Johnson (Wofford), Nathan Pine (Holy Cross), Marty Scarano (New Hampshire), Paul Schlickmann (Central Connecticut State), Dr. Brad Teague (Central Arkansas) and Jeff Tingey (Idaho State).

With the committee set to meet in Indianapolis to select the 2015 field - the announcement of the pairings will come in an ESPNU selection show Sunday at 11 a.m. ET - Wilson discussed the season-long process with STATS.

STATS: Can you provide an overall description of the selection process?

MW: Well, it's a very intense process. The members of the NCAA football committee have been talking about teams and using our regional committees to analyze work as well as the national committee has been all season long. And as we get into the selection process, we'll follow the established policies and procedures as we work through to determine the 14 at-large selections.

STATS: From past experience, what would you say is the most difficult aspect of the selection process?

MW: The most difficult is to be able to draw correlations between teams because in FCS typically we have three nonconference opponents, and many of us play Bowl Subdivision opponents. So (it's difficult) to draw those correlations between leagues to determine the very best teams to put into the playoffs.

STATS: How much decision making continues into Sunday morning or does that not happen?

MW: We hope there's no decision making that continues into Sunday morning. Our goal is to do everything on Saturday night. … We do sleep on it overnight, and when we come back on Sunday morning, we ask each committee member to confirm the belief that we absolutely think we have it right.

STATS: If you have, say, four or five teams for the final at-large bid or two, do you eliminate them one at a time until you have what you're looking for?

MW: The NCAA utilizes a computerized voting process, so every member of the committee will vote and use that data to help us formulate our decisions. Of course, as we get into those last four or five, we do only put a team or two in at a time depending on the number of spots that are available in the field. So early on, the number of teams that go (are greater), but as less spots become available, then you do only put one team in at a time.

STATS: Will MEAC teams be considered for an at-large bid considering their champion will play in the Celebration Bowl and not in the playoffs this year?

MW: Yes, sir, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference is eligible for at-large selection, and we've been receiving information on their teams over the course of the year. We will use that information as we head into the selections.

No worries. Great first season Coach Simmons! With the exception of Grambling, we've beaten everyone in the SWAC and that's a great start for a young team and staff. We definitely have ALOT to build on for next season and beyond. Keep looking forward PV; The FUTURE is bright on the Hill!

Not trying to speak for tbf, but I believe the point is - and I happen to agree with him, is that the committee will use the strength of schedule argument knowing what the actual schedule is BEFORE the games are even played. If you play 9 games against conference opponents, how can you use only 2 non conference games to determine SOS, while at the same time you essentially give a school like Western Ill, "credit" for finishing in 5th place just because of the committee's perception of how strong the conference is.

SOS changes during the season based on how the team's opponents do against OOC opponents. Had SU, JSU, GSU, AAMU, etc actually won some non-conference games against NCAA opponents, PV's SOS would have been higher without any changes to the schedule.

If you haven't noticed Kenn, everytime there is even talk of SWAC Expansion of more teams or getting into the FCS Playoffs, etc. guess which Alums come out the bushes.

Every competitor should want compete against other OOC FCS Opponents.

But this certain SWAC School wants to keep their "status quo".

Dude you do realize Kenn is a Grambling alum. You always point the fingers at SU. We don't give a fugg about other schools wanting to go to the playoffs. Never have. But if you think GRAMBLING Alums agree with you to move the BC from Thanksgiving weekend then I got some swamp land to sell you. Stop making this about SU alums.

Tell your SCHOOL and PRESIDENT to vote SU and Gram out the conference and yall go get auto bids for the playoffs. Sheesh.

And to all the folks mad about PV not getting an invite. We all saw this coming. No matter even if it was JSU or PV or whomever. Them FCS mofos are PISSED off that their better teams are bolting to FBS and pissed off that DISNEY/ESPN approached the SWAC and MEAC about the Bowl game which is financially better than the playoffs with more exposure. So do you really think them mofos were going to let a SWAC or MEAC school in after that?

Once you ain't ranked in the top 20 at least. You should know the odds of you getting an at large bid is null and void. That's not to put down PV who had a great year. But when the conference has not performed out of conference EVER and not won a playoff game EVER, and we formulated our own SCG in 99 and basically now got the MEAC to say hell yeah lets do this Celebration Bowl with ESPN sponsoring. WTF did people expect? You think that committee was going to feel like we need to invite a MEAC or SWAC non champion at large over the schools they think are loyal to FCS and that pimped out playoff system they have? Of course not.

If anything more and more of the power FCS schools are going to bolt and that playoffs is going to be defunct in a few years. All of sudden you going to hear about some FCS bowl game crap. Watch what I tell ya.

I will give you an award for this. I think you are right on. The FCS playoffs will be defunct and you will start seeing FCS bowl matchups materialize. Honestly, I think the Celebration bowl is great for both conferences.

We (HBCU Sports) spoke with Wilson directly. We already had answers. And Wilson flat out lied in saying, "No matter what conference they’re from, they’re looked at the same".

He didn't lie. You just took that quote to mean they ignored quality wins and strength of schedule (which were stated as factors in the previous paragraph).

Factors such as quality wins and strength of schedule will be taken into account in determining the 14 at-large teams that will join the 10 automatic qualifiers in the field.

The poll has no meaning as its based on how many people are voting from your area

its like the bcs as the committee's personal vote count

The crazy part we clamor about other teams stepping it up and someone else did but then you get more pushback like it's not supposed to happen once the primary reason is because the other teams didn't do their part

PV deserved a Playoff Spot. End of Story. Maybe teams like PV and Alcorn should just aim for 100 next year in scoring against every SWAC Opponent to get the FCS Committee's attention.

But we all know black folks get their feelings hurt when the score is ran up.

The SWAC Conference is a good Conference. It just sorry to some because the old "status quo" is getting obliterated.

The Celebration Bowl was created to get in front of the oncoming FCS bowl matchups. They know what's coming. The rest of these ham hock eating jokers can't see the forest for the trees though.

The problem with that argument Kenn is that they didn't make the SWAC go to a nine game mandate and that this has always been their way of doing things. Even before the nine game mandate.

So to argue that they know what the schedule is before hand isn't really a valid point against them. Especially when before the mandate we consistently got at large bids when we qualified for one .

The real gripe IMO which everyone keep over looking. Is questioning why they moved the games back when in the early years you had teams going after thanksgiving.

They once used the excuse about being concern with students missing class or not being able to go home for the holidays. But then mother nature force them into showing that wasn't really the case.

Now with the FBS having so many bowl games along with the playoffs going into the holidays. They can't use that argument anymore.

It is my OPINION that he lied. Your argument is about PV not getting in. That is not my argument. My argument is about the entire PROCESS related to both the MEAC and SWAC. BCU faced Miami (a FBS school), Grambling (an FCS school ranked in the top 25) and Lane. They suffered a loss to A&T who is also a top 25 FCS program. How much more quality does a school need, man? Can anyone in here actually, in good faith, argue that BCU didn't deserve an at-large bid? Really???

Again, just because a process is what it is, that doesn't mean it can't be changed. Now, I will be the first to admit that a lot of this is likely do the fact that we (SWAC and MEAC) probably don't have one damn person on that selection committee to lobby on our behalf. But that is another argument. However, the NCAA (for all that it supposedly represents) has an obligation to operate with a sense of fairness. And to not have ONE HBCU selected out of 14 at-large bids is criminal.

And those bowl games are going to take playoff format just like the FBS schools.
